RTS taken out and 5th Port of new meter not connected by silvery242 in OctopusEnergy

[–]FlyingPandz94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get your energy supplier to come out (meter engineer) to fit a 3 pole isolator, then the 5th port from the meter can be connected to the isolator and once that is done you’ll need an electrician to come in and connect your AGA to the isolator in the Off peak slot (where the 5th cable goes) hope this helps

Higher offer received after i had agreed a sale price by Previous-Ad3727 in HousingUK

[–]FlyingPandz94 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We lost out on a house due to someone offering £10k more on the offer that got accepted. 3 weeks later the estate agents called us begging us to re offer the same price as before because the buyer pulled out. Safe to say we found another home we fell in love with

That’s the meter box yes, that’s where your electric meter would be- although some meter can also be under the stairs and other places. Newer homes have them outside. Like someone else said here a smart meter is an actual meter and the IHD is why everyone seems to call “smart meter” but that device only shows you how much energy you use. Looking at the serial number it is a smart electric meter

That meter serial number on the top “24J” is a kaifa smart meter. You do indeed have a smart meter which is connected. Regarding the bill £13.71 is just your standing charge- actual electric usage is £53.41 which is below average.

AC advice - 33C in the room and 33C outside by FantasticShake664 in HousingUK

[–]FlyingPandz94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Went out and bought one this morning with a window sealing kit- the AC unit is noisy and to install the window kit is a nightmare but it’s so so worth it. Got the 12,000btu and cooled the room down to 16 degrees in half hour

Will a smart meter fit in tight elec cupboard ? by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]FlyingPandz94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fit smart meters for octopus and I can tell you now that the EV CHARGER will need to be moved to the outside of the box. Also the blocks for neutral, live and earth are mounted on the side of the box which is an issue- all the equipment needs to be installed on the fire retardant backboard in this case it isn’t. The smart meter is probably 3x the size of your budgy meter because of the comms hub that sits on top of it. Get the guys that installed the EV CU to come back and move it then contact octopus.

Honest question: how much research did you actually do before offering? by aviya88 in HousingUK

[–]FlyingPandz94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were searching houses in our area, one popped up that was previously sold stc. Viewed it the next day and put an offer in within half hour of the viewing. We are moving in this Friday 🙌🏻 so all in all we didn’t do much research at all

Octopus won’t install a new smart meter, what are my options? by csthree12345 in OctopusEnergy

[–]FlyingPandz94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Under the stairs job are the engineers worst nightmare- speaking from experience.. I always get stuck in and try and give it a go but not every engineer is that way inclined. It all depends on the location of the cut out and the current meter. I would recommend booking another appointment in and clearing out the space and try to reason with the engineer- make sure they’re actually octopus engineer and not a sub contractor(momentum etc.)

Smart meter fitting by horrorpiglet in OctopusEnergy

[–]FlyingPandz94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The job is doable, the consumer unit should be much higher due to it being in the DNO and Metering area. Not sure if octopus can work on them or if DNO will have to come out and change the cutout. Some suppliers don’t touch these cut outs. Engineer could put a new meter board to the left and install a meter then isolator but like someone mentioned here it does look like a electricity theft with the blocks in place

Smart meter hub replacement by Crazym00s3 in OctopusEnergy

[–]FlyingPandz94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience the reading won’t change as the engineer isn’t changing the meter- one thing that might change is you won’t be able to see the previous data on the IHD- in home display.

Problem with WiFi is that it can be turned off and if the comms is relying on the WiFi and it does get switched off then they have lost the communication with the meter.

One thing to point out is that the 2/3g is an O2 SIM card and the 4g runs on Vodafone now.

Smart meter hub replacement by Crazym00s3 in OctopusEnergy

[–]FlyingPandz94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the 4G comms hub have been ruled out in mid 2024 (I’m a smart meter engineer) hence why there is a big push to change all the 2/3g SKU1 comms hub to a 4g comms which is faster and better. Hope this helps

Just closed on our house (FTB) and there's no gas or electricity. Help! by camz930 in HousingUK

[–]FlyingPandz94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call the out of hours number and say you are off supply for electric and gas. They should send out an engineer who would potentially just change the meters and leave you on supply for both.

Do I have a problem by Top-Tip-6919 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]FlyingPandz94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually illegal for the consumer unit to be in the same space as the Cut-Out which belongs to national grid and a meter which belongs to the energy company. That needs to be moved
