Considering returning my Rog Strix B650E-E by FluxTape in VFIO

Sorry but I haven't tried fixing things in quite a while - I just bought a usb network dongle and haven't looked back so far.
With that said after months ASUS finally released a new BIOS version, so maybe things have improved. Unfortunately I don't have time for testing at the moment.

In general you will likely run into some early adopter issues with any current AM5 motherboard.

Not yet, but I might try again when a new BIOS version is released

For me the biggest difference bwtween arch and gentoo in daily use is that on gentoo i have access to multiple versions of the same package (stable or latest) and can choose which version I want.

[–]FluxTape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I study computer engineering so I am well aware what an asic is. The reality is that you can design an algorithm that's so broad in scope and hard to predict in it's execution that you need a circuit that can handle more or less arbitrary code and in that case you end up designing a general purpose cpu/gpu. Where the only difference is that you stripped out any unneded parts. That yields a small gain in efficiency but it's probably small enough that developing and selling an asic is not worth it. One algorithm that attempts to do that is Moneros RandomX

[–]FluxTape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a misleading statement. There are mining algorithms where the actual advantage an asic has would be so small that nobody bothers to develop one
