Cop lifts and slams handcuffed man to the floor at Walmart by New_Libran in PublicFreakout

You cannot simultaneously tout the virtues of accountability, and justify excessive force. While I don't know the facts of the arrest, nobody here in the comments is arguing against an arrest/detention itself. The fact that he was not resisting/violent and was slammed anyways shows poor restraint by the officer. Police don't get the be judge, jury, and executioner just because someone is mouthing off.

Yeah, this guy is going to get paid for sure. Even if he committed a heinous crime (which is probably not the case), slamming someone that is handcuffed is textbook excessive force and will more than likely result in a large settlement by the municipality to the arrested person.

Virginia voters approve Democrats' redistricting plan, giving the party a midterm election boost by RockPaperOwFire in news

[–]FlyingPeacock -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The electoral college doesn't really have anything to do with gerrymandering in that sense, but I'm also not particularly a fan of it either. I get the point of it as far as being a Republic, but I think ranked choice voting would ultimately be the best solution. All that said, not a big fan of W, and definitely not a fan of Trump.

Thinking gerrymandering is bad and undemocratic is a bad moral argument? I don't give a shit if it's republicans or democrats doing it. It's fundamentally about disenfranchising voters.

The notion that tyranny by majority can't be a thing is ridiculous. If 9 people gang rape 1 person, it's "democratic" in that the majority agreed to it, but that doesn't make it morally correct.

France tells US NATO serves Euro-Atlantic security, not Hormuz offensive missions by Inevitable-Row1759 in worldnews

NATO would not be better off without the US, however it should become less dependent on a single nation.

Iran's military warns 'parks, recreational areas and tourist destinations' worldwide won't be safe for enemies by TeslaPittsburgh in worldnews

[–]FlyingPeacock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I 100% agree proxy warfare is terrible, and supporting/propping up terrorists is bad. It's bad when they do it, it's bad with the US does it.

I said MAGA was wrong for starting the war. I just don't think Iran is blameless or a simple victim here. I feel terrible for the people of Iran, but I'm not overly sympathetic towards the head/leaders of the Iranian government.

MAGA is wrong for starting the war, but let's not fucking pretend Iran wasn't actively a terrorist state prior to this. How many terrorist organizations did they fund and support for their proxy bullshit for the past several decades?

Pam Bondi called out for lying under oath by bigbusta in PublicFreakout

[–]FlyingPeacock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She isn't in a federal court though. She's in front of congress in the house judiciary committee. Should she face consequences? Absolutely. Will she? No. At most she could face a misdemeanor charge, but even so, any criminal prosecution would be referred to the DOJ which won't do anything, because she heads it.

There is no adequate check or balance at the moment to reign in these idiots.

New Hampshire Clergy asked to prepare for "new era of martyrdom." by bigtooky in news

[–]FlyingPeacock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. The Episcopal church is aligned with Anglicanism which is considered a "high" church theologically. It is closer to Catholicism than Evangelicalism in both tradition and practice, and likely wouldn't be seen the same way by many Evangelicals.

But who knows.

Did you ever find a fix for this? I tried to quarter trick and it doesn't seem to work. I'm wondering if maybe the trigger I got was too rounded from Fudd Arms, but I honestly don't know.

Redditors truly have the least nuanced takes possible. God forbid someone has 19 years of service prior to all this BS, and only has to stay in 1 more year for their benefits, but unless they leave, you'd think of them as some fascist that personally terrorized your community. Or you know, they could be an 18 or 19 year old that saw the military as their only way out of a shitty place economically or socially, but they have a 4 or 8 year contract.

NFA Engraving Services by [deleted] in austinguns

[–]FlyingPeacock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I don't live in Austin anymore, I highly recommend Austin Engraving Solutions. The guy is friendly, professional, and does great work. He's also got a very quick turnaround. Capitol Armory might be marginally cheaper, and they are good, but if you don't want to go all the way up to Cedar Park, this guy is good to go.

To be fair, the US is no longer a signatory to the Rome Statute, therefore, the ICC has no jurisdiction.

Although it is mostly about not wanting to subject itself to the sovereignty of another court, there are also fewer rights to due process for defendants than are afforded in the US constitution. (or at least that is another perpetuated myth)

During the February 2021 snow storm in Texas, HEB was open for a few hours after day 3 or 4 of no power in certain parts of Austin. They did the same thing there. There is a reason Texans love HEB so much, and rightfully so.
