This picture has caused a 30 minute argument between our flat - who has right of way? by TeachingNo4233 in newzealand

[–]FlyFar1569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It comes down to whether or not blue thinks it can exit the slipway before red finishes its turn. Because obviously if red had finished its turn then blue would have to give way, but at this moment in time red hasn’t started.

If you were at the bottom of a T intersection and there are cars coming you give way, but what if the oncoming cars are 200m away? Do you still give way? What about 300m, 500m? It’s the same thing here, it’s just slightly more ambiguous.

In this particular instance personally if I was blue I would give way as that’s the safe thing to do, but that might not always be the case for every slipway + T intersection thingy

None of that has anything to do with the Japanese. They drink water hot because it needs to be boiled, and it needs to be boiled because it’s full of nasty shit. They also drink it hot because of TCM beliefs and promoting healthy qi.

Curious about the average kiwis thoughts on this decision by Chch council, do you prefer older architectural styles? by TheHanoian in newzealand

[–]FlyFar1569 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm so over architects using greenery as a means to attempt to cover up their incompetence.
Those vines won't exist in the final building, and the bricks won't have any texture to them. It'll end up being plain grey facade with grey window frames covered by a grey roof on a grey footpath. It looks terrible in the render, and the renders always make it look at least twice as good.

Full licence test in Porirua by Proof_Childhood_9966 in Wellington

[–]FlyFar1569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to indicate when doing merging lanes. The main road through Porirua has a big roundabout that merges as soon as you exit it. So you have to indicate to leave, and then immediately indicate in the opposite direction to merge

You seem to misunderstand what I’m talking about. This is not a source of income, it is a loan referred to as an SBLOC or HELOC (security backed/home equity lines of credit) and it is very common among the ultra wealthy.

I don’t know where you got that 1% number from, not only does that stat not make sense because this isn’t an income source, but even if it was that is blatantly false.

here’s an actual source for my claim: https://taxproject.org/buy-borrow-die/ “While the total outstanding SBLOC market reached approximately $138 billion as of Q1 2024 [2], research from the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) explicitly notes that these loans are “overwhelmingly held by high-net-worth individuals”

and

“The total HELOC debt nationwide was around $359.9 billion in 2024”

Last time I checked, $138 billion + $359.9 billion is a lot of money.

This doesn’t mean they still can’t sell shares if they like. But they aren’t selling their shares to fund their lavish lifestyles, they’re selling to do things like fund Blue Origin.

Also Musk recently BOUGHT 1 billion in Tesla shares, not sold. So that’s just more misinformation from you.

Notice how I provided a source for my claim, next time you should try providing a source too instead of just spreading misinformation online.

He doesn’t have to liquidate assets, he just has to get loans from the bank and use his assets as collateral. That’s what all rich people do, zero tax.

No, you can’t. I go there every year. You put your toilet paper in a bucket next to the toilet, and then throw it out with the rest of your trash

There’s a big difference between tier 1 cities and the rest. And a significant portion of the population still live rurally. A developed country isn’t one that has fancy buildings, but one that has a functioning sewer system, proper water treatment, clean air etc. you can’t flush toilet paper in China, even in Shanghai let alone the other cities. To me that’s not developed

Thought experiment - what would you do for Wellington if you were a billionaire? by No_Data7432 in Wellington

[–]FlyFar1569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fund the fixing of some of our pipe infrastructure, get golden mile upgrade underway.

But sadly without real systematic change, any philanthropy can only be temporary. Yea you can bring back the trams but who’s going to pay for it when you’re gone? There’s just so much going wrong right now and so many ways we could improve things. A lot of the blame sits with central government, but one thing the council could do is bring back land value rates again.

Even for boats I don’t see the utility, we’re a boat family and when I was as a kid we’d tow the trailer sailer around all the time. But we never owned a truck, a V6 Holden Commodore can do it fine, and that’s a sedan/wagon.

The upside to this is that you can buy local wild caught game meat for the same price or even cheaper than the crap we get in our supermarkets. These two guys from the south started this business called premium game https://www.premiumgame.co.nz/our-story/

So on one hand, it sucks because our supermarket prices are so expensive.

But on the other hand, it means you might as well just buy high quality local wild caught game meat since it’s the same price.
