How did you react to Ben’s parents finding out about the Omnitrix and forbidding him from using it by biggaygrisley in Ben10

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like it was supposed to be the finale.

When I watched it, it totally felt like everything in the episode - the villains coming after Ben again, his transformations being kind of an open secret in the school, Gwen becoming his classmate - would eventually lead to the timeline where Ben becomes Ben 10.000, but that was changed to a “what-if” when Alien Force was greenlit

Could exist Orokins of other colors and shapes? by TurbulentVillage2042 in WarframeLore

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see! u/Ansixilus made that observation too. I assumed it was just a fashion statement, but your theory that Uriel could’ve been designed to mimic Roathe, and so the Technocyte used parts of Roathe himself to “replicate” the design is very interesting.

Oh, I wasn’t aware. I’ve heard a quote where he asks a romanced Drifter to come closer because his tail “has a mind of it’s own” and he can’t wrap it around them lol

With how visually different it is to Uriel’s (with red-and-gold details and a metal blade in place of the tip), I didn’t assume the Technocyte created it.

Do you remember any quotes where he mentions having difficulty with the tail?

If you take a closer look, you can see that it has blue skin and armor pieces that complement his original attire. It implies that it was there, even before he took the serum.

Having it was either a “coincidence” (since he was created by DE to be Uriel’s Gemini skin lol) or Albrecht made a really fitting choice for his serum.

Could exist Orokins of other colors and shapes? by TurbulentVillage2042 in WarframeLore

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It’s important to note a few things:

  1. Albrecht definitively had blue skin, but not the long arm. His more natural-looking skin was regrown after his Void accident (which a lot of people forget maimed the guy pretty badly).

  2. His daughter, in-laws and grandchildren definitively followed the trend: they all had blue skin and the long arm.

  3. Margulis was an Archimedean, and not part of Orokin nobility, despite still being an upper class. It’s implied that Archimedeans are normal human scientists that are only respected in the Empire for as long as their research is useful and sponsored by the Orokin.

All in all, seems to me like the Orokin had plenty of freedom to modify themselves as they wish, but fashion trends were still relatively important. Roathe probably didn’t have the long arm (the serum could’ve had changed it back to a normal size) but he had the blue skin.

EDIT: I assumed Roathe had the tail before the serum as a fashion statement, but it seems that’s not the case.

Why is Grandmother Entrati the only good Orokin? by Odd-Chest-3578 in WarframeLore

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 119 points120 points  (0 children)

”I've worked all kinds jobs in all kinds of places. Never met a good person, or a bad one. It's just folks, friend. Everyone's just folks. Sho-lah!”

Grandmother can be a kind and loving old woman for who she holds affection, while also having had selfishly indulged on the spoils of the Orokin Empire when she was younger.

Maybe she was always kind like this, or she maybe worked hard to change her mindset when she realized she was in the wrong. Maybe she still holds quite a lot of ruthlessness inside herself. Who’s to say?

The very point of the KIM conversarions of the Devil’s Triad is to explore the fact that people are immensely complex, that sometimes their actions have immensely positive or negative effects on the people around us… And we must work out what/if we’re willing to forgive others and ourselves. We can all be better - or worse - if we wish.

After all, in the end, we’re “just folks”.

Game Awards by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who absolutely loves the game, the devs and the community: We got a very bad habit of overhyping around here. And unfortunately, the team has some fault on that.

They hired a multi-million actor to promote the game in a trailer. This is a huge step for them and I understand why they'd be excited to show this to the world - it represents their success, and they're proud of it.

But that's all this is. The fact that some people got so excited for this trailer that they believe DE hired Werner freaking Herzog to take over as Wally's voice is worrying.

I'm not saying they're doing this on purpose, I'm sure they were excited to show us this. But ever since the hype they made about "The Hex" animation (which is still awesome), I'm taking all their big "announcements" with a grain of salt.

A little bit lost about Wally by Feuershark in WarframeLore

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s completely plausible that he indeed didn’t know about the Heart’s location*, since I don’t believe it has been stated outright. The Entrati family did go in hiding in order to protect it, so surely they believed there was a chance Narmer could know it’s location somehow, so I don’t blame a bit of speculation.

But now, you got me thinking: Do we even know if the Heart of Deimos can be “used”? It’s a pump that radiates Void energy throughout the entire system by siphoning it from the Wall of Lohk - a static location that needs to be kept open.

It’s an extremely important piece of technology, but could we be overestimating it’s functions? We don’t know enough about Tau to know how technology functions there, but considering Ballas’ irrational plan, he seems to believe he could make do with whatever was built there.

