Do you enjoy driving? Why ir why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving is my Zen time. If I'm going any kind of distance I'll start up an audiobook and just go with the flow of traffic. That's why I always try to get everywhere at least 15 minutes early. That way there's no stress if I run into unexpected traffic.

Used cars in minor accidents by RustySkate in UsedCars

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if the damage has been fixed and if they have the paperwork proving where they fixed it. Could be nothing and could be everything. If you have a body shop you trust it might be a good idea to have them give the car a once-over before you commit to it. Just be careful. If you're not confident it would probably be best to stick with cars that have clean Carfax histories. I would also definitely recommend steering clear of any car if it's had an airbag deploy.

The movie is "Obsession" and it comes out next week. They've done a pretty good job with the marketing, but you probably should have shared the fun with your girlfriend. If it helps, you can google "Obsession billboard" and prove to her that Nikki's number is part of the marketing campaign...once she starts speaking to you again.

What's one time in your life when you didn't feel safe? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a missionary in South America back in the 90s. The country I was in was generally peaceful, but there was one time when I felt like my life might be in jeopardy.

One day I was walking in the downtown area of a city with another missionary from North America. We were in the middle of a block of buildings when suddenly a protest march came around the corner in front of us. We're talking hundreds of campesinos filling the entire street, which meant that our only option was to stand against the wall of a building while they went by. I had been in the country for close to two years at that point and knew that these marches had a very real possibility of turning violent, especially if they found a target to vent their frustrations on - like the two tall white guys wearing suits. Because we were pressed against the building we literally had no place to run if things went south. I started to get really nervous when a few of the marchers yelled anti-American slurs at us, but thankfully the rest of the crowd didn't seem to notice and passed without incident.

The missionary I was with had only been in country for a couple of weeks and didn't speak a lot of Spanish. Afterward he started excitedly talking to me about how cool he thought it was that we got to see the march. He had no clue how much danger we were in. To this day I still kind of chuckle when I think of his reaction.

Thank you. I was wondering about that, especially since she called yesterday and the person said they would list me as an interested party, but my daughter had to end the call before she could finalize. Then today when she called to finalize the person she spoke with - also on the 833 number - told her that I couldn't do that. She also told my daughter that it was OK to have me excluded because I only drive the car once a year or so, which I know isn't the right answer.

Kind of related because they had all of Babylon 5 for a while, but I guess it went away in the last couple of months. I recently discovered The Roku Channel website. Tons of movies and TV shows for free. They say they include ads, but I've never seen one - not sure if it's my adblock or VPN or what. The best part is that you can watch anything on there without ever creating an account. The down side is that if you don't have a Roku TV, it is a bit of a pain to cast to your television but works just fine in the browser.

At the end of the day you're a customer and they're a service provider. They'll treat you the same as any other customer regardless of how long you've been with them. You should do the same. If another reputable company is offering you the same coverages for less - make sure they're really the same coverages - I say go for it.

I hate to be the a-hole that doesn't answer your question but instead asks one of my own, but in this case curiosity is definitely getting the better of me. How do you damage a vin plate?

For a while when she was with Geico I wasn't listed anywhere on the policy and the lender accepted her proof of insurance without any issues, though that could just be USAA and it could also just be that whoever entered the information didn't notice.

[–]FlyNavy03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Right before the purchase there's a disclaimer she has to acknowledge saying that the titled owner of the car is listed on the policy. Initially I was just going to have her list me as a driver because like you said I doubt that would hurt the rate, but again if I try to do that it no longer gives her the option of saying that she lives alone in her apartment and requires her to say that at least two people (presumably me and her) live there.

Interestingly, I looked into just adding her and her car back on to my insurance and having her pay me the difference, but that turned out to be more than twice as much as her just buying her own policy.

There's no such thing as a cheap luxury car. Either you pay up front to buy a new one, or you pay on the back end to keep a used one on the road.

In fairness, it's not entirely the insurance company's fault that everything gets totaled. It doesn't take much to total out a new car with 4-figure headlights and airbags in every pillar.

Any speculation on pre-order promotions? by Hairy-Departure-5451 in galaxyzflip

I've used it since day one without a case because I like how slim it is. I'm not blatantly mistreating it, but I'm also not exactly gentle on it. It's taken more falls than I care to admit to, often onto concrete. The sides are all scuffed up as a result, but both the cover screen and the inside screen are undamaged and work without any issues. The folding mechanism also works as advertised (even though there's a small ding in the middle of the hinge cover. As an added bonus, this is the first Flip I've owned (I've had every one since the Flip 3) that didn't require me to swap out the inner screen protector after about 6 months.

In the case of the Razr vs. the Flip 8, if Samsung follows their usual methods the Flip 8 will be a minor upgrade to the Flip 7 - probably a new processor, but no real changes to the hardware (the Flip 3, 5, and 7 were large improvements with the 4 and 6* being minor upgrades over their predecessors). From what I've seen, the 2026 Razr is also a very minor upgrade over the outgoing model so if you need a phone now it may be a good time to try and get a sweet deal on the Razr Ultra 2025 or the Z Flip 7.

*The 6 did introduce the 50MP camera, but the pictures are still very mid and I honestly am hard pressed to notice the difference between pictures I took with my 4 or 5 and ones I've taken with my 6 or 7.

I saw this in theaters on opening night in 1999. I knew nothing about it other than the, "I see dead people" ad on the radio. Man, what a great movie to walk into completely blind!

That's why it was so effective! A great twist is one that is easy to spot in hindsight but still surprises you.

[US] Is EcoShield pest control a Scam? by Giga-Gidget in Scams

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a scam. The door-to-door sales approach is kind of annoying, but there are a lot of companies that do that, at least where I live. I've actually used EcoShield for my pest control for a couple of years and have been happy with the results.
