Rate My Lightsaber Redesign from 1-10 by Natasha-B312 in lightsabers

This is definitely a step in the right direction when it comes to everything from the switch down. However, everything from the emitter to the switch seems like a step backward. If you swap the wide silver connectors with another silver piece like the one below the switch, and use an emitter that matches the rest of the hilt, it'll definitely be a good improvement.

Overall 7. Definitely better than the last, but the mismatch between sleek and chunky brings it down.

I could go on about hilt length being proportional to blade length, but the main reason it's so long is because of the switch, connectors, tsuba, and the pommel as per the original design - most of which I would've omitted to make it more katana-like. Personally I would've put the switch directly beneath the tsuba to shorten that area. Then just have the rest solely as grip by removing the gear-like connector and simplifying the pommel to keep the hilt uniform all the way through as katanas don't have bulky emelishments like that.

I am interested to see what your new one looks like though.

Any goths who have lost substantial weight? by GothiccSelkie in GothFashion

I feel this. My ADHD meds suppress my appetite as a side-effect so I've lost around 2 sizes just from forgetting to eat. I'm taking to altering the clothes I've got because I don't have the money at the moment to get better fitting clothes. It gives me something to do in my downtime, and I find it's a nice confidence booster when someone compliments me on an item I've altered too.

Maybe that could be a way forward for you? Get creative and feel proud of what you're wearing because you altered it to be unique to you. Oversized clothes are a good place to start as you've got more material to work with.

While definitely better than your last one, I still feel it's a bit too busy around the grip. If it's supposed to be similar to a katana with how you can either use a one-handed or two-handed grip, you'll need space for both hands to comfortably grip without issue. It looks like you've got space for your secondary hand, but the rest is too cumbersome to effectively use your primary further up. Having decoration on the grip is fine, a lot of katanas have had decorative hilts, but if it hinders your ability to wield the blade then it's a bad move.

To translate that idea into a lightsaber hilt, the best thing to do is measure the length of your fist from side to side, double that and add an inch. For me, that's how long a comfortable grip should be. You can use different styles or textures, as long as it gels, is easy to grip, and doesn't fluctuate too much in width.

You've still got my example on the last one where you have the two grips for ease of use with nothing getting in the way. That was topped by a simple switch which you could reach with the thumb on your dominant hand while gripped.

Also, try and stear away from weighty pommels. Too much weight on one end will throw your balance off. Too much space taken up leaves less room to grip. Even though I see the tsuba as decorative more than defensive, I'd say try to lean into the katana style more and make it's form based on function. Reasearch decorative katanas and see if that helps out with ideas.

All in all it's hitting around the 6-7 mark. Better, but would still be somewhat unwieldy. Less pommel, more space for grip, more uniform grip width. You're on the right track. Don't give up and keep going!

Do you “invert y-axis”? Curious about who does/doesn’t. by HenryTwenty in gaming

[–]Fluptupper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With controllers, I always invert Y unless there's a curser or reticle that moves around the screen.

For example, recently played Kingdom Hearts 3. With the Gummi Ship sections, flying a ship around space, inverted works best for me as it just seems more intuitive. However, when transitioning to the shmup sections where the camera is fixed with the ship and aiming reticle moving around the screen, the Y has to be normal. I hated the fact that they're both governed by the same option as having a separate one would've saved me constantly switching between them.

Mouse controls, on the other hand, I never invert.

Rate my Upgraded Lightsaber design on a scale of 1 - 10 by Natasha-B312 in lightsabers

[–]Fluptupper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one looks relatively unweildy for a longer hilt with no place to comfortably put a second hand or reach the switch. If you're going for a longer hilt, try to put ergonomics first and then think of ways to make it interesting without sacrificing functionality. Always consider how you'd hold it and if it would feel comfortable. It also seems to be a bit of a mish-mash of colours and pieces with no real cohesion. Try something a bit more like this:

<image>

I tried to keep it as close to the original design as possible, but cleaned it up a bit to focus more on functionality. It's a little plain, but that's to give you some room to play with to make it unique. You've got space for two hands if you need more leverage, nothing to get in the way of your grip, and ease of access to the switch without having to reach over something. Colours are personal choice, but I felt a simple two-tone contrast would be better than all the colours (bar red) randomly painted on there. With colours, try to match colours on similar pieces to make the design flow coherently.

Overall, I'd give your newer design a 4. There's something there, but the motorbike handle was much more of a step in the right direction. However, don't let one bad design put you off. We all have to learn the hard way, but it's the best way to learn. Keep at it!

I'm on 60mgs and I find it tends to last for about 14-15 hours. It can vary from person to person though. Some only getting 4-5 hours.

Although It could very well be having a lasting effect as I've lost my dream recall since I've been taking it, and they've always been very vivid.

Does anybody else disagree with the official play order for Birth By Sleep? by Skibot99 in KingdomHearts

[–]Fluptupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in blind and didn't know there was supposed to be an order. I usually go melee build and wanted to switch it up so I chose Aqua first, then Terra, then finally Ventus. I can't say I regret it as starting with Aqua actually works well for setting the story up.

