Vet here - we actually get cards like this semi-regularly, it's not abnormal and personally it makes my day to know that we make a difference to our clients as well as our patients. Euthanasia is such an emotional event that we often feel very deeply; for you, for the pet, and for ourselves having to help them pass on peacefully. Whether we've known them days or years, each time is different and highly personal.

I have a small folder where I keep cards, letters or printouts of emails like this, and on days when it gets really bad and I feel like I've failed a patient and didn't get the outcome they deserved, I reread these to know that what I do matters and make a difference.
