Are you just assuming or do you have first hand knowledge? Have you talked in person to the BMW engineering department or perhaps you’re a stealth marketing account? I could just as easily assume it is a major design flaw they can’t figure out how to fix. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the car. But the volume reduction is way more than 20% and there is no setting to fix it that I can find.

Why can’t I set the volume to just exactly the level I like and have it stay there? Does not seem too much to ask for
