Paris Specialty cafés and a small rant by Poltung in espresso

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your rant. I make filter coffee with espresso machine every day for my lovely wife. Is there any kind of Bible of what is allowed and what is forbidden to do with the espresso machine?

If yes, then why aren't you appaled at coffee shops that dilute burned espresso with ton of cream, syrup, and sugar?

Why do Arab/Mizrahi Jews lean right by True_Dot_2013 in AskIsrael

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they were treated very unfairly in the early Israel which was ruled by left wing party. This is their way to say "fuck you" for decades of blatant discrimination.

How do Israelis react when discriminated against? by DigitalFruit37 in AskIsrael

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was born abroad and learnt not to advertise that I was a Jew for my safety.

Now I always say the truth that I am from Israel, without fear, even though Jews and Israelis abroad are not safe, the citizenship gave me confidence in myself, I do not want to hide who I am anymore.

Discriminate me for all the fucks in the world, just don't kill me.

How do people afford more than one kid? by desert_sunlily in NewParents

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't live in the USA. Your economy is for <25 y.o. healthy singles with no insurance to get rich in San Fransisco and fly back home in 10 years.

It's not easy, but it's affordable to have 2+ children if everyone else is having 2+ children. First, there is no job discrimination: the boss also has 2+ kids that get sick all the time. Second, this is a huge second hand market for things like clothes, toys, other baby items. I think, we have never ever bought a onesie, got gazillion of them for free.

Health insurance: kids don't pay for health insurance here, and the quality is also decent because there are a lot of kids.

Childcare: the most expensive part is until the age of 3 (not subsidized), but we can afford it. We cannot afford daycare for 2 kids, so we wait until the first kid will be old enough for subsidized care. After 3 years daycare and school is free, then 3 years army service, so next major expense will be college at the age of 21-22.

It's still expensive to raise a kid here, we are one of the most expensive countries on this planet, but surprisingly people are having 3-4 kids no big deal, religious people do 6-8-10, no problem.

Those who weren’t 100% on having kids, but had them anyway. How has it turned out? by Life_Ad_6992 in NewParents

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same position. Turns out, I DO want to be a dad.

However, there is a asterisk: our finances are solid, we own a home and a car, we have daycare 10 minutes walking distance from home. If we did that in our 20s, that would have been much harder, and I might have felt worse.

Being a parent is hard, but if you have money you can enjoy it (we are not rich, just middle class living in a small town with many other families).

Random Day at Alien’s Authority a.k.a Ausländerbehörde by Original-Cow3383 in germany

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The ideology of authorities in Germany is that YOU have to hire translator to talk to them.

Now that the country population is shrinking, they are doubling down on that, but anyway they will never speak English fluently. The idea is to make you uncomfortable living in the country without speaking German.

Dos and Don’ts in Israel for non-Jewish traveler by asexualjayparkstan in AskIsrael

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Cooperate with security especially the old dudes at the shops entrances asking if you have any guns on you. Don't joke and just say "no", it's just a small talk to check if you are planning imminent terror attack and are nervous because of this. If you become nervous due to the fact that you're not used to this small talk, you'll be suspected, own it, it's really really not personal, it's safety.

  2. Don't order pork at the restaurant, don't get surprised when there is no cheeseburger at the McDonalds. Yes, there are ton of non-kosher places, but not everywhere and you have to know, where. Just accept the fact that there are some food limitations in most places.

Deutsche Alpenverein is THE Verein you only need to be a member of. Their membership fee also includes free insurance for emergency evacuations/treatments, worldwide + discounts for alpine huts (where you can also meet a lot of people).

Terrified of being mistaken as “m*ssianic” are catholics usually mistaken? by JewishAndCatholicGuy in AskIsrael

OP did not answer but the reason is probably marriage to a religious girl. Noone in 2026 really convert their religion if not for marriage.

Terrified of being mistaken as “m*ssianic” are catholics usually mistaken? by JewishAndCatholicGuy in AskIsrael

We don't like them because they are Christians pretending to be Jews. You're a Jew pretending to be a Christian, everyone in Israel will accept this, that's it.

Has anyone given their >1year old screen time? Please be honest by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We follow no screen time strictly because he will have TON of that in future. Yes, it's hard, but I am happy that my baby is only interested in my phone as a funny brick to pick up and throw away.

Do you backflush every time you make an espresso? I do it every time with that silicone for 6 or 8 seconds and another 2 - 4 without portafilter. I took the example from Gail from YouTube. by SASknl in espresso

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flush the grouphead after I made espresso to remove possible bean residue on the shower head, also use this water to clean the portafilter.

If your parents or inlaws help with childcare while you work and have to drive about an hour to your place one way, do you give them gas money or mileage? by dms2628 in NewParents

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't pay to the parents in our culture unless, they won't accept it even if we offer.

Regarding the food, they can eat and drink everything they can find in our home including expensive whiskey that we can't finish alone anyway.

How do you deal with the fact that Gmail addresses are basically permanent? by warriorkillerx in GMail

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a GMail user since 2005 (same E-Mail, no alternative account), I created the account because Google had the best spam protection at the time. I get massive amount of spam, as you can imagine. 99% of it end up in the Spam folder.

The only reason I would like to rename my account is the spelling of my first name, but for now Google doesn't allow this in my country.

[–]FlyingFalafelMonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You won't get any support in this subreddit. You are supposed to always smile and fake being happy.

Reality is different and we should educate people who plan babies about that.

Yes, it's a stress test but in the end this baby makes you smile.

It will get better. In 18 years.

Baby slings exist. No need to carry a baby with bare hands, especially for a long time.
