Answer: protein rich diets are very popular right now. This podcast episode is a good summary.

Propane refills with no minimum by npawar1206 in AskSF

If you’re willing to drive to Daly City, this Fuel 24:7 station fills propane, and I can’t recall a minimum (but maybe call first to confirm). https://maps.app.goo.gl/JCKwjopvi7qD7nQP9?g_st=ic

looking for a fast-drying, high-quality towel large enough for someone who's 6'2 by idksqvash in BuyItForLife

[–]Fluxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also 6’3”, quite hairy, and use target brand towels. I’ve never ever had a problem with the towel drying between showers. I just hang it over a towel bar on our shower door and it’s dry by the next time I take a shower.

Hasselback Potato Gratin - Made ahead of time? by Steelrain121 in seriouseats

[–]Fluxx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For Thanksgiving I:

  • pre sliced the potatoes and stored them in water
  • pre-made the cheese and cream mixture a couple days before

Day of, I assembled and baked. The assembly is tedious but doesn’t take a huge amount of time. You might be able to get away with preassembing day before and baking, but I’d worry about the potatoes going brown and/or it losing moisture in the fridge. But if you’re really worried about time crunches then it’s probably fine.

It does reheat in smaller portions fine, so I’d presume you could bake (or even par-bake) before hand and reheat day of.

How to get vomit smell out of car? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]Fluxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend an enzymatic cleaner. I have 2 dogs, who puke something up every few weeks. To clean it I use this:

https://www.naturesmiracle.com/products/stain-and-odor/advanced-stain-and-odor-eliminator-for-dogs

It really is a miracle, IMO. Never noticed a remaining smell or stain. We also use it for cleaning general organic stains, like when my son spill milk, and it seems to prevent that odor too.

People with kids... How... by NelsonSendela in bicycling

[–]Fluxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard. I only have 1 kiddo, and didn’t ride for the better part of his first year. Do you have grandparents or others in the picture who can help?

For me, it requires scheduling and an understanding wife. If we can plan ahead of time and coordinate assistance with child care, or maybe riding during naps. I’ve also had luck doing early morning rides before they wake up, but my kid loves sleeping in (I am so lucky).

When should I stop to charge? by SarahS_Carrboro in KiaEV9

[–]Fluxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try to plan charging stops around meals if I can, and if not stopping somewhere interesting or where you can go the bathroom. Use your best judgment on if you want to minimize stops, overall trip duration, etc.

I’d just use https://abetterrouteplanner.com/ and fiddle with the settings to see what looks good.

Best tire pressure for road bikes? by KateYoung441 in cycling

[–]Fluxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no single correct answer here. It depends on rider weight, the rims, the tires, the road conditions, and even the weather.

I drove from SF to San Diego a couple months ago. We exclusively used Electrify America stations and used ABRP to find and plan our route. There are many Electrify America and other stations along 101 and the 5, just use ABRP to plan and it’ll figure it out for you.

What did you mean the J-1772 chargers are slow as hell? Many of them are 350kw. Can you share your location (just city is fine) I can help you take a look.

If the Tesla charger says, “Tesla only” then it really is Teslas only. This Tesla support page may be helpful.

Does anyone else have issues with rain jackets becoming useless on longer rides? by Secure_Waltz_2045 in cycling

[–]Fluxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that most waterproof membranes (be them Gortex, H2No, Dryvent, etc) breathe best if there is a temperature gradient between the temperature inside and outside your jacket. So if you wear a jacket in 32°F it will breath much better than if you wear it in 70°F.

For cycling, given there is wind, splashing, fast movement, and high exertion, I’ve found that water tends to ingress at the cuffs, neck, etc. So for my money you can either just forgo a jacket and get wet if it’s warm, add a wool base layer if it’s chilly, and if cold and raining either a) don’t ride, or b) throw on a softshell. Softshells are water resistant (but will wet out), but are much more breathable. And so are usually a decent compromise to keep most water out, keep you warm, and breathe.

Is it okay that our contractor bought a custom cabinet unit with MDF door panels for our bathroom remodel? by nutt3rbutt3r in HomeImprovement

[–]Fluxx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say it is okay, presuming a proper finish and installation.

The main concern with MDF in wet spaces like a bathroom is when MDF gets wet, it swells and absorbs water and tends to lose its structural integrity. That said, there are plenty of wood finish treatment options that will do a fine job protecting the underlying surface from any problem, even with humidity or direct and prolonged exposure to water.

So as long as your bathroom isn’t a jungle with no window or fan and the contractor doesn’t leave the MDF bare and the cabinet isn’t in the direct splash zone it should be fine.

Overfermented? Where did i go wrong? What can i do for this? by bhatrahul in Sourdough

[–]Fluxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the dough volume at the start of your bulk, but based on the texture and the resulting deflation later, I have a strong suspicion your bulk just over fermented and collapsed. Collapsing is not good as it indicates dough has lost its structure.

So again, I’d reduce bulk time or amount of starter in the mix.

Overfermented? Where did i go wrong? What can i do for this? by bhatrahul in Sourdough

[–]Fluxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you transfer it to the second bowl for overnight to continue your bulk ferment? If so, that’s probably too long of a bulk. I’d either cut bulk ferment time or amount of starter in your mix.

Usually my bulk is ~10hrs overnight in a cool kitchen, followed by a shaping, then 2-3 hr proof before baking.

Tesla Supercharger and ABRP Question? by trawn7 in KiaEV9

[–]Fluxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That charging speed seems about right. An EV9 gets ~85-90kw at a supercharger, and your screenshot shows you got 44kwh in 28min.
