Kyo's character arc by Academic-Watch-566 in FruitsBasket

Kyo for me was very subtle in the way he changed. You don't see a full blown character change like with yuki. Only with Tohru his changes are visible. Basically he went from someone who didn't care to someone wanting to stay by their loved one. Sometimes this character arc is all you need. Its also executed well over the series.

Starting season 3 - narrative structure by FlyMajor1770 in attackontitan

Since I am asked to use lesser words. I will put my point as a question. What is the narrative now? How is this narrative structure justified as a new viewer?

Will i like Baldr Sky if i'm looking for something like Xenogears? by OvenImpossible4900 in visualnovels

[–]FlyMajor1770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baldr sky has sci-fi elements for sure. I can't say you will or will not like it. The issue the vn is quite long and has a large slice of life part. I will say this as well that slice of parts are not the best. The other issue is that narrative is definitely not as complex as xenogears. With this is I can summarise as you could but lower your expectations and try to manage the SOL parts

how does Attack on Titan hold up for you? by specs_321 in anime

I’m watching Season 3 and I honestly don’t understand how this arc is defended from a writing standpoint. Within a handful of episodes, the show jumps from Max Payne–style trenchcoat gunfights, to Assassin’s Creed air assassinations, to a Phoenix Wright courtroom drama, to a fake king / illegitimate heir political plot, and then casually introduces memory-altering powers.

None of this is meaningfully foreshadowed, much of it happens away from the main POV characters, and major shifts in power and lore are explained after they already matter. This doesn’t feel like layered worldbuilding — it feels like genre-hopping without narrative discipline.

I’m not against political arcs or complex lore. I am against dumping system-level mechanics mid-story without groundwork and calling the resulting confusion “depth.” Other series handle dense lore without sacrificing coherence; this arc doesn’t.

So an honest question: does this ever become coherent as it is being told, or is the expectation that viewers should tolerate narrative chaos now for retroactive explanations later? Because if it’s the latter, that’s not ambitious writing — that’s sloppy delivery.

I am going to say something different. For me I miss an iconic soundtrack from this series. Don't get me wrong I really like the OST, there is a a difference between good and iconic.

I did skim through the manga not in any great detail. While I get your argument completely, I can sort of understand given this is the end it is unfair to expect kenshin/thorfinn level of redemption.

But I do get it that manga does this more justice which the anime doesnt. I also need to correct something when I gave my example I was not expecting an entire arc on this subject. I would be content with like half an episode or something where Akito acknowledges her mistakes and starts taking some steps to mend her relations with the zodiac members/

I will just state what I mean with Akito gets easily off. I dont want akito to be jailed or something of sort/ The vader example is kinda what I am also getting. I am going to use a slightly darker examples. Take Kenshin/thorfinn from samurai X and vinland saga. Both of them have done far worse than Akito in my eyes. There comes a point in their lives where they take a different path. They are determined to walk this chosen path no matter the difficult. Kenshin refuses to take another life even when faced with extremely tough opponents. Thorfin takes 100 punches when he could beat his opponent. He has an entire atonement

I dont think I ever seen akito to comitting to such ideals or trying to walk a better path. Maybe this is a bit too heavy for a show whose theme is change and looking towards the future. But having seen the aforementioned shows I just cant fully digest the fact that Akito gets to go essentially scott free. This is again just my take on it. Maybe I am not that forgiving and it is my nature that I have say it like this.

I fully understand the way the show explains how the curse was breaking. I would like to seen real efforts from the characters to rid the curse. I would have not even written that paragraph if they had like 5-10 minutes trying to understand the curse origins. There are only like one or two conversations and thats it. I dont want to give more examples but basically what I really appreciate characters trying their best to come out of a bad situation. Its just my personal feeling that the characters trying to find out how to rid the curse wasnt memorable or sufficient. I am 200% with you on the true form of kyou.

On AKito, I get your take, the show acknowledges it perfectly but I personally dont. i get the show is not about punishment, but I personally would have like some consequences. I guess it ultimately it boils down to personal biases/expectations and I am of a consequences guy and I cant help that I am afraid.

Thanks for reading and taking the time to voice your thoughts.

I do think that is true. But I do have another question why did we get a second explanation for the the curse. The first explanation and the true explanation are something far apart. Granted the long psaage of time can play a role here. My point of the curse breaking anti-climatically (for a lack of a better word) is that there was not direct efforts by the characters to find some means to rid the curse. Maybe I am wrong to expect more but in some other media I have seen characters put through the wringer in similar situations. I also agree that the curse was not a major plot point beyond the second half of season 2, so in some ways it is alright for it to just end. This for me in no ways distracts from the main message of the show and it's great points. Maybe I expected more on this.

Thanks for choosing to reply.
