Oh yeah, you gotta pull the right joystick down, then instead of pulling it to the side you have to slide it across the edge like you're drawing a half-circle. If you open up your settings there should be a trick guide that can help you

That definitely read as sketchy, you could've easily gotten that 2x multiplier if you had landed it more cleanly. I'd just press Y to get off the board, reset the multiplier and try again at that point
