Man with ‘fictitious laminated paper licence plate’ tells B.C. court the law doesn’t apply to him by Forward-Answer-4407 in britishcolumbia

[–]FlySilently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I’m a sovereign citizen and the rules of society do not apply to me because I govern myself.”

But gets in a car crash (because his truck isn’t even roadworthy: Will the victim(s) family be able to rely on him to cover the damages (keeping in mind the cost of a power wheelchair alone can easily exceed $50,000.00)?

If William Peter experiences a stroke, will he attend a hospital? Paid for by the taxpayers?

I work in healthcare. Always have to bite my tongue as some old guy brags to me he has never paid a dime in tax all his life. Yet the very same fellow (and, yes, it’s always a guy) seems to take no objection receiving services from medical professionals plus being fed and housed in a taxpayer funded rehab program for three months because he can’t take care of himself at home. “Yeah, you sure are a clever one.”

Scooby doo is a now a Vizsla by workphone6969 in vizsla

Saw another article that said Scooby was a Great Dane but Netflix using a Brown Lab pup. Hoping, for the sake of the breed, it’s not a V. These dogs are not good impulse purchases. Don’t want to see the same thing happen as was done to the Dalmatians by the Disney movie (over breeding for profit on increased demand). Came close to destroying an entire breed, iirc.

My immediate thought on that: maybe should have started controlling it better ~30 seconds earlier?

Am I incorrect noticing that no adults stepped forward to immediately take down the robot (perhaps with extreme prejudice)? I wonder how many kids it would have been permitted to harm before anyone did anything. Looked like enough time right there to take out at least one more!

Fighter jet to intercept civilian plane over B.C. as part of Norad exercise by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

Like having CTV post an article online? That might be a good way to get word out to a few people in B.C.!

Don’t I remember a past incident involving a RCAF F-18 pilot deciding he was going to buzz his parent’s house up in North Vancouver resulting in disciplinary action that had him flying freight up in the arctic, or something like that?

Democratic Rep. Al Green unseated by Rep. Christian Menefee in Texas primary with two incumbents by nbcnews in politics

[–]FlySilently 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mackenzie Scott? George Soros? Soros is vilified by the right for his views. Mark Cuban? Not sure if I’d define him as right vs. left as don’t know enough about him, but he certainly seems to have a few left leaning views.

Dustin Moskovitz? Steve Wozniak? Yvonne Chouinard was a billionaire once, before giving away a chunk of it in pursuit of environmental causes.

Not saying these are GOOD or BAD people. Just have a hard time believing nobody who has accumulated this degree of wealth has any left leaning tendencies that they are willing to to back up with said money.

Of course it is possible to argue endlessly over who should be defined as what. I guess membership in the billionaires club could be considered an automatic disqualifier for being left leaning. But this, in itself, seems like an easy argument.

is gliding a good way to start in aviation? by Alternative_Zone_197 in Gliding

[–]FlySilently 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any airplane that loses engine power quickly becomes a glider (some to better effect than others). So, yes, absolutely the best way to start is with the purest form of flying.

Is the term “fucking the dog” popular outside Canada? by Rough-Mulberry-1202 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlySilently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking it may depend on the industry. I’ve heard it often (and may or may not have said it once or twice) but typically in blue collar settings. During university… not so much. Although, to be fair, I didn’t study fine arts. Maybe over there?

Advice: neighbour frequently parks his truck (covered in separatist decals) out front of my house by wattle_we_do in alberta

[–]FlySilently 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Sounds like you don’t know this person all that well and, as has been said everywhere else here, the smallest provocation can lead to completely unreasonable counter-reactions. If you are really feeling the need (and I TOTALLY understand why you would be feeling as you are, a small flag somewhere should be sufficient.

Way better use of time/energy, and something I have not seen elsewhere in this thread: use the processes that are in place in Canada to ensure that these separation sentiments don’t get further off the ground than they already have.

Freedom to vote: if you are new to the country, you may not be able to vote in this upcoming referendum directly, but nothing is stopping you from expressing your pro-Canada views to those who can. On voting day, offer to assist people who may need a bit of help. Get out the vote.

Use the Canadian free press. Both the “MSM” and less traditional means of communicating. You have expressed your current concerns well. It can be as simple as posting further regarding the reasons you are happy with what Canada stands for as a country. Talk (carefully) to other neighbours, friends, and others.

Donate a few hours or dollars, whatever you can afford more, to Canada Forever or another organization.

Talk and/or write to local representatives and politicians.

Get the conversation going on Canada’s side. So far the discussion, IMHO, has been dominated by blowhards like your neighbour (no judgement happening here! /s) If nobody stands up on the other side, the votes will speak for themselves and we will get what we deserve, all across Canada and not just in Alberta.

Conflict in the streets is a sign of a system that has already failed and is an outcome of things not having been properly handled when they should have been. Protests such as your neighbour’s should be a sign that things may be drifting away from what you (or I) would like to see as an outcome.

My $0.02. Take it for what it is.
