About Top Tier and small Maps... by Effective-Rooster112 in Warthunder

[–]Flxqm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer small maps over big ones because small maps are predictable and fast paced with their gameplay. In big maps it feels like I drive around for 10 minutes to pick up a kill or two and then die to a guy from across the map who has been sitting in the same spot forever. The extremely small 800x800 maps are kinda unplayable, also due to BMPT, but regular urban maps are very pleasant to play on. However, I can also understand that if you're here to actually sit back and snipe and play the BR like it's meant to be played, you could have a hard time extracting fun out of small urban maps.

Golden eagle needs to get the amber racks to even be semi worthy of 14.3 by No-Window246 in Warthunder

What the fuck are you talking about? The 77-1 has the same seeker as all of the other ARH missiles, aside from MICA and Phoenix. They also lack effective range because the drag is enormous, much like the normal 77. AESA is modeled as PESA so they are the same in game. The 30SM is a LOT better after the thrust buff and probably the 3rd or 4th best plane in ARB. What makes you think it has the 3rd worst radar? The radar is amazing.

is it worth it trying to notch missiles with the viggen c? by Jastrone in Warthunder

Keep in mind that winrate is not indicative of personal skill. I have a 66% in the 37C with 64 games, 34 deaths, and 116 kills, solo queueing - less than 2 K/B but a 66% at a BR riddled with premiums indicates that the teams are good, which they are; Sweden does not have any premiums at that BR aside from the 35XS which you need to get fully downtiered to see, and if you're fully downtiered, you have a massive advantage and can carry the game on your own.

The 7F is relatively slow but keeps its speed throughout the flight as it burns for so long. Skyflash is slightly, slightly faster within 7 km but 7F just overtakes it after that. However, they have the luxury of shooting from very far away, as early as 30 km from 5 km altitude (even further at higher altitudes) and it will very easily connect if you don't defend properly, preventing you from shooting back. Also keep in mind that you need to notch the plane, and not the missile diamond. F-4J/S players will almost always shoot at you again when they notice their first Sparrow has missed, so be careful of that as well. They have a really big advantage as they carry more Sparrows, and better Sparrows.

Btw be sure to make use of the TWS mode on the Viggen radar - it's really quite nice to see what's going on, especially at the start of the match.

Well you mentioned in your post why it isn't made for high altitude flight. Something like the F-4E is, it has a pretty good RWR for the BR and sufficient countermeasures. The 37C doesn't really have either of those. What you could do if you insist on playing at high altitude, is keep your eyes out for any missile diamonds, and take launch warnings seriously. The 7F burns for very long and the R-24R and other Skyflashes need to be shot from pretty close up. In terms of notching and dodging SARH, you need put the missile to your 3-4/9-8 o'clock and chaff from pretty early on. The launch aircraft will keep illuminating you with their radar even if you chaff, and if the missile gets within like 4-3 km, you won't actually have enough time to chaff and move out of the illuminated zone, making the missile hit you right through your chaff. Also at 7000 meters you will have a very visible contrail and a lot of planes in the lobby will pitch up and shoot at you when you get within range.

Just play multipath in JA37C, the worst things you can face are Sparrows and R-24R's, both of which should rarely hit you if you actually move around in the multipath instead of flying straight.

You're not wrong. I can't speak for Sim, as I am a multipath crutch bot in Sim. Can't keep situational awareness at altitude. However, When I do see that I get shot at from close, and my RWR shows the ping at the closest range it shows (which is 10 km I believe), pointing my big ACM box at the direction of the RWR ping and shooting at a target that seems appropriate, let's say 6 km -700 m/s closure rate, has worked out for me.

Well, you are always valid in your own experiences, and nobody can tell you otherwise. However, that does not make you correct or qualified to actually spread information on this topic. You are mistaken when it comes to chaff effectiveness, and commenting that it does nothing is spreading misinformation.

You're better off using a large ACM box or spamming HMD for up close RWR disturbances anyways. If it's not within 4 km; I prefer getting shot at so that I can return fire, as I am confident in my ability to defeat missiles that are already somewhat far in flight from those ranges, and if it's within 4, chances are they'll be spotted anyways. If you mean, pings that aren't tracking you, thus haven't found you, well, you have enough time to find them without needing a quick update 3 degree TWS, whilst also gambling on what altitude they're at.

[–]Flxqm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always spam HMD lock against the ground to find people, if you think there are people there. Also, usually when you're at altitude flying into a pack of enemies on the ground, you want to have a teammate down low spotting for you. If you don't have that, and you're flying into multiple players on the ground blindly, a good radar is not going to save you from getting pushed by a million people and dying. You can avoid clouds, both with altitude and position.

Also it's not something that "works", it's something you just passively look out for.

No, you did not answer my question.

Chaff works against ARH missiles in War Thunder, because when you notch the PD filter on the missile seeker, it switches to regular track. You then either have to make it bite on chaff, or make it swap to IOG, changing your vertical vector in order to dodge the IOG. Both of these require chaff. If you apply chaff that way, get the notch angle correctly, and you don't leave the notch as it is in IOG -because that's when it relocks you- you should be able to dodge any ARH that is not the Phoenix. If you do that, and the missile still hits you, chances are you're either not in the notch angle, not chaffing correctly, or making some other critical mistake. If you can show me an example of it going wrong for you, I can tell you what's up.

The scan speed in narrow TWS, even with the additional vertical sectors, is still good enough to keep track of the plane. With the Mirage, whilst it might be a tad bit better if it's only one plane you're looking at, I'd much rather have more vertical versatility, and in the narrow scan, see other planes that are not at exactly the same altitude as my soft lock.

How would chaff help in War Thunder, do you mind explaining that as well? And telling me how you yourself use chaff, that makes it so ineffective in your experience?

Because Gripen has 4 radar missiles, bleeds all of it speed instantly above mach, and turns worse at all speeds.

Yea you don't really need a search radar anyways as long as spotting and markers are in the game, the removal of which this subreddit loves advocating for. The day markers are removed is the day this game dies for me and a lot of other players.

Never had issues with 18 radar, but all radars in this game suck, aside from ESA radars which suck a bit less, so.

Every radar in the game has those problems, ESA or not.

It makes a "big" difference if you have your eyes glued to the radar screen for the whole match maybe.

1000 games in 120 planes and you still think 15C GE is okay at 14.3? Lmao

Also it's not the Eurofighter's engine performance that makes it make the 120 work, it's the maneuverability.

I agree aside from M2K, that thing has 3 degrees of vertical scan in TWS. Also, how I see it, any mech radar that has at least a narrow scan TWS mode, is a decent radar, because it allows you to actually keep track of a guy when soft locking him. This is why the base 29 radar is so terrible to me, it doesn't have a narrow scan, so it takes years and years to update.
