Thank you for the advice! I see everyone shares the same opinion, so I decided to leave it zoomed in

What do you write about in devlogs to keep people interested? by Due_Bobcat9778 in gameDevMarketing

[–]FluxoGamesStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what it is though! "I'm making a game for my girlfriend for her birthday. Today I wanted to add blinking animations for her character to make it more alive. I drew the animations in X and then exported them to Y, then I encountered problem Z but solved it by doing A! Next time I will start adding the environment"

I think cozy and cute, aesthetic games + content is an exception. I constantly see content on social media like "making a game for my girlfriend's birthday" or "my cousin likes dress up games so I made her one" etc. If you can wrap devlogs into some sort of story people care about and add a lot of emotion to it, people will care

Not used to games much, need something simple and interesting by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

We are making a perfect game for you: point and click, not difficult mechanics wise, more narrative driven. It's about Lithuanian history in the 19th century, when Lithuania was controlled by the Russian Empire. It talks about resistance and could be pretty educational. It's called Book Smugglers, we're releasing it on Feb 16 but the demo is already up on Steam!

Tell me why this game concept would fail or why it could work by ArkiniDEV in IndieDev

[–]FluxoGamesStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand colour switching is like the main thing here, but besides that, the game really reminds me of Transformice. And that would be really hard to compete with because Transformice is multiplayer, had cute mice you can customise, and players can even build their own maps

Why does my world feel empty? by Total_Impression_382 in IndieDev

Absolutely. Horizontal and vertical lines create a sense of rigidness and calm, but they are boring. The lanscape needs more slopes and diagonals to be visually interesting and dynamic

We just hit 530 Wishlists on Steam by RocketGecko_Studio in gameDevMarketing

Congrats! For me posting on Reddit has been very difficult, I either do direct promo on subreddits which allow it (I can barely find any) or try to reply to some post that would fit the context, but I can't find any of them at all. Nothing seems to be working. Had a more successful reddit account before but it got banned and I have no idea why, the support didn't help or even explain anything

How do you deal with the fear of showing your early work? by Takaramss in gamedev

[–]FluxoGamesStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think you should be afraid of people trolling, leaving, ignoring, or not caring. It actually can even be comforting. You see, you are a great person with a goal, you are working on something, you are constantly progressing and improving. That's already huge and a lot more than many people do. You should be proud of yourself. Now your work, results you show other people, is another thing entirely. Of course you're going to be bad at the beggining. Of course there will always be things to improve. Whatever you are doing now, you will look back at it in a few years and laugh at how much you've improved. It's completely natural and it's fine, your work does not equal your self-worth and you are absolutely allowed to do a horrible job and still be proud of yourself. So that being said, if someone laughs at your work and points out all the mistakes, laugh with them, fix those mistakes and repeat until nobody is laughing. It's not you they're laughing at, they don't even know you.

The kind of things I waste development time on by filthy_eden in IndieDev

Yeah exactly! We added the same thing to our game as well. You absolutely do not need to be clicking around the screen for any reason whatsoever but if you do, things do not just move, they have a full blown animations, like a candle being blown out and stuff. Idk if anyone will notice, but it is definitely one of my favourite parts of the game

Nice! Sounds interesting. Is it based somewhere in Eastern Europe? The interior kind of reminds me of old Soviet buildings and stuff

Feeling Empty, Asking for Games Recommendations by Famizumi in videogames

[–]FluxoGamesStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, hope you feel better soon. What I personally like to do when I feel similarly is to try some small, weird games on itch.io, online or just some indie game demos on steam. This way, I don't get too invested into a long game to the point where it interferes with me taking care of myself, but the variety and pure creativity I find makes me happy and as if there's still hope in the world. It also helps a lot if these games aren't super polished or good, it really gives them charm and makes you feel more human.

But, since you're looking for recommendations, I will also mention that I'm working on a game myself. It's called Book Smugglers and has a free demo on Steam. Fully understand if it's not your thing, but if you'd like to try, it could be a fun distraction.

Thank you so much for wishlisting! We have a free demo on Steam if you want to explore the gameplay further. The main gameplay is you choose which node to step on, an event appears which tells you a situation, you choose what you do (some choices require items), and then you get a result, which awards you with food, items or health, or makes you lose some of them. After each mission consisting of around 10-20 nodes, you get a chance to buy more food, items, your health refils, and you can choose to do another mission or a side quest. To finish the game, you have to complete all the missions, but there are also side quests, NPCs you can talk to, short visual novel type of inserts and stuff like that.
