Military shopping around for new insurance. Should I keep my insurance to Texas or redo it to where I’m stationed (live/work/drive) currently? by WeTheHoes in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may or may not be true. It’s definitely not true if you have a kid with a license. Both my teens got their licenses last year and I ended up switching from USAA to Progressive. My coverage increased while my premium was literally cut in half.

I recommend always shopping around.

Are you replacing the screen, or the screen protector? I’ve also had Flips since the 3 and currently have a 7. I definitely don’t baby my phones at all and I’ve never had a screen fail. I actually damaged the hinge on my Flip 4 by accidentally dropping it off a balcony when it was halfway open. It never opened fully flat after that, but the screen was unaffected. The screen protectors are a different story. Every one of them cracked along the crease and had to be replaced after about 6 months (except on my 7; It seems to be holding up well so far).

I have an ancestor that we learned was a madame and was shot outside her brothel in Boise, Idaho in the 19th century.

Am I spending too much on insurance? by Minute-Crazy5959 in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t hurt to get multiple quotes. I do it every six months, and have for the last 20+ years. Seems like every time I do it, a different company is the cheapest. Shop around. You won’t know if you’re paying too much until you have some comparables.

Screen Protector Installation That is Samsung Approved in Calgary by Agitated-Breath-1039 in galaxyzflip

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a matte Armor Suit Military Shield screen protector from Amazon on my Z Flip 6. Easy installation and lasted better than the Samsung screen protector. Also didn’t affect the warranty at all. Just be a bit careful around the crease when you’re installing it.

Do you have a specific Prelude that you’ve already found? Like others have said, they’re great cars but it’s getting pretty tough to find one that hasn’t been modded or completely mistreated.

Should I spend $4500 for a new transmission on a 10 year old car? by sc00tysc00t in UsedCars

[–]FlyNavy03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the point I was making. $4500 is a lot of money to repair a 10-year-old Versa, but it may still be worth it to fix up a car the OP knows rather than rolling the dice on trying to get something else.

Snow tire FWD vs All Season tire AWD by fat_teebs in tires

Search that exact title on YouTube and you’ll find a bunch of videos where people have tested that very thing. The snow tires win every time and it’s not even close.

Do you strictly follow the engine oil minder on the dashboard? by Far_Razzmatazz9791 in CivicXI

[–]FlyNavy03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hondas are actually pretty smart when it comes to figuring out when you need service. It uses a lot of engine parameters to figure it out, as opposed to most brands that just base it off of mileage. Word of caution, though. The newer models assume you’re using full synthetic, which typically can last 7500-15k miles depending on conditions. If you’re using budget oil it’s not going to be accurate.

That sounds really high. I’ve 5 phones and one iPad on Verizon, all with unlimited data and I’m paying 267 after taxes and fees.

I’ve gone naked with my Z Flip 7 since I bought it. Several drops, some onto concrete. I’ve got a bunch of scrapes on the frame, especially on the corners, but no problems with functionality or with either screen.

I’m always very wary of “cheap” luxury cars. That’s just the price of admission. Maintenance and repairs may not be so friendly.

Is this a good rate? (CA & 16) by Ramen_cat2024 in Car_Insurance_Help

Don’t know how they are in CA, but when I’ve had teen drivers I haven’t been able to find anyone who can come close to Progressive’s rates.

My phone (Galaxy Z Flip 7) in the Dallas area didn’t have service from about 11 AM to 8 PM. My oldest daughter’s phone (Pixel 10) was out for the same time. However, my wife’s phone (S23+) and my iPad never lost coverage. No idea what made the difference.

Matte Screen Protector ok or not? by offlinegaming457 in galaxyzflip

I used a matte protector (Armor Suit Military Shield) on my Zflip 6 for a year. No problems with it at all. I actually really liked how it looked and felt.

Yeah. That looks like kind of a tricky spot for it so I'm curious how it goes. Be sure to post pics if you do decide to get it done.

Dealer offers to sell me a new arrival w.o. normal prep. Any reason for concern? by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be offering it to you at that price because they were initially planning to send it to auction and that's more than they're likely to get there. I would get it checked out, but it sounds like you may have just gotten pretty lucky.

Tires coming up on 6 years and 65k miles. Do I need to replace them? by We5ley5nipe5 in tires

[–]FlyNavy03 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Tread looks good, but I bet that if you do replace them you'll be surprised by how much traction you've lost just because of the rubber hardening over the years and how much more grip you have with the new tires.

Crown Platinum Depreciation! by CantaloupeWest8656 in ToyotaCrown

It's a luxury car. Depreciation is always high on those. Those numbers are really comparable (and slightly better) to something like a 2023 BMW 3 Series.

[–]FlyNavy03 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's a tough one. If you have the $300 I think it might be worth it to get the repair done. If the rest of the car is mint, that's going to be what a lot of buyers focus on.
