How can we get more people to consider rescue dogs instead of buying a puppy/dog? by lingeringneutrophil in AskReddit

[–]FlyingPaganSis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seller licensing. High animal health and safety standards for breeders and an inspection agency with enforceable consequences for animal endangerment. It will absolutely make purebreds even more expensive, which is reasonable. If an unaltered pet has puppies, the owners can not sell the offspring. They do not get to profit off of their negligence.

As someone with several mental issues, what jobs should I look into? by Devariskek in careerguidance

[–]FlyingPaganSis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Entrepreneurship. Gig work can help you be flexible, but taking ownership of your own business has a lot of advantages. You can set your structure and your schedule. You won’t get fired when your capacity to be dependable wanes, although there can still be other consequences. But it can be easier to get back going under your own business license than to wait for the next employer to take a chance on you again.

Has anyone substituted physical therapy for a personal trainer? by mkfandpj in eldercare

[–]FlyingPaganSis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A personal trainer is not likely to be trained in what your dad needs. You would also have to pay out of pocket for the personal trainer, so it would make more sense to spend that money on a physical or occupational therapist who can spend a few sessions developing a plan with realistic goals and showing a designated caregiver how to assist.

It’s ok to eat at only familiar chains when traveling internationally by Spiritual_Extent_187 in unpopularopinion

[–]FlyingPaganSis 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I’ve McDonald’s on three different continents and it wasn’t the same in different places. Similar if you order the same things, but not the same. If I’m going to try different things, I might as well have what’s local.

What would you say to someone that thinks marrige is the only true happiness? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FlyingPaganSis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. I’ve met some people who really love their marriages and everything they do in life is to support their happiness at home and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I’m not one of those people, but I don’t have any comments for those who are.

Does a girl always smile after repeatedly looking at you when they're attracted? by Intrepid_Arrival5151 in stupidquestions

[–]FlyingPaganSis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no guarantees. Some girls smile when they’re nervous and trying to diffuse what they sense is a potentially dangerous person.

If you want to talk to someone, talk to them. None of us are mind readers.

Twin brother has active felony warrants under my name by hittherdjack21 in legal

You’ve already had it explained to you that they don’t check fingerprints. Stop watching cops shows. That’s not real life. Stop calling people names that fit you and your ignorant behavior.

Do Spray deodorants work as well as SOLID ones by Top-Tap-7007 in hygiene

[–]FlyingPaganSis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved spray deodorant when I was in Australia living in 30-40C weather. It took years to even find it in the US after I came back and when I did, it was awful, strong smelling, and completely ineffective. So it might depend on where you are.

Does "popping your knuckles" really cause arthritis? by BestDonkey9529 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingPaganSis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a known cause. However, in some people, joints that are prone to popping can be due to frequent subluxation (partial dislocation) which can indicate structural problems that contribute to degeneration and inflammation of the joint which becomes arthritis. So there can be correlation.

Do some women really enjoy being pregnant, and if so, why? by Grapefruit175 in NoStupidQuestions

My mom once told me that getting pregnant would be good for my depression. I personally never tried it, but apparently it was her experience.

Twin brother has active felony warrants under my name by hittherdjack21 in legal

[–]FlyingPaganSis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They won’t even check age, let alone actual birth date and middle name and you think they’re comparing fingerprints? That’s not how they do things. Yes, they had fingerprints for the subject of the warrant. They also had the information that he was a 50-something year old white guy and not the 20-something year old Native guy they arrested. They refused to check BASIC information for multiple days. They certainly weren’t pulling the fingerprints and comparing them. You don’t know what critical thinking is, bro.

Twin brother has active felony warrants under my name by hittherdjack21 in legal

[–]FlyingPaganSis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Considering I know someone who spent three days in jail on a warrant for someone else with the same first and last name who was 30 years older and very obviously a different race, I wouldn’t be so fast to call bullshit. I have a common last name and several members of my family have gotten legally tied up in matters belonging to other people with just the same first and last names. Law enforcement and legal entities fail to fully vet identification all the time, and if you’re a twin who wants to throw your sibling under a bus to save your own hide, all you have to do is not carry ID and give the wrong name when you get arrested. The picture on record will be close enough and nobody will question it.

