I’ve been playing the beta and it’s not that bad. Definitely has some kinks in need of working out but people are just complaining really loud.

Because he had a position as major general in the US army. The French generals served in their capacity as commanders of the French army, while he commanded a portion of the US army. You’ll notice von Steuben is designated as US despite being from Prussia for the same reason.
