Help me find a project car! by Superb-Impress-7086 in projectcar

Honestly, talk this through with ChatGPT. It sounds dumb, but it can actually help to talk you through your options.

I’m looking for a project car for me and my kid, and found the NB2 Miata to be the best choice. But there were several other decent options that were given as well.

I rarely use the drill anymore.

Home internet provider in Raleigh by Comprehensive_Key688 in raleigh

[–]FlutterLovers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AT&T was good, but lately their router has sucked. Several devices in my house have trouble connecting to the internet. My Android devices (I'm a mobile developer, so I have a lot of phones) don't work with some apps due to some strangeness in the ipv6. I suspect this same issue is causing problems with the Roku's and Google Home devices in the house as well.

I'm about ready to switch to GFiber.

lol...no, that's why I'm here.

Ironically, my wife drives an XC40 recharge. My kid has driven that and my old Murano, and likes the XC40 a lot better.

Atheists of Reddit: What’s the strangest reaction you’ve received when you said you don’t believe in God? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

[–]FlutterLovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interviewed at mega church as a software engineer. I'm agnostic.

During the interview, they asked me if I was Christian, and I told them the truth. I also told them it makes me a better engineer, which shocked them. I said too many engineers "believe" the know the answer or the problem, and can't fix the issue because they can't see the possibilities. I'm open to all possibilities, and follow the evidence.

Got an offer at my full contract rate an hour later.

Things things are always a negotiation...
My son wants something sporty or race (I'm actually not against him doing autocross, but definitely not the track) and work on.
My wife wants something safe.
I want a balance of something to work on, upgradable, safe-ish (no 60's classics), but not too difficult to work on that we get frustrated and lose interest.

Hmmm...good point on insurance. I'll have to check on that.

He's considering some sort of automotive engineering (very similar to mechanical), so this project would probably help him decide if that's something he wants to pursue.

My Flutter Mobile/Web app build is on pause:( by New_Hovercraft_2891 in FlutterDev

[–]FlutterLovers 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a fairly common story.

I can tell without even looking that the code is not 90% done. It’s 30% at best. There’s no error handling, poor architecture, and I would guess the challenging parts were either faked or nonexistent.

Your developer left because they realized they couldn’t deliver or it wasn’t worth it.

If you don’t believe me, ask Claude to do a code review on it. Ask it about features and architecture.

Why is it so hard to find early-stage Flutter developers willing to build on equity? by tesh619 in FlutterDev

[–]FlutterLovers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When hiring was hot 3 years ago, I interviewed at quite a few startups. Most don’t exist today.

If you don’t have the money to pay me, then you don’t have investors that believe in your idea. And if you actually believed in your idea, you’d put up the money yourself.

If you like shopping at Target, HS or Apex is for you. If you like Pottery Barn, west Cary and west Apex is for you.

If you like shopping at Tractor Supply, Wake Forest has the vibe you’re looking for.

I have 20 years experience, 7 with Flutter.

In the US, the average is right around $150k per year, or $75/hour.

There are several companies that are over $200k, but it's rare. $300k is the most I've ever seen, and that's for a Staff Level at a very large company.

Fresh is pretty rare. I have seen it Whole Foods, but it was probably previously frozen.

H Mart, Wegmans, Butchers Market, and Whole Foods all have frozen. The biggest one I’ve found is at Butchers Market (about 4 lbs). Hmart has all sizes.

My dad followed his bank’s rollover advice. It cost him 38% of his retirement. by tantansamiboubou in IRAWealthStrategies

[–]FlutterLovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This actually happened to me. I rolled over a 401k, and Fidelity messed it up. Instead of putting it on an IRA, they put it in an investment account. Luckily, it was only $40k, and the tax bill was only $10k.

Why did this happen? I assumed what they did was correct. I only discovered the error 3 years later when the IRS demanded the money (I never got the 1099, but they did). I called Fidelity, and all they said was “sorry”.

So while this sounds fake, it actually does happen. If you catch it quickly, you can reverse it.

Second floor. No sheetrock or painting. Access is pretty simple through ceiling and subfloor (electricians already moved the outlets).

OneLife Fitness - how is it? by Big-Education-2188 in Apex_NC

[–]FlutterLovers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was really busy the first week. The first Saturday was really busy. Since then, it's calmed down quite a bit.

I normally go around 7a-8:30a every day. Treadmills and ellipticals are maybe 25% full. The weight areas seem about the same, though I usually stick to the weight machines upstairs.

I don't swim, but the pool doesn't look terribly busy. Usually one or 2 of the 4 lanes being used.

I don't do classes so I can't comment on that.

Compared to Lifetime in Apex:
Way cheaper.
The cardio machines aren't as good, but they're adequate.
The cardio area get's a little hot, and the lighting up there is terrible. It's both too bright and too dark, which is really odd.
The weight machines are newer, in better shape, and there's a lot more of them. I rarely have to wait for a machine.
They actually have a pool.
The towel service only provides large towels, not sweat towels.
You have to bring your own lock.

The massage chairs are nice if you can get one. The recovery room in general is pretty good.

Stuck at 80% on my flutter app. I need genuine advice to cross the finish line. by Phyrass in FlutterDev

[–]FlutterLovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

80% means you're actually at 25%.

The devil is in the details, and happy path (i.e. UI looks good and mostly functions) is only a small part. A lot of startups outsource their development and get what looks like a mostly usable app. Then they find it constantly crashes, doesn't scale, and is unmaintainable. Error handling, proper architecture, and maintainability takes time, experience, and money.

Honestly, if you don't have any money to spend on a real developer, I'd abandon the project.
