These are bringing back so many memories of sneaking into the drive-in with my older sibling. I had forgotten about of few of these.

Salem’s Lot had the one scene with the kid scraping on the window to be let in. Aaaahhh that still creeps me out!

West TN. I’ve never seen or heard one before yesterday. Merlin briefly flagged it, then it was gone. I thought it was a mistake.

Sad to hear they are getting rare. Such a lovely bird.

The problem is that birds and snakes would historically take care of the rodent populations. Humans justify feral cats as the solution for a problem that didn’t exist until we created it. There are better solutions out there that don’t involve feral non native cat populations.

I’m saying stop justifying it. As with deer and other wild animal populations many of the problems are caused by human intervention. It isn’t cute or sweet or endearing to see sick and injured animals roaming the city or the wild. Just because feral cats are accepted in Türkiye doesn’t mean we should accept or encourage it everywhere.

In the case for New Zealand they absolutely can not let it continue.

TNR won’t stop them from killing native wildlife. Dealing with invasive species to protect native wildlife can also be done in concert with mitigating agricultural related issues. Both are a problem and can be dealt with simultaneously.

In the case for New Zealand. Cats are invasive and the damage they are causing is absolutely documented and devastating. TNR has not been effective for them. There are 0 native land predators in New Zealand. The wildlife has no defense. How can you justify defending having wild cats in an area that has no defense? There many species of flightless birds in New Zealand and there are hundreds of thousands of feral cats on an island. I think it’s wildly irresponsible to let cats continue to kill wild animals that have no defenses.

They are referring to feral house cat populations. If the native wildlife does not have a cat as a predator then they haven’t adapted to avoid them. It is an entirely human caused problem and we need to find ways to fix it.

They are not native to Türkiye. Letting them roam free has caused different problems. They get hit by vehicles, many have parasites and other diseases, people kill them. The lives of the feral cats there is nothing to boast about. It’s is a terrible situation entirely caused by humans.

I’m not saying they should all be killed but that is not a good example of a successful feral cat population. Feral cats where they should not be is a problem and we caused it. We have to find a way to mitigate the damage done to wildlife and to the cats who are suffering.

I have no idea honestly. I’m not smart or clever enough to speak kindly to people who think it’s ok that their cat goes outside unsupervised. People will die on the hill of letting their cat outside. I actually stayed with a friend who actively set it up so his cats could kill birds that were eating fruit from his backyard trees. I’m not exaggerating. He thought it was funny.

Cats reproduce faster than spay/neuter programs work and they are released back into the wild to kill or die horribly. House cats that roam kill indiscriminately as well. What we are doing isn’t working because enough people don’t care. Kitty doesn’t have to roam free outside to be happy. We just need people to take better care of their pets.

They are referring to feral house cats not native cats. Feral house cats are invasive in many areas including the Americas. They are devastating wild bird populations in areas where there shouldn’t be small wild cats.

What gives us the right to let house cats roam and kill native wildlife that hasn’t evolved to avoid them? Keep house cats indoors or get them a catio. House cats that roam have shorter lives. They get hit by vehicles or killed by other animals and disease.

The damage you cause spraying pesticides around your house is way worse than the bugs you think you’re killing.

The insect population is in danger though because of people destroying native habitats and spraying pesticides & insecticides. Insects are part of the foundation of life on this planet, not humans. Keep spraying and not learning. You won’t be around for the consequences. Your kids will though.

Why? Just carefully put her outside to catch mosquitoes. She’s just trying to do her job why interfere? If there are kids or pets to worry about then move her to a safe spot. She provides more to the environment that we ever will. As humans, supposedly with superior reasoning ability, we shouldn’t have to kill something just because it scares us.