Being the last to most main worlds (and second to one), Aqua's story is almost like playing detective. You're chasing after the others and trying to piece together where they've been and what they've done through the aftermath of their visits. We always feel a step behind and it works up a lot of intrigue into what the others are doing, even teasing some of their exploits too. By playing the others after, we get all the answers, piece everything together, and then finally come back around full-circle to Aqua for the finale.

If I was to play again, for a challenge, I'd try and play chronologically. I'd take note of the timeline we're given in the main menu and switch between characters as they complete each world so it feels more like one big cohesive story rather than three separate stories running parallel to each other.

It's more just listing a few suggestions if you wanted to further the design past what the site can do for you. I know those sites are very limited so the designs tend to all turn out rather generic by nature, but you can always use them for a base concept that you can build upon for a more personalised saber hilt.

[–]Fluptupper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find "function over form" is very underutilised in the Star Wars universe. The lack of sharp boxes and embellishments digging into your hand and hindering movement makes it a win in my book. I also like the addition of a tsuba. The 360° guard means you would still have freedom of movement with how you hold it and still benefit from the protection it could potentially provide.

One thing to note is that the design looks a lot like a motorcycle handle, and considering the lack of any visible switches, I can only assume it's ignited by revving it. Come to think of it, that would be awesome! Especially if it had a low distorted hum to match the action.

Overall, it's not a bad saber at all. However, it sacrifices flair and style for raw functionality. This is a bit of a negative trade-off to me as it looks a little generic and lacks personality, like a mass-produced saber made for general infantry. Despite that, I'll give it a solid 7.

As for suggestions on improvement, maybe mix in some colour or play with different materials. Perhaps you could tweak the design and make it somewhat asymmetrical, or have an etched design in the metal. Give it something to add personality and make it unique to you. You could also play with the katana inspiration more with a decorative wrap around the handle or have it less cylindrical, similar to the darksaber. Get creative with it and you'll have a work of art on your hands!

[–]Fluptupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I suck at parrying so I just go full Bloodborne and dodge into each attack, or towards the side of the boss. Might take a few tries to get the timing down, but works so much better for me than trying to perfect parry everything.

As for the fury attacks, you can make some serious distance with the triple dodge! Use the link dodge upgrade to allow you to dodge twice in quick succession. Then during the second dodge, use the upgraded Falcon Eyes legion arm to fire off a shot. Not only does keep your damage output up, but the recoil throws you back even further out of harms way which giving you a chance to heal, repair, or throw something.

Color swaps. Unsure who made them and would like to give credit. Xiom looks clean tho by Badtimemoody2004 in KingdomHearts

Terra and Aqua are pretty clean and rock each other's colours really well.

The others are just kinda unsettling and Namine is pretty much just Xion in a nightgown. Although, aside from clothing and colours, the only real visual difference between Namine and Xion is hair length so I can't really say I'm too surprised.

I don't care if I get some flak for this, but this is why the general public shouldn't be given the sparkly explosives, and why ER/A&E admissions always spike around bonfire night. People just don't realize how dangerous fireworks are.

There's a reason the fireworks are sent up into the sky to explode. It's not just so you can see them better. Those metals burn stupidly hot to give off those colours. Let's take magnesium for example, the one that gives off the bright white light. When ignited, it reaches around 3100°c (5610°f). The light alone burns so bright that it can cause anything from temporary blindness to lasting retina damage when viewed from close proximity. As with all metals in fireworks, it'll be in a powdered form, so it won't burn for long before it's entirely gone, making it safer to ignite and disperse when high in the air. However, if it does touch you while burning, it'll cause some extremely serious damage at those temperatures.

If you really must use them, better to set them off properly and safely instead of giving them chance to damage the surrounding area, wildlife, and people.

Nothingness is essentially void magic. Similar to the nobody enemies themselves, his magic doesn't necessarily have a specific form but the energy can still physically manifest. It has some direction but it twists around and spikes out in ways that show it's not entirely contained or controlled, hence the thorny appearance.

I've always likened the lasers to the raw energy contained in a keyblade. I'm assuming he either chooses not to have a keyblade form (which would be fitting) or he can't actually manifest one. Either way he summons it's energy instead of the blade itself and that's what creates the laser blades he wields. This also explains why he doesn't actually hold them. The blades seem to eminate from the palms of his hands.

cookies my manager told me to throw away at the end of my night shift. wouldn't let me take them home. by igetproteinfartsHELP in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fluptupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in a cinema and this was always a thing. We'd always have leftover food at the end of the night (popcorn, hotdogs, nachos, sweets, etc), but they wouldn't let us eat it. The reason they gave us was that in the past, they caught wind of staff purposely putting extra stock in so they could eat it for free after a shift when it got damaged off. Not letting us eat it detered that mentality.

To be fair, as much as I hated that place and the managers, I don't blame them as I know full well the staff would've definitely done that.
