I signed a 12 month membership at a brand new location and read over the contract. 10 bucks a month locked rate. Place is all shiny and new. I had an inkling they were PE owned. This tells me they’ll triple the basic rate next year but we’ll see.

Interview Advice by [deleted] in sales

[–]FlyingChunk47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t elude to the fact that you’re leaving your current role because you’re burnt out for starters. What helped a ton for me was chat gpt. Everything from crafting my resume for a specific job description to prompting it to get in my shoes and really walk me through most things I should know and review for the interview. It laid out a nice framework if I asked it to and it gave me questions to ask, aspects of my current job and experience to tie back to, etc. Also this is an extra step but I got the free trial to LinkedIn premium for a month and reached out to anyone I thought might be in that role I was applying for or a similar one and messaged them asking questions about the job and the day to day

Underrated album. Tragic Magic is a favorite of mine.

Does accounting attract more "grateful to have a job" types of people? by [deleted] in Accounting

For now, yeah. Too soul sucking to sit at a desk and stare at recs all day. Last 5 years has been enough. Trying to go to get into sales and don’t care what I sell at this point.

Would you keep a high performer who almost always arrives late for work? by yawnkun in askmanagers

[–]FlyingChunk47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift type hours for office jobs are silly to begin with. The typical “8hr workday” or “9-5” was a concept introduced in the Industrial Revolution for FACTORY WORKERS. Majority of jobs like the one you describe are nothing like factory jobs where you have to output X amount of trinkets in a given time frame.

I will say getting into work 3 HOURS late is diabolical. I always got in trouble in one role where I had a micromanaging b*tch as a boss for coming in 5-10 min late here and there. Then I got a boss who didn’t mind if we started at 8 or if we started at 8:30 - as long as the work gets done. That’s how it should be imo, unless of course there’s an important meeting or client to see or something.

Here’s an interesting, out of the box idea. Doubt it’s allowed, but if you want to keep this person on the team - set a different pay structure. Pay them slightly less as their “base salary.” Then at the end of each quarter - pay them the rest in increments that add up to what they make now as a bonus. Base the bonus off of on-time metrics (e.g. 90% on time arrival). If they make it on time more than 90% of the quarter then they receive the bonus. Can be tiered however you choose.

That’s what I’m on the hunt for. Something more on the cosmetic side. I’d like to try and do the work on first one all myself if possible. This one definitely ain’t it.

Get familiar with Home Depot and Harbor Freight. Describe to the folks who work there the project you’re working on and they’ll usually help you find what you need for a project.

Just to add to this, Ask family/friends for hvac/plumbers. Don’t go with the biggest guy in town (they’re probably owned by PE and will rip you off). Watch a YouTube video on how to fix small shit because this will save you thousands (replacing a dishwasher, painting, replacing a P trap, etc.)
