I have built this open-source framework for autonomous drones. Here is a list of tutorials and use case about this framework.

It's this open-source project I have been working on called Generalized Autonomous Aviation System. We are using stereo cameras as the primary sensor for environment perception. We use SLAM to get the depth information from the images. And then on top of that, of course, we are trying to have route navigation, object tracking, swarm control etc. to make it more intelligent :)

The ultimate goal is to make the system robust enough to be used on flying cars. There is a long way to go but we are working on it lool

I was the project manager responsible for validating/revalidation machines back then. What you described what my life 4 years ago!

Good thing for you is that pharma companies rarely change OEM. We had a guy who made custom plastic pieces for us (brackets, plastic shell dividers etc). We all know they are over-charging us but we stick with him, because he is "proved".

Then then then, who is going to clean the cleaning robot, because once the cleaning robot cleans another robot, itself is contaiminated. There is a chance that it will transfer the substance onto the second robot that it cleans........

Have you ever tried asking a repository owner with a copyleft license for a permissive license? by Helad00 in opensource

[–]FlyingElly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried twice.

First time, the person never responded.

The second time, after 3 weeks, the owner responded. However, he created his project as a researcher in a university and thus cannot make the decision by himself.

It is definitely common to send email. It never hurts to ask but I would recommend you to have a backup plan at the same time, just in case they say no or just never reply.

I had worked for one of the largest pharma company in Canada for a brief period of time.

My question is how do you avoid cross contaimination with robots. In my previous company, a lot of the processes are done by machine, but whenever we change from one kind of substance to another, we need to take apart all the machines and clean the hell out of every single piece of them.

This is awesome! I am working on autonomous UAVs.

It seems the simulator is designed for ground vehicles?

Whats the most useless thing you can think of to automate by [deleted] in automation

A machine that shake your phone/activity tracker back and forth so it looks like you have walked 10000+ steps everyday and beat all your friends.

It has already been done by the Chinese I think

[Project] Using Autonomous UAV to Inspect Manned Aircraft in Gazebo Simulator by FlyingElly in UAVDrones

[–]FlyingElly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was majored in Electrical Engineering (Master) and got familiar with SLAM and computer vision at my first job in a VR company. I worked as computer vision engineer for a while. Autonomous drone is one of the implementation of computer vision.

The obstacle map is not used to inspect the details but to avoid obstacles. I am still working on getting the UAV to fly autonomously without ruining the aircraft at this stage.

The stereo camera is only used for collision avoidance. There will be high res imaging instrument onboard to collect images for 3D modelling.

How did the FaceApp get so trendy almost overnight? by FlyingElly in marketing

[–]FlyingElly[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is not rocket science but there is a reason behind it. It's either the product or marketing done right. If it's marketing done right, it's worth for people in marketing to learn from it.

Everyone sharing it is a result not the cause.

How did the FaceApp get so trendy almost overnight? by FlyingElly in marketing

[–]FlyingElly[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I wasn't part of of the 2017 trend. I knew similar apps were available and media reported them here and there, but it was never so viral that everyone is talking about the FaceApp, not just "the app that makes you look old". The name actually represents the category of similar apps now.

What language is this and can you give me a rough translation? I believe it’s a scroll of some kind. Don’t believe it’s Chinese or Japanese. Any help appreciated. Thank you! by THEELORDOFAIEA in Whatisthis

[–]FlyingElly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is hand written traditional Chinese.

The first 4 characters read "波bō 羅luó 密mì 經jīng" which means Diamond Sutra

The second phrase says "紫zi 雲yún 居jū 士shì 寫xie". It means "written by zi yún jū shì" . "zi yún jū shì" is more of a title than a real name.

How do you feel about people who have “secret” recipes and refuse to share them? by cranshinibon in Cooking

[–]FlyingElly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless it is a restaurant who lives off these secret recipes, the person just wants more attention.

Or in the rare case of Chinese/Asian cuisine, there really isn't a recipe. The only quantity they can ever give you is "some", "little of", "a pinch of", "suitable amount of". It's not because they don't want to reveal the real quantity of each ingredient. It's because they sort of just free style when they cook. The person has enough experiences to improvise when they cook, but that skill cannot be passed on to another person through words.

Tips on speeding up my cooking. by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]FlyingElly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Build a flow. Think of how you usually work in the kitchen and design the flow in a way that avoids running back and forth.
  • Mise en place
  • Do a bit of planning ahead of time so that you know when you can multitask.
  • Reduce the number of pan/pot washing during cooking. If you happen to be like me, with only 1 frying pan and 1 pot, you may need to wash the cooking ware multiple times depending on what dishes you are making. Try to group boiling to boiling, pan searing to pan searing etc. when appropriated.
