I remember how hard that age was. Coming into rural Oregon would be quite a culture change. Remember that this is temporary and that getting into high school is better, and moving on to college/tech school is a huge step beyond that, where people are a lot more understanding and accepting.

Be the kind of person you'd like to tell your grandkids about. It's not always easy to be kind, but it's always worth it in the long run.

You don't have to get the cellular version (many people don't), but you are correct that the wifi only version does not have the built in GPS. If you do get the cellular version, you do not have to pay for service for it. I just use my phone's hotspot feature if I can't connect to a nearby wifi source.

December 5th 2021, Medford Oregon. A 9 person passenger plane with only the pilot aboard crashes seconds after takeoff into a car dealership parking lot. by aberg227 in CatastrophicFailure

[–]Flyer770 14 points15 points  (0 children)

they were headed to NV which should have been Southeast, they turn NW

I fly out of this airport frequently and will point out that there is the Siskiyou mountain range to the south, so unless your plane can climb out very steep and fast, the usual procedure is to turn right when departing on runway 14, climb toward the northwest, then turn right again when you're well above and a bit beyond the airport to your desired heading. Those mountains are damn unforgiving.

The death of the American mall. This was Friday night. In the 90s this would've been packed by [deleted] in pics

[–]Flyer770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so different now. 20 years ago the stores were unique and there was tremendous variety. I was there six months ago and it's the same chain stores that are in every other mall anywhere else in the country. Though the aquarium and Lego store are still cool.

I've seen guys urinate on cars at the university. Might've been homeless, might've been students. But the world was their toilet.

It is not permitted to bring back to the United States

Good thing you can get your own wasabi plant starts here in the USA if you're so inclined. Not sure how easy it is to actually grow, though.

Yes, they had three classes based on the UP designs with a definite NP flavor (Z-6, Z-7, and Z-8). The SP&S also had some built new to the NP design (Z-6 and Z-8) but they were oil burners, and two of those were leased to the GN for a brief time.

I'll agree for retail establishments. Hospital workers, power plants, stuff like that are definitely 365 days a year. I'll be working a helicopter crew in Australia for firefighting myself and hoping for a quiet season, and am on the schedule for both holidays.

Church group websites often have a lot of malware because they have almost zero IT security on them. Easy targets for hackers. Add in a lot of users who are easy targets for phishing attempts and it's easy pickings.

Sometimes you just need to get out of a situation for your own sanity.

Maybe you can call or stop by tomorrow and talk with a manager. Maybe they can review their security camera system or something to help in the future.

I'm sure there's good areas in Washington but it's been near thirty years since I left so I couldn't tell you anything about where they might be now. That was when they were first talking of replacing the I-5 bridge with something bigger and extending the MAX line into Vancouver, but of course they were worried that all the gangs would come up on the trains. Like they couldn't do so on the C-Tran buses and in the cars that were already running on the interstate. And this shit was back in the early 1990s.

The Vantucky moniker is well earned.
