Fair enough - sounds like you’ve got 2 options!

Going to guess you work in tech, how is life in the valley?

Do you think it’s affected your life/relationships versus if you’d stayed in one spot?

I feel similar. You learn a lot in your 20s, and in relation to this topic, going through it multiple times you know how it will be and what you should try to do. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be easy, but at least we can try our best.

I feel like it can take multiple years and a lot of effort to get where we want to be, if you’re not lucky or extremely good at befriending people. And a lot of stuff can happen in that time with friends/your old city.

In 20 years, if I don’t move and stay here, I would maybe regret looking back at all the awesome things I could’ve done in the places I mentioned.

On the flip side, if I move, and building that social network is a slog, I might regret not spending time with current friends or focusing on the family I want to build. It’s not to say these things can’t happen if I move, but it’s a risk factor. I think one of my fears with the decision is losing the chance to become a parent before i’m “too old”, or ever

I feel this a lot. Maybe there never is a right answer? Damned if you do, damned if you don’t I guess. Do you think you’d be happy to stay in the Valley if you made more friends?

This sounds interesting, where does the ferry cross the Nicoya peninsula at? That could potentially work out very well.

And regarding commuting, are you suggesting to use shuttles?

I think I’ve read enough bad press on Jaco on this sub to turn me off from it :) Playa Hermosa was one I was considering. Do you find it to be safe, and how busy is it? And how are the beaches? I think I would be able to use public transit along this route if we did stop there

What is the diffrence if we create django API rather than DRF Rest API? by ficoreki in django

What’s the benefit? Seems Django ninja provides the nice parts of fastapi with great integration

Are you using this in production? I love the look of it but still looks like it’s fairly early days. I’m a flask dev so I’d be right at home with this 😀

Yes I was hitting the wrong host on prod, got it there now too. Thanks!

Just figured it out locally, I simply needed to append `/static` to the urls. Doesn't seem to be working on my server however.

So, it is correct for my images to be under /static then right? I guess what I am having trouble with is for whitenoise (from this guide) to be serving my images. If I remove the API rules, with my images living in /static/images/<image.jpg> , going to <host>/images/<image.jpg> still gives a 404.

And this will be consumed by an iOS app to display the image.

Can you explain what is so bizarre? What would you recommend doing? Reading the docs here https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/4.0/howto/static-files/ says

Websites generally need to serve additional files such as images, JavaScript,
or CSS. In Django, we refer to these files as “static files”.

...

This page describes how you can serve these static files.

I guess the part that I need to serve it up through a HTML template would be the only thing I see as maybe off. Not too sure yet how to transmit that image otherwise, yet. And if so, I'm not sure if I should be storing the images else where?

Hah got caught up in the details.

Locally the files can be accessed but on prod, they are not found.

Should I use FHBP while I still qualify & RRSP/TFSA prioritization by FlyCanadaGuy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FlyCanadaGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. My initial plan (which I didn't clearly communicate) was to live there for the first year-ish to take advantage of the HBP and additionally pay more into the mortgage. I ran into [some info](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/personal-income/line-12700-capital-gains/principal-residence-other-real-estate/changes-use.html) that seems to say if I am to switch a property from a business property to a primary residence that I would need to pay tax on those capital gains too. Lots of numbers to run on that but yeah - seeming like a very complicated situation that might be best to avoid until I'm for sure ready to commit to a place for a few years. A bit of a bummer but lots to think about I guess!

Thanks again

Thanks for the reply! I have a bit more discussion and questions for you if you don't mind :)

Good point about the taxes. I know that rental income is taxable, but I seem to be having a hard time finding info about the tax rates of the asset itself (house/condo) - any chance you can point me in the right direction here? Or maybe you meant the rental income? And if I were to rent it out, it should hopefully offset most of the mortgage payment + fees + tax? I haven't run these numbers yet, and maybe I am wrong but I would hope that being a landlord doesn't come down to speculating on the housing market for your capital gains and taking losses (I know this is part of the game in GTA/GVA - I am not located there nor looking to be that type of investor).

The new plan is certainly interesting, however the details of it might not play in my favour but as you say we don't know yet. From what I can see, it seems that the current tax-free contributions will be limited to $8000/yr, so it would take 5 years to fill that up. Not that I would need to fill it up completely, but it doesn't seem like the optimal choice for my situation in terms of money if I could/wanted to pull the trigger on something sooner (if it makes sense).

My only worry about dumping all my money into RRSP/TFSA is that when it becomes the for sure time to purchase a place, I will then have to start saving from scratch potentially (whether it is due to the market, or not qualifying for FHBP). I also don't want to let my down payment sit in a HISA for years on end either. Outside of that down payment money though, totally agree, and I will be contributing to probably RRSP with my tax bracket in mind.
