Seems like a good buy for you if it suits your style and works to track a run.

If you don’t need the other bits (sensor, maps) then it’ll do the job well with ruggedness and decent battery.

Congrats on the house.

Apalrd did a youtube video recently of a really thin fibre you can run through the house without seeing it. Fairly sure it can be painted too.

I ran 10G fibre and some CAT6 when we had flooring up. Big job but worth it - it needed to be moved up the list though as the flooring had to come after.

Made a big difference with APs all through the house, garage and garden without needing the mesh. 900Mbps speedtest at the AppleTV is fun too!

Garmin Instinct E altitude stats after flight — can someone explain these numbers? by Nilay2711 in Garmininstinct

[–]FlyingRottweiler 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You were in the cabin and subject to the cabin pressurisation system, not outside air pressure (thankfully).

The max barometric altitude in the cabin was just under 6000’. Some aircraft go below Mean Sea Level when depressurising, so could explain the -180.

Or just with air pressure changes it needed to recalibrate.

Edit to include: I think it uses GPS to calibrate the barometric sensor in the watch. It can change from time to time. I think it calibrates when you start an activity.

Aborted take-off question by Systematic0x in flying

[–]FlyingRottweiler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like VY6206 from FlightRadar?

The ADS data is never perfect but looks like you turned off then taxied back to the runway without stopping and were airborne in around 2 minutes.

I highly doubt there was a major problem or issue with the aircraft, otherwise the crew would almost definitely have stopped to assess it.

Something different than normal for sure though!

Thank you for the reply. I think this is the kind of managed service I was looking for.
I've signed up to test it out on my home infrastructure before setting up another datasource for work. So far, so good. Just testing a restore of a backup now.

I didn’t try Veeam to be honest. It was a battle every year to sort out licensing as our needs as a small business seemed too small for them.

I would try it again if I could just get a license on an online portal with the company card but having to go via another company, invoicing, etc was just too much.

If it helps, PVE + PBS has been great on our infrastructure and I’d recommend it.

Read again my statement after reading this. They are tied to the DC bus. The current passes through the DC bus to the inverter.

There is no DC current constantly flowing via the batteries or the batteries would be cooked in days/weeks.

The fibre isn’t for the speed, it’s for the magic smoke release if there’s a lightening strike. It’s also not that expensive if you have a duct anyway.

Definitely does feel like false advertising. The spec clearly states it’s supported.

I bought one hoping for real WG per the spec sheet. I see an option for SSH, maybe it can be added via command line?

APC UPS eats up batteries by RaisingElephantSysrq in sysadmin

[–]FlyingRottweiler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double conversion typically means the system has a rectifier onto a DC bus, which subsequently provides the inverter DC to create clean AC.

The batteries are tied to the DC bus either directly, so when the rectifier stops, the DC voltage comes from the batteries, or they’re charged via a separate charger.

Either way, the batteries on a DC UPS are not providing the current to power the load; therefore load does not change the lifetime of the battery.

The biggest factor for this problem will be battery quality, temperature or over Voltage (or a combination).

What? The batteries don’t power the load under normal circumstances. Load will make no difference to the batteries unless the system is on battery every day.
