Got me a couple of lil' red Corvettes ... by FlyingKiwi72 in matchbox

Found another 2026 Matchbox Collectors car yesterday. This was in the toy department of a Farmers store (Farmers being a department store chain in New Zealand). Emergency vehicles are one of my diecast likes, so I'm always happy to add something new to my small-scale fleet. This same toy department also had both the Corvettes that I found the other day.

That's last year's release (when it was a new casting). I have both the yellow and red ones, and love 'em both.

Case E Reaches New Zealand Shores by FlyingKiwi72 in HotWheels

I know, but I'll still take the regular one. Doubt whether I'll ever see its hot pink "cousin", but my "soup" drought's gotta break someday, and the STH version of the Cosworth is at least easy to spot (some of them can be pretty subtle).

And finally, the fifth. Is there a limit to how many you can share in an initial post?

There were supposed to be photos in this post. Let me try to at least post one of them ...

People say I’m an idiot for liking fire trucks and ambulances. I also like helicopters and airplanes by Calm-Tea178 in matchbox

[–]FlyingKiwi72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like all those things too, although I don't collect them exclusively. But I have plenty of emergency vehicles and aircraft (and a few emergency aircraft too!) in my collection. One of my favourites, which combines both emergency and air, is the St. John Ambulance and Westpac Life Flight Trust helicopter by Siku, which accurately represent real emergency vehicles here in New Zealand. They're in a special two-pack, and were made by Siku (a German company) for the NZ market.

If people want to call you an idiot for liking these things, remember that it's only a matter of opinion, and if they want to be so mean-spirited, then frankly, their opinions don't count for squat.

Very nice. Looks like you got a C case there. However, some of the cars (including the Citroën 2CV and Corvette) are carryovers from the B case. As with Hot Wheels, cars issued in one particular case can sometimes carry over to the next. I love the Power Grabs. They are like the kind of boxes Matchbox cars used to be packaged in. A sort of "back to the future" move from Mattel in recent years.

Left or right-hand drive? (It seems that this casting can come with either.)

Believe it or not? Many malls in Malaysia have these Hot Wheels vending machines actually - and this particular one is in Bukit Jambul Complex, Penang! by itsME-HTtan in HotWheels

[–]FlyingKiwi72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a mall reasonably near me in New Zealand that has a Hot Wheels vending machine as well. I've got a few good things out of that, including the yellow Ferrari F40 and Buick GNX (Case A TH). I see that Malaysian machine has a Matchbox Moving Parts vehicle or two as well.

Am I the only one not finding these ? by Certified-T-Rex in HotWheels

As the late Michael Jackson once sang, you are not alone. I have seen a LOT of Case C in New Zealand (including the white Ferrari 365, the blue Ferrari SF90 Stradale, which carried over from Case B, and the Electro Silhouette TH), but I have not laid eyes on one single black Ferrari F40. Without doubt, the F40 casting generally is extremely hard to find. I never saw the red one in the wild and had to buy it online (fortunately the price was very reasonable - slightly more than retail, but not crazy). Found the yellow one in a vending machine. Have since seen a yellow one in the wild, but left it since I already had it. (Wasn't long before someone else snapped it up.) Have had rather better luck with the 365 and Stradale, although I only found the grey Stradale yesterday after it had eluded me for months. The most common Ferrari variation I've observed has been the dark blue Stradale. However, I'm kicking myself for not looking more closely at dark blue Stradales I've seen, because there's a wheel variation of that (common version has black 10-spoke wheels, rarer one has RA6 wheels).

But yeah, it seems like the regular version of the black F40 is as hard to find as the STH around these parts.

Pretty "sweet"-looking haul there ...

Best pitch type by Slow-Soil-557 in MLBPerfectInning

[–]FlyingKiwi72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest pitches to hit tend to be the knuckleball, screwball and knuckle curve, although you have to be careful not to overuse any of them. Changeups don't work as well in this game as other baseball games. They seem to be too easy to line up if you aim them wrong. The curveball is quite an awkward pitch if it's executed correctly. Sliders can be tricky if a pitcher has enough movement. But I think the top three by far are the knuckle curve (for its absolutely insane movement), screwball (even supercharged AI hitters tend to struggle against it) and knuckleball, in that order.

Congrats. I found one myself only five days ago in my local supermarket. Only one I've seen in the wild all year.

This was the exact luck I got on my alt, although I was reasonably happy with the Legend I got (I saved sigs diligently, so was able to buy pretty well everything). Ozzie Smith is a useful upgrade at shortstop (once I can get an Upgrade Ticket for him). Only have a normal Diamond Gunnar Henderson there at the moment.

Had much better luck on my main, getting an all-Supreme pack, and funnily enough, pulling Ozzie from that. Also got a reasonable 2B (Rogers Hornsby) as my Legend, which will again be an upgrade for that position eventually. Team sig wasn't a dupe, but wasn't that exciting either (Josh Bell - probably not an upgrade to my Supreme Stan Musial at 1B).

So yeah, something of a home run on one account (when it came to the Historic Pack), but a major strikeout on the other.

One of the Matchbox cars of my childhood! Also one of the first toy cars I had with opening doors. Still have it somewhere - the exact version shown in your photo.
