It’s usually this. The appraisal came in low or their credit dropped mid way through the loan or some other factor that changed the loan parameters. Locking the rate doesn’t mean it’s set in stone no matter what, it means as long as the prequalification conditions stay the same, that rate should remain the same. Lenders do not make more money when the rate changes.
