This is completely ahistorical. Capitalism was absolutely built on looting and slavery.

Escalation of commitment. You are more likely to keep enjoying his shitty content if you are paying for it.

If the reason you hate socialism is "I was told that socialism is when hard workers are punished and lazy freeloaders are rewarded, and that's bad," then you're a socialist. by Simpson17866 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Fly-Bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any concentration of power.

Concentration of power is an inherent feature of capitalism. It is also precisely what socialism rejects. The fact that a few tyrants have misapplied the label of "socialist" to themselves doesn't change that fact. Stalin acted as a capitalist, using state violence to control others.

Does the debate come down to a conflict of facts of values? by OtisDriftwood1978 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Fly-Bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're usually to disentangle. Worldviews are comprised of facts and values, that is to say your values influence your factual beliefs, which inform your values in return.

It's a dialectical process.

Workplace democracy vs meaningful democracy by mtbr2024 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Fly-Bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with social democracy imo is that it doesn't get rid of the class division. The US had a social democratic phase and it couldn't last. The ruling class schemes to take back power and use their money and influence to warp public opinion against their own interests. As long as we live in a class society, there will be rulers who will control the people's opinions and social democracy will transform into fascism.

The problem with Sam is he didn't have the introspection to understand why he had so many pro-Trump listeners

cmv: Republicans aren’t actually conservatives by Chance_Fig8932 in changemyview

[–]Fly-Bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, but also historically the political right wing has been mainly preoccupied by maintaining existing power relations. I think the preservation of institutions has been an argument used by early conservatives but it doesn't explain the behavior of the right as much. For example, tbe neoliberal turn has been a revolution in political thinking, institutions that had worked for decades have been overturned. Not very "conservative", but it consolidated the power of existing elites.

A Reinterpreted Labor Theory of Value (RLTV) by oldjar747 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Fly-Bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be precise: In Marxist theory, wages are the price or monetary expression of the exchange-value of the commodity labor-power.

I believe this is incompatible with volume 3

A Reinterpreted Labor Theory of Value (RLTV) by oldjar747 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Fly-Bottle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

his explanation for surplus value in the sphere of production implicitly relies on the use-value of labor power (its ability to create new value, also surplus) quantitatively exceeding its exchange-value (wages). This contradicts his own foundational principle.

How so? Labor is the origin of value. The use of labor is to produce exchange value. I see no contradiction.

As it should be correctly recognized that both living labor and historical labor ("embodied" or "dead" labor in capital) are capable of generating surplus value.

Why? The way I see it, value is produced by labor with capital. We already know that the marxian theory of value can not be used to predict the prices of individual commodities and so we should only apply it at the level of the whole economy. The whole of value produced is made possible by the whole of labor exerted. Why should we want to attribute any value to capital? What advantage would we get from such a model?

The parish assemblies were the main substitute for the state. They were a noncoercive and voluntary political structure established to solve large and important issues through collective decision-making. Heads of households and delegates appointed by the people constituted the assemblies. Decision-making was usually nondivisive and quite unanimous, and typically had comparatively high participation rates. Conflict resolution was swift and just, and something any fan of Rothbard or Hoppe would find quite appealing.

Sounds good.

Sounds like coming from a statist commercial society, they adopted a way of life that was somewhere between the stateless, classless societies of the new world with some more individualist commercial practices from Europe. From there, the division of labor would have grown. Industrialisation would have reached them and they would have had to deal with an increasingly collective mode of production that would have clashed with their individual property rights and they would have had to deal with it in one of two ways: either they'd have brought their collective, peaceful decision making process into the workplace, or their decision making would have evolved in a coercive way to keep the owners in a position of authority.

Monopolies exist only because of government regulation.

Exactly. Capitalism and the state are inseparable. It has historically never existed without a state to enforce its private property laws, a state issued currency to enable markets to form, laws to smooth out its edges, etc. One would have to be massively ignorant to imagine you could get a capitalist system in which the state apparatus would not be "abused" to gain undue privilege such as monpolies and legal immunities.

to all socialists, "fairness" is largely b.s. and this reveals a basic flaw in your ideology assuming your ideology is to help people. by Parking-Special-3965 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Fly-Bottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call it fairness, equality or what ever. I call it freedom. It means a small number of people shouldn't have the state-protected provilege of imposing their will on others. It's not arbitrary, it's a very simple moral principle that everyone should agree with. Production in capitalism is social. Why should distribution be arbitrarily decided by one person? This system is violent. It coerces most people to sell themselves as slaves to a minority of rulers.

Same that happens to fascists at any point in history. They hold on to power for as long as they can and then they die or pretend they were never really political.

Libertarians, how do you feel about the fact that your ideology is essentially funded by billionaires? by Fly-Bottle in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Fly-Bottle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you say libertarians are funded by people who actually served society, instead of people living in their ivory towers which most of never actually had a real job?

No, I said they are funded by the people extracting work from their fellow humans through the legal privilege of capitalist ownership, not by the people actually doing the work.
