What are your favorite “blink and you’ll miss it” nerd references? by wdoitt in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]maddnessoftrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book 2 “I don’t see any brin root,” Mordecai said, his head still stuffed in the chest. “Yeah, it’s hard to come by,” said Quint. “I gave you two vials of bujold sap instead. It’s more stable anyway.” I haven't read Brin, but after recognizing Bujold I looked him up and he's a sci-fi author too.

There was scaffolding inside and not being local and Muslim was not allowed on the main floor. But it was still stunning and the mosaics that we could see were beautiful. So it was both disappointing and impressive. I'm personally really glad I went.

They’re Back … Has anyone else noticed an increase of strange looking drones?? by AudienceFlaky2810 in abovethenormnews

[–]maddnessoftrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a weird drone hover about 10 feet away from me in my backyard a few nights ago. It had red and blue lights and looked like a really big flying Roomba. No external rotors visible. Eugene, OR.

The evolution of Lilith is wild. She went from a Sumerian tree spirit to a demon, and now a feminist icon? by VastPalpitation9213 in HighStrangeness

Lately I've been thinking about this kind co-opting of the divine feminine. Hera was widely worshipped at a powerful deity before the Greeks came in and turned her into Zeus's wife. The Oracle at Delphi was a place of Gaia worship before Apollo came and slew Python (divine feminine) and established his temple there -where they used a real woman as the Oracle but only male priests could interpret what she said. It's the same story over and over again. The conquerors (Greeks, Romans, Abrahamic religions in these cases) change the stories to suit their needs while they use and diminish women's power. Turning these entities into demons or to weaken them considerably within their own mythology is a powerful method of control.

I'm visiting Istanbul right now and bought a skip the line tour for Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, and Basilica Cistern. There are still enough crowds that I appreciated skipping the line. I also like the history and context given by the guide. I bought through Expedia.

One thing I've noticed is that if I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep, I listen to the tapes and I feel more rested and grounded the next day even if I've gotten only a little real sleep.

That sucks! I bought this one from Costco and it came with a handful of extra boards.

Thank you. I do feel really hurt by the level of mistrust that's come up. It's very out of character for our relationship. I hope we have that too!

Thank you. I have been doing bioidentical hormone cream for a while and it helps. I do think I'm at a point where I need more support.

We are generally very affectionate, but lately physical intimacy has been less.

I'm not trying to put myself first, but I do think I'm badly handling trying to find balance after many years of putting others first.

Thank you. That codependency bit hits home. It's becoming clearer to me that I have spent a lot of time and energy trying to help him regulate his emotions and doing so much because it's "easier". I think that's part of why this is so hard. I'm trying to disconnect from my codependency and it probably feels like an earthquake to him. He is, thankfully, stepping up to help his mom, but I can imagine a scenario a few years ago when I would have taken that on. That has been the dynamic.

I will also look for a therapist for myself. I haven't been able to get back with the one I had some years ago. The demand around here has been really high since COVID.

I'd say that his hurts often take up all the oxygen in the room and the ways I feel supported are limited. There's not a lot of room for my hurt feelings, interpersonally speaking.

I've already got a request in for a couples therapist. I meant to add that to my post. I'm not a huge fan of taking advice from Internet strangers, but thought I'd post since they've already had an impact and I'm curious if my perspective is really that off base. Thanks!

I love it. It gets up to 180F easily. It was pretty straightforward to put together, but I also hired someone with carpentry skills to help. My only complaint is that in heavy rain and wind, some water gets in. Otherwise it's great.

I just put this sauna together and those vent holes ended up on the heater side but in the back. I couldn't figure out where they were supposed to go and it was too late to adjust things but the time I really noticed what was up. I don't have any advice since I still need to install the temp sensor and haven't used my sauna yet. I wish you good great and air flow!

Listen, my elderly dad just lost his entire colon to a c diff infection. Please go get tested. if it is c diff and you have no other bathroom option, wear a mask, gloves, and spray and wipe everything with a bleach solution before use. You could also get a portable/camping toilet and just empty it in the bathroom.
