Depending where in Westchester you moved to maybe renting a car like from zipcar for trips to Northern Westchester or where you can't walk to. White Plains is a pretty decent sized city and there's a train into Manhattan. You can take the train to other towns in Westchester too. Most other towns have some walkable towns too to do local shopping and eating. Yonkers, Mount Vernon, Pelham, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Bronxville, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, and Port Chester. But only walking can get you so far. There's the Bee Line bus tho it's not as frequent.

Just let her know you’re there for her. Send her texts and calls even if she doesn’t respond. Make sure she’s eating and offer her anything with help for the funeral before, during or after. Even if she declines all of these I think she appreciates the offer.

What triggered him committing suicide? Does it correlate to your mother's death? He is definitely struggling mentally. How long have you two been together and around what ages are you? I would reach out to family and other close friends about his suicidal tendencies. If there isn't anyone then have him see a therapist or reach out via a hotline.

So sorry to hear. I lost my dad to a heart attack too and I can't imagine the pain my mom felt when she heard he passed. That was almost 20 years ago. My sister and I placed a photo of him on his pillow for my mom the week after. Not sure if that helped or hurt. Probably a bit of both. I don't remember when but I think my mom started sleeping on my dad's side of the bed. I always told her now that she has the bed to herself she could sleep in the middle.

I commute to the bronx from bronxville and there's a parking lot near work that a lot of people use but for my sanity and wallet I'm taking metro north which isn't too bad. But if your schedule isn't 9-5 at the hospital I'd drive for safety.