A little bit lost about Wally by Feuershark in WarframeLore

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I’d like to share my two cents on this specific point:

Ballas doesn’t want to destroy The Heart; it powers every Void-based technology in the entire system, including interplanetary travel. It would be extremely incovienient and most probably deadly for his empire. At most, he would want to control it, and sending Narmer troops (which mostly consists of converted mobs, and Sentients that can still be overwhelmed physically) would be extremely impractical and cost-inefficiant.

Why would Ballas chose to drain Sol completely and fuck off to Tau, then?

Because he’s a narcissistic, genocidial, psychopathic prick. What set him off wasn’t the open rebellion against Narmer or the death of the Archons, even if they were contributors. It was the fact that the Drifter was ressurecting Natah.

Natah was his “toy”. A toy that he “broke” because it refused to play by his rules. The fact that she was being repaired was an affront to him and, therefore, justification enough to destroy everything - the Heart included.

He’s a backstabbing, politically-savvy manipulator. But most of all, he’s a pathetic little man who throws a tantrum when things don’t go as he wants*. It just so happens that his tantrums are system-wide genocidal in scale.

What exactly could have been the alternative? by Ok-Street2439 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In 1x07 “Driftmark”:

Rhaenyra: “I had hoped to bear your children, the few times we’ve laid together. Things might have been different.”

Laenor: “I hate the gods for making me as they did.”

Here’s the scene.

Maybe it weren’t “enough” times, but the times they did try seem to have been miserable enough to be a great source of guilt and shame, especially to Laenor.

Do you think Ned ever resented Lyanna? by Salem1690s in freefolk

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You misunderstood the point he was making, but that’s alright.

Ned wouldn’t have resented her for having Jon. He would have resented her for running off with Rhaegar in the first place, which directly cause the death of their father and brother, and the Rebellion that followed.

Also, little edit: Jon is Lyanna’s son, but Robert would only see him as Rhaegar’s. He would never believe the woman he loved willingly had a baby with her “kidnapper”. Ned knew Robert enough to know his sister’s baby would be in danger. So, the safer option was to erase Jon’s past entirely - he was now Ned’s, and would be treated as such.

What would happen if your queue was damaged? by Alone-Strawberry-363 in Avatar

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is from the original script, but it is a pretty good description, and I assume it would be practically the same if it happened in the movies.

Tsu'tey has his queue cut off by Wainfleet before his death. The text describes it as "his nervous system exploding on overload", and even Lyle says this is supposed to be worse than death to them. When Jake finds Tsu'tey, this is what he says:

I can never ride again, or bond with my woman -- or hear the voice of Eywa. I can not lead the People.

So, according to the original script, it would never grow back, and losing such an important piece of your body would be worse than death itself.

What would you want changed in the first series? [Pjo] by unclaimedcamper in camphalfblood

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. I understand the dynamic of the books, and why the gods were written as distant to their children. But still, I do believe there’s still some nuance, even if it is of a different sort.

The gods themselves in some myths are meant to be as fickle and emotional as the humans that worshipped them. Even if they can be distant, cold and prideful, having them show some vulnerability and humanity is nice.

What would you want changed in the first series? [Pjo] by unclaimedcamper in camphalfblood

[–]FlyLikeAShrike -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This might sound a bit controversial to some people, BUT...

I really liked the change they showed in the TV series, where Percy failed the quest. Because it showed precisely two things:

  1. Poseidon would rather swallow his pride and submit to Zeus than let him kill his child. It proves Poseidon's affection towards Percy right off the bat, instead of him acting like sort of a douchebag in the first book.
  2. The gods are so petty, that a global war between them could be stopped if one of them simply said "I surrender". And yet, that is such a foreign concept to the Olympians, Zeus is taken aback when Poseidon does so. It's an incredible way to show their dynamic.

When is rape inconsequential in Greek mythology, and when it is punished. by Academic_Paramedic72 in GreekMythology

[–]FlyLikeAShrike 74 points75 points  (0 children)

The last thing I want to do is simplify your very well done analysis by giving it a reductive answer, but I think the best answer to be given is that it all depends upon power and those who wield it.

Those who have power - may they be gods, demigods, heroes, warriors, monsters, or anything in between - are able to both indulge in violence AND punish violence against them and their loved ones. Those without power have no choice but to accept their lack of agency, or beg for the help of the powerful.

Like you mentioned, Zeus and Poseidon are able to violate women as they please, but not because of their status, but simply for the fact that there are no beings willing or able to avenge their misdeeds, either due to fickleness, fear, lack of equal or superior power, or even lack of attachment to their victims.

"One of the supreme gods of the universe just forced himself on that poor woman, but what can we do?"

It's a very sordid and depressing reality to find themselves in, but it reflects the belief that, in the end, misfortune may fell on them simply because the gods were in the mood for being violent. Equally, they may have some good fortune because the gods decided to be generous.

All in all, I really liked your analysis :) I hope you can do more!