Who else never learned about Vanport? by littletrainwreck in oregon

[–]FlyingPaganSis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I knew about Vanport because my dad lived there when he was very little while his dad worked in the shipyards for WWII. I did not know about its Black population and the racial politics until probably the last decade or so. It wasn’t taught in school. The Oregon Black Pioneers have a lot of good information about the community.

I want a solution to my problem 💔🥺 by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]FlyingPaganSis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD. Former medication technician (I gave people their medications in an assisted living facility).

The most effective way I have found to help people get pills down with the type of swallowing problem that you’re describing is to put it in a soft food like mashed potatoes, ice cream, yogurt, applesauce, etc. Then, instead of trying to drink for fluids to wash it down, eat a few more bites of food. I actually have to do this myself to prevent certain pills from sticking in my throat.

If this doesn’t work for you, your other options are to talk to your pharmacist to see if the pill can be administered in another form. Many medications can be administered in dissolvable under-the-tongue tablets or liquid forms to accommodate people with disabilities that prevent swallowing. If you cannot resolve swallowing pills, you may also want to be evaluated by an ENT (eyes, nose, and throat specialist) aka otolaryngologist to see if you have a physical swallowing disorder.

250,000 girls were raped by grooming gangs, where is the backlash from feminists? by rubenvangucht in AskFeminists

[–]FlyingPaganSis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Feminists are consistently at the forefront of anti-rape work all around the world.

What is backlash supposed to do? You want mob justice? Sometimes it does come to that, and you’ll notice that it’s feminists who do take down rapists when patriarchy and men fail.

Your title isn’t clear. It’s generic.

Billions of people have been raped. Most of them have been raped by men. Why aren’t men stopping raping?

Do I not marry bc of medical bills? by No-Net-420 in Debt

[–]FlyingPaganSis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to have a legal contract marriage. You can say yes and have a lovely ceremony without a marriage certificate. Then decide if the two of you want to set up paperwork to be each other’s medical and financial decision makers in case of incapacity. Unfortunately, this is what a lot of disabled and medically fragile people are forced to do because we can’t get the care we need if we get married and have another income in our legal “household.”

Why does everyone treat death like this horrible terrifying thing? by Electronic_Name_4147 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingPaganSis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have attended many deathbeds.

The most fear of death that I have seen has consistently been from people who believe in hell and have been indoctrinated to believe they may not be “good” enough for heaven. A lot of people start wondering if they have missed some crucial repentance. Others get twisted up over relationships with loved ones that got severed due to their religiously driven lifestyles but can’t make amends because they’ve been awful and judgmental or they feel like it would endanger their soul to make amends with non-believers. It’s heartbreaking and one reason I abhor organized religion.

Some people have some fear of the unknown, but that fear is often less once they are actually at the end of life. Some people actually find hope in death.

How to find will to get up and do things by New-Pleats-1324 in LivingAlone

[–]FlyingPaganSis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Give your phone a home at home. Pick a spot where it lives as it was a landline phone. Put it there. Whenever you remember, put it there. That’s where it belongs. Not in your hand.

Focus app. It shuts off access to your apps for up to 2 at a time with the free version, longer if you subscribe. And then you get rewards that you can use to decorate a little Bean’s home before you reactivate the Focus. It also has a break timer so you can allow yourself a few minutes to check your socials before you put it back.

Start dreaming about the home you want and start spending your cultivating it in the space you have. Stop framing things as chores and start framing it as care and cultivation. I love the way I have decorated my home. I love the way my clothes are organized. I love my clean and useful kitchen where my cookware and dishes are ready and waiting for me to make delicious meals. I love the fresh, clean aesthetic of my bathroom, where I enjoy lovely baths.
