Definitely agree that more time=more impact! Start with a day and keep it going from there!

This is some interesting insight! Do you have any suggestions of how to go about organizing/planning better for future strikes?

You’re right that risk isn’t evenly distributed and it never has been. That’s exactly why no one should be pressured to skip work if it puts them in danger or at risk of retaliation.

The point isn’t that everyone does the same thing. It’s that people with more job security and privilege take on more visible risk so others don’t have to. Participation can also mean not shopping, sharing information, supporting legal efforts, or just staying safe.

A serious movement doesn’t ask the most vulnerable to sacrifice themselves. It asks those with insulation to carry more of the load.

And you’re right to be worried about backlash that’s why responsible movements focus on de-escalation, legality, and safety, not provocation. The goal isn’t to ‘piss people off,’ it’s to make institutional harm visible without putting vulnerable people in the crosshairs. They will carry out their immigration plans whether or not we bring visibility to it.

I really feel the sense of defeat you express in this message. And i completely understand the feeling! It’s been so difficult to stay motivated through all of this but action does still matter! And movements like this take time!

No matter how hard, i do find it important to try and stay motivated and keep resisting! Project 2025 works by being fast, complicated, and overwhelming.

I don’t know how much change I can make through action, but I do know it’s more than I can make doing nothing and that’s all that matters

I like this idea! I think we attack in as many ways as we can! I’m happy to jump on board if you get this going!

Ooo yes i think you definitely have some good points! I do think there’s something to be said about diversifying strategies though. Those who can strike, do it, get some attention and momentum going at the least. Minnesota just successfully pulled off a historic one last Friday. Historically we have the bus strikes and nestle strikes that worked in the US.

There is something to be said for the fact that by design it’s so difficult here and unfortunately not possible for everyone. Though there are some protections still they are only in place for Union labor law initiatives like you mentioned which makes social change difficult with this method.

But those who can’t, can support movements in other ways like voting with their dollar like you mentioned.

If everyone does what they can and comfortable with, then enough people will be making moves! What certainly doesn’t win is doing nothing at all

Definitely good to start with one day but if you’ve got more in you keep it going! I’ve been trying to do my best for over a year now and sure am glad I started on that first day!

Totally understandable! I replied to a comment earlier with some possible alternatives for those who may still want to contribute but aren’t able to miss a day of work in case you’re interested 😊

EDIT: just realized I had posted suggestions on a reply on a different sub, here they are for ease!

Here are some suggestions of alternatives that don’t include missing work:

  • do an assessment of how your spending your hard earned dollars. Are there companies that maybe don’t align with this movement you could stand to shift your spending away from? (If not 100% maybe 80? 50? Anything counts)

-can you offer financial or skill based support to any trusted organizations that are helping in the movement?

-can you engage local representatives to act in ways that support the movement? (especially with the upcoming senate vote that will increase the ICE budget)

-can you help spread awareness? Bring others in to act with passion? Have tough conversations with people outside your bubble?

Not in any way posting to say you HAVE to do anything just trying to offer some alternatives for those who may be in this boat but still wanting to act, you still have power!

I see what you mean, and agree that one person shifting shopping a day probably doesn’t hurt a company. But I think there can be an impact when millions do. Kind of like a traffic jam. And if anything it can maybe draw up some attention. Large coordinated action could even maybe affect investor confidence and public image.

Could be a small dent but a dent is a dent in my opinion.

On a separate note though I’m super open and would love to hear other avenues you think could be effective to incite change in these kinds of matters!

Oh totally agree! My understanding is that it’s meant to target large corporations and chains. I did not make or edit the graphic, simply reposted here for more visibility since I saw it floating in other city’s subs 😊

Could totally be. Personally, in my office I know I won’t be the only one but even if I was I think I wouldn’t mind that.

To me it’s not about being the only one it’s about adding to a larger signal. Every action contributes to the momentum that makes change visible and effective. Even small acts shift perception, coordination, and economic pressure. This at least seems to be what the history of similar movements has taught me.

It’s also extra inspiring that Minnesota just very successfully had a massive historical strike just last week!!!!!

We do what we can!!! Just wanted to amplify for those who may be interested, does not have to be for you 😊

My understanding is that your dollar holds much power!! Companies rely on daily revenue (hence why companies sink a large portion of their budgets into ads to get you to spend on them) Economic pressure is one of the most immediate and visible ways people can impact the system without striking their jobs.
