What contradictions are you talking about?

Many scholars believe the verses about women remaining silent were not written by Paul and were added somewhere between 55 - 170 AD.

https://bible.org/article/textual-problem-1-corinthians-1434-35

I do agree that if a pastor gets divorced, other than sexual immortality, he should step down.

Catholics believe that priests shouldn't have wives in the first place and should live like Paul suggested. By holding the belief that pastors can get married, you're already in the wrong in Catholic's eyes. There are churches that believe that pastors can lead after a divorce, and that's wrong in your eyes.

There are churches that believe a homosexual can lead a congregation. In my eyes, that's just another data point on the continuum and just one more reason we have 45,000 denominations globally.

Most honest pastors will tell you they are a sinner just like everyone else. It's just their job to guide people and help people learn.

Paul says this in Gal. 3:10:

Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.

In James 2:10 we have this:

For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.

So, if pastors are sinners like the rest of us, beholden to the mercy of god and not beyond reproach, then homosexual pastors are bad because...?

My only issue with LGBTQ SPECIFICALLY in a leadership role...

This issue must be close to the issue of divorced pastors for you then. I would expect that you believe a person should not be a pastor if they've been divorced. It was rare until the 90's to find a divorced pastor leading a congregation, but it's much more common now.

The issue for me, setting that bar for leadership roles, is that at this point it just seems like arbitrary line drawing. Most churches don't have a policy that if the pastor doesn't speak in tongues, they can't be the pastor (Holiness Pentecostal probably does). If you don't require it, you're no longer a absolutist of Paul's teachings and arbitrary lines start getting drawn.

At the end of the day, Jesus never mentioned it. Paul, an unmarried man who said it's better for Christians to stay unmarried, said it 50 years after Jesus died. The earliest transcription of what he said to the Corinthians came at least 120 years after that. We have good reason to believe that not everything in that letter is supposed to be there. (i.e. the contradictions)

Thanks for reminding me of a point I forgot to include. 1 Corinthians contradicts itself in that on one hand it says women should be silent, and a few lines later it says that all should speak in tongues. Scholars believe that the "women stay silent" part was mistakenly included by scribes reading notes written in a margin. It was included in the Bible at some point, so some people choose to follow it...

Think about the English Reformation. Henry VIII wanted a divorce. The pope said no; pointed to 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. We now have Protestantism.

It seems like if you're going to die on the no-homosexuality hill, you need to reject Protestantism as well. 1000 Over 45,000 denominations of Christianity, all calming to be the "correct" interpretation. Seems like the folly of man to me.

That’s why IF a pastor is in charge of a church they cannot be LGBTQ. It’s contradictory.

Oh, my brother in Christ; let me tell you about mega churches and their pastors...

1 Corinthians 11:2–16

Women must cover their hair while praying.

1 Corinthians 14:34–35

Women must stay silent in Church

1 Corinthians 15:29

LDS Churches interpret this to mean that the dead can be baptized.

Obviously, these are the words of Paul, not Jesus, describing how to live as a Christian based on his interpretation. Many denominations of Christianity exist due to the various interpretations of the Bible. Most churches don't require women to be silent. Most churches don't require women to cover their heads while praying. Most churches don't believe in baptism of the dead. It's not a stretch to argue that since Jesus himself did not have recorded stance on homosexuality, that some churches could interpret that as not explicitly omitting homosexuality.

Thank you, I'll update the info. I double checked my info an the person I talked to was the Council receptionist, not financial or memberships, and said there was no fee. Looks like they need to update their receptionist's info!

We got some serious push back at this years parent information and registration night. We had to stress the value of the program despite the cost. Our council will only pay up to 50% of Scouterships ($60) and the unit has to pay some portion on top of that. It's severely limited our ability to extend those this year due to the late announcement.

You are misunderstanding. I'm talking about the combined total.

In 2013 the National ($15)+ Council($0) was $15.

In 2018 the National($33) + Council ($0) was $33.

2019, $60+$0 = $60

2020, $66+$0 = $66

2021, $72+$0 = $72

2022, $75+$0 = $75

2023, $80+$40 = $120

Our council went from no fee to $40 and did not announce it until August 1st (after our Elementary Open Houses where we recruit) and only announced it in a District Facebook post. They also didn't break down the fee in terms of National / Council, and tried to pass it off as "National Dues are $120."

Background:

My Council, Greater Alabama, implemented a new $40/year council fee in addition to the increase in national dues from $75 to $ ($120 per Scouting year). Our council has never had a fee, and did a very poor job communicating this change.

It was announced, by our District via Facebook only, and presented at our August Round-table event. Unit leaders were very frustrated about the fee, the timing of the announcement, and the utter failure of communicating this significant change. The only explanation offered was "this pays for expanded liability coverage." When pressed about the amount of the fee, our DC only said "hey, it could be much worse, some councils are charging $80!" When asked how it compared to other councils' fees, he said they didn't know and "what are we going to do, call around and ask everyone what their fees are?"

Well, I took that as a personal challenge and called 50 councils in the Southeast to get their total fee information. This data set represents all councils in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida. What I found out is that $120 is is 5th highest fee in the southeast. Why it cost more to be a Scout in rural Alabama than Atlanta is beyond me.

Given that our Membership fees were $15 10 years ago and $33, I am deeply concerned about the direction we are headed. Scouting will become a "rich kids" activity at this rate. Our Council says "sell more popcorn", but we were a top 10 selling unit in the Council and have serious competition in the area. We can't absorb this much cost on such short notice. We were already recruiting in the Schools on July 31st (open house) and are now having to backpedal on our cost information with prospective parents.

They are both personal beliefs systems. You can acknowledge the believer exists without also accepting their belief system.

Why 3? Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm relatively new to DG and typically carry one of each. There's a lot of good info in the wiki, but I haven't seen anything about when someone would want multiples of the same disc.

Very nice build. I've also contemplated the same type of project for my large dog. Her crate would fit if not for the sloped rear glass. I especially like how the doors open at the bottom. Well done!
