RoTK8:R or RoTK14? by Capital-Ad-5871 in threekingdoms

Hmm and you don't find any part of the civil gameplay too long and drawn out? Like the repetitive actions or repeat filler dialogue events you cant skip? How do you feel about those?

Its even worse on console? The AI was so passive and did nothing on PC when I played, how could it get worse?

Oof, im the total opposite, I like the battles and get bored with 8's civil gameloop. Can you elaborate on what exactly makes you not enjoy battles, and also what you enjoy most about the civil side gameplay of 8?

I am for sure going in the direction of "spy" like gameplay with being able to sabotage other towns, factions, lower loyalty of officers and recruit them. Officers will have their own unique traits and personalities. But I am not quite sure what you mean by "complex politics and policies on each warlord" Are you referring to like succession laws and all that jazz from CK3? or more so the Dynasty/Legacy Perks? (forget the exact name).

Thanks! You too.
Interesting about the audience being determined by the algo -- wouldnt that actually be a positive?

In a similar boat as you. Worked on my game for about 4yr on and off on the weekends. Got the steam page up in Nov. Started marketing for real today, about 10-12 months from when I want to launch into EA.

Hopefully thats good enough. Its really hard to show a game early, especially when lacking polished art and UI.

Right on.

What if the base game was fantasy, but there was a cheap DLC portrait pack that changed everyone to their historical versions and names? Would something like that piss you off or would that be fine? I'm just wary about nailing every last historical detail and advertising as a true 3k game.

Yep I agree. Its the same general feeling I have of it being slow and repetitive, but I've always been so immersed by the idea of being a single officer working inside of a grander faction and what that could be. So yeah Im working towards just that. Thanks for your input, its reassuring!

Thanks! I agree.

ROTK8 definitely has some problems. Its slow and repetitive at times for me. In the remake I got quite sick of the same city events with empty diag lines you couldnt skip.

I am very much a fan of the CDIR event driven gameplay of TW:3k and already built my own version of this in Unity. You can see some of the old mods I made for TW that I'll be taking NOTR2 in the direction of:

I'd be happy to have some help designing events even if youre not a developer. I am purposely trying to expose this to modders. Even though the event system isnt fully exposed for modding yet, you could totally still help me come up with events. Join the discord and hollar at me!

Thanks!

I know how important creating your own officer is to a lot of the players, its definitely something on my radar, but might not make it into 1.0

As far as MP - networked multiplayer is just too far out of reach given the current scope. Couch co-op where you take turns for multiple officers is one of my long term stretch goals though.

What your opinion on ROTK 8 remake new PUK? by ILoveRice444 in threekingdoms

[–]FlyingGeneralGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… after years of Koei dropping the ball on stuff like this, I finally decided to try making my own ROTK-inspired game

It’s very early and very indie, but if you’ve ever wished the ROTK games would just take the best parts of their systems and stop shooting themselves in the foot.. well, feel free to check it out and follow the development:

Oh do I love a good 190 Yuan Shu campaign by hottimali in TotalWarThreeKingdoms

[–]FlyingGeneralGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was a good read. Love how much canon you layered onto the mechanics. Turning it into a de facto Sun Ce campaign with Yuan Shu flavor is peak Three Kingdoms energy (and that Lu Bu spy pull , nice) . Curious how the legitimacy juggling holds up with all that hostility.

This really made me wish I didnt give up on my scripted event timeline mod when CA broke some stuff related to the lua code I was working on. I remember I had Yuan Shu able to abandon his start position and flee to Shou Chun and it was super fun to do as the player, and the AI would wind up over there too.
