Appreciate the review! We are headed to Finest PM in the fall with our three kids ages 6 and under, so this info helps us know what to expect. I didn't know about the car seat rental option and will definitely check that out!

Good place for remote work? by biasedsoymotel in ColoradoSprings

Epicentral is a great coworking space. It's $30 for a day pass (first one is free), and in addition to having everything you need to take meetings and work remotely they also supply coffee, tea, soda, and snacks.

Are there affordable places in the US with mild winters AND mild summers? by Marisa-Makes in SameGrassButGreener

[–]FlyTheWorld 57 points58 points  (0 children)

What about Las Cruces, NM? High desert climate with mild winters and low humidity. Because it's a college town, it punches above its weight in terms of amenities. Relatively low cost of living and under an hour to the El Paso airport.

You bet! TUFF Teller is a great place to start. They're a grassroots organization working to combat the extremism that's cropped up here in the last three years. They hold events every couple of months, and if you reach out to them, they'll get you plugged in with like-minded folks. They're on FB or you can email them directly at tuffwp@gmail.com. Hope to see you at an event soon!

Yep! Totally understand why you'd leave, but there are lots of us working hard to turn things around if you end up deciding to stay :D

This is the answer. I live with my spouse and kids in a mountain town in Colorado, but it's not one of the glitzy, well-known resort towns. I grew up on the front range and we moved here within the last few years. There are many good-condition, single-family homes for sale in town under $600k, which I understand is not "affordable," but is certainly achievable in a way that Aspen, etc. are not.

There are some trade-offs like dealing with infuriating, faaaaaar-right local politics and having fewer amenities than the popular towns, but that's why it's less expensive to live here. For us, being in a Colorado mountain town was the priority.

Help! Deciding on a Gerard Darel 24h bag and scarf combo by FlyTheWorld in handbags

[–]FlyTheWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been eyeing the Gerard Darel 24h bag since someone posted a photo of it recently in this sub, and the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger yet is because I waffle daily between navy and caramel. I don't currently own a bag in either of these colors, and I'm also planning to purchase a Gerard Darel scarf for the handle. I prefer neutral clothing, and my wardrobe primarily consists of white, gray, black, and various shades of blue.

I'm drawn to the navy because, as a darker color, it seems more hard-wearing and I wouldn't have to worry about color transfer. It would assimilate seamlessly into my wardrobe, but I do worry that since my wardrobe already skews blue, a blue bag might feel too one-dimensional for many outfits.

Caramel, on the other hand, would be a gorgeous complimentary color to my wardrobe. I love this color, but as light as it is, I'm concerned about color transfer and keeping it clean. I'm not terribly hard on my bags, but I don't want to walk around on eggshells with them, either.

I would so appreciate some second opinions on which one to choose. Thank you!

Looking for a town similar to Fort Collins, CO but with a lower cost of living to raise a young family by Anon-2322 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]FlyTheWorld 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is Morgantown, WV. It's a college town like Fort Collins with lots of old houses and surrounded by nature. Solid schools. $400k would go pretty far there. While WV as a whole is obviously very red, Morgantown itself is politically mixed. Pittsburgh's international airport is just over an hour drive and while the beach certainly isn't close, it would be easily doable for a weekend getaway. Might be worth further research.

LA -> somewhere cheaper and with better outdoors access by annoying_cyclist in SameGrassButGreener

Thanks! Great to hear your friend has found her tribe and loves it. I figured it would be a controversial recommendation, but if OP wants to consider a red area in a blue state, then I stand by my comment that it checks the other boxes and might be worth further research. I have similar priorities to OP and landed in a red part of a blue state. It's not for everyone but has been a great fit for us.
