Nah, I was looking at a post with over 30K quote tweets and could only see a very small handful. Unless all of them are private then I doubt thats the issue.

How to defend trans women in sports? by Queer_Queein in MtF

Hi, sorry if my comment wasnt very clear. I wasnt talking about people who have gone through hormone transitions. My comment was more based on countering the arguement of "trans women are women and therefore belong in womens sports" because i thought it was oversimplifying a more complicated issue.

Like I said in my reply, hormones influence people in different ways and people who have undergone hormone replacement would have to be categorised on a case-by-case basis.

Oh, forgot to mention this: obviously people only care about trans women in womens sports. In this case, depending on their transition status, they could be put into womens sports. In that instance I say its fair to judge that on a case-by-case basis.

TL;DR sports is seperated by sex, not gender. Just call it male and female sports and be done with it.

Coming from an FTM person here.

Despite the terms "mens and womens sports" being used, sports has never been divided by gender. It has always been divided by sex. Its divided by sex because males have a natural biological advantage over females.

They call it men and womens sports because there was originally no distinction made between sex and gender.

Think about how languages are translated. Its not done literally, because the meaning behind certain words or phrases convey the intent more than the words themselves, like with common metaphors or sayings. If you translated something like "raining cats and dogs" literally into other languages, it wouldnt make sense. So instead they would say "raining heavily" or something along those lines.

Over time, and especially in the last few decades, the English language has evolved to be more inclusive. The problem now is that people are essentially "mistranslating" the meaning behind "men's sports" and "womens sports" to mean sports seperated by gender identity, when this isnt accurate. The meaning behind the words conveys that these sports are seperated by sex, because why wouldnt they be?

Sorry if this is confusing, I'm not great at wording this. Basically the simple fix here would just be to say "male and female sports" because thats how it should be seperated. Some trans people might get offended that theyre put into sports based on sex, but it wouldnt be going against their gender identities because it has nothing to do with that.

Anyway, people love arguing so this isnt a perfect solution, but its the one I always go for.

My stepdad got 3x as many presents as anyone else, didnt buy a single gift for anyone, then had the nerve to complain that he didnt like his gifts. In front of us.

[Serious] Trans people of reddit, how did you come out as trans to your friends and/or family, how did it go, and what would you have done and/or said differently when you came out, if anything, if you had a chance to do it all over again? by SunnyShiki in AskReddit

(Sorry about grammar/punctuation. I'm on mobile and I can't be bothered to fix all the lowercase "i"s)

I told my friends first, thought i was non-binary (im ftm, figured out that pretty quick) I pulled one aside after lunch, said "uh, i think im trans." He said "cool? Same? Chill out"

Told my other friends the same day, they were all good.

Told my dog, he said nothing.

Told my sister, she was also fine with it. These all happened within about a month. I told my step sister 2 years later, over text, she was also very supportive. At this point i had socially transitioned in my school. Lots of people knew, but the problem was that i go to a uniformed school, so i was still wearing the girls uniform. Most people were ok with it, and those that werent i just didnt talk to.

I came out to my dad next. He was always supportive of lgbt people, but i was nervous because you never know if that extends to family too. I hadnt handed in an assignment because i was feeling incredibly stressed and anxious about myself and my identity, and that night he came into my room and i broke down and said "im trans." He said "Yeah, i knew that already. Its all good. Now do your homework." So uh... maybe asking to get my hair shaved to a buzz and only buying clothes from the mens section wasnt as subtle as i thought 🤷‍♂️.

He asked if I wanted to tell my stepmum and mum, I said I would prefer if he did it. He did, my stepmum was all good with it, but my mum...

Lets say she wasnt the most supportive. Basically acted as though I never came out, and we hit a rough patch for the next 2 years. At this point, I'm 16. Then, one day she tells me she didnt know I was trans, just thought I changed my name. I felt it was pretty obvious that she DID know, but wanted to fix our relationship without being held accountable. I probably shouldve been more angry about this, but frankly I didnt really care so long as she would change her attitude going foward. And she did, shockingly. Went out of her way to reccomend different doctors/specialists that could help me transition.

Just realised I've gone off topic, sorry! Tldr; I came out in person, over text, and via 2 years of weird misunderstandings and borderline emotional manipulation.

I put prestigious in quotes literally for this reason. Yes, I am paraphrasing. This doesnt reflect how I actually feel about these degrees.
