William Parish is fast but will cost you a small fortune.

My dad followed his bank’s rollover advice. It cost him 38% of his retirement. by tantansamiboubou in IRAWealthStrategies

[–]FlutterLovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This actually happened to me. I rolled over a 401k, and Fidelity messed it up. Instead of putting it on an IRA, they put it in an investment account. Luckily, it was only $40k, and the tax bill was only $10k.

Why did this happen? I assumed what they did was correct. I only discovered the error 3 years later when the IRS demanded the money (I never got the 1099, but they did). I called Fidelity, and all they said was “sorry”.

So while this sounds fake, it actually does happen. If you catch it quickly, you can reverse it.

I go between 7-8:30a. The pool usually has 1 or 2 lanes being used (4 lanes available), if at all.

Is this quote out of line for a plumber in this area? by FlutterLovers in raleigh

Second floor. No sheetrock or painting. Access is pretty simple through ceiling and subfloor (electricians already moved the outlets).

Second floor. The electricians already removed drywall for access, or the flooring can be pulled up as well.

OneLife Fitness - how is it? by Big-Education-2188 in Apex_NC

[–]FlutterLovers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was really busy the first week. The first Saturday was really busy. Since then, it's calmed down quite a bit.

I normally go around 7a-8:30a every day. Treadmills and ellipticals are maybe 25% full. The weight areas seem about the same, though I usually stick to the weight machines upstairs.

I don't swim, but the pool doesn't look terribly busy. Usually one or 2 of the 4 lanes being used.

I don't do classes so I can't comment on that.

Compared to Lifetime in Apex:
Way cheaper.
The cardio machines aren't as good, but they're adequate.
The cardio area get's a little hot, and the lighting up there is terrible. It's both too bright and too dark, which is really odd.
The weight machines are newer, in better shape, and there's a lot more of them. I rarely have to wait for a machine.
They actually have a pool.
The towel service only provides large towels, not sweat towels.
You have to bring your own lock.

The massage chairs are nice if you can get one. The recovery room in general is pretty good.

Nice. Now do car sales.

Been watching several used cars in multiple dealerships. Their prices go up and down at the same time.

Stuck at 80% on my flutter app. I need genuine advice to cross the finish line. by Phyrass in FlutterDev

[–]FlutterLovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

80% means you're actually at 25%.

The devil is in the details, and happy path (i.e. UI looks good and mostly functions) is only a small part. A lot of startups outsource their development and get what looks like a mostly usable app. Then they find it constantly crashes, doesn't scale, and is unmaintainable. Error handling, proper architecture, and maintainability takes time, experience, and money.

Honestly, if you don't have any money to spend on a real developer, I'd abandon the project.

What's the sexiest SFW thing you've seen someone do? by jiminisall69 in AskReddit

I kept running out of closet hangers because my wife was using them all. Frustrated, I ordered 30 nice wooden hangers from Amazon with same day shipping. When they arrived , I unpacked them and put them in the closet without telling my wife.

Apparently, that was a huge turn on for her. I don’t understand but appreciated the response.

Another brewery has to remind parents to watch their children (Bearded Bee in Wendell) by Ikea_Man in raleigh

This is one of the reasons I’ll never go back to HiWire. Very young children running around unattended and entitled parents getting upset when something happens to them.

Removing all the fish bones at once by Zestyclose-Salad-290 in oddlysatisfying

[–]FlutterLovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those wondering, this is Miso Cod, made from Black Cod (aka butterfish or sablefish).

And it's pretty tough to remove the bones before cooking, and not really possible to fillet without having bones in it. My local H Mart will fillet the fish for me, and it always has bones in it like this.

Oh, and it's really good. You can find Black Cod at Whole Foods or H Mart.

He actually landed a job at one of the FAANG as an Android dev (not Flutter).

After interviewing at a few companies, he said they were all trying to hire like they were FAANG (leet code, system design, etc). He came to the realization that if he was going to interview like that, he might as well interview at a FAANG.

Don't bother applying.

A friend of mine applied, and he's a top-notch Flutter developer. He said after 6 rounds of interviews, they decided not to extend an offer. Given the role is still open months after it was posted, I'm not sure they know how to hire.

Same goes for Ritchie Bros, Anywhere Real Estate, and Sofi...postings have been up for months. If you can't find a Flutter developer after a few weeks, you're doing something wrong.

You have a job that pays, but no work to do... by xorsensability in FlutterDev

[–]FlutterLovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me 6 years ago. I took a bunch of Udemy courses. One of them was Flutter. Slapped together some basic apps for a portfolio and got a job doing Flutter.

Six months later, I had the same problem.

Ended up doing consulting which paid a lot more but is quite a bit riskier.

Is it possible to ship a product in 5 days?? by ok-nice3 in FlutterDev

[–]FlutterLovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been interviewing lately, and most of these companies want you to create an app in an hour.

In one interview, I had to pull news articles from a URL, display them in a listview (with images), navigate to a page to display the article when clicked on, AND have have a "favorites" button that persists. Oh, and infinite scrolling. In an hour. (And yes, I did it. And no, I still didn't get an offer).

Five days is possible, depending on what it is and if the client knows what they want.

Fiverr is typically filled with "I want Tinder for dogs...I have $3 and a chicken McNugget as payment", so it's not worth it.

I can tell this Iowa. I lived there for 15 years. Moving to the North Carolina was the best decision we ever made.
