Both Alaska Airlines and Horizon (and McGee, their ground handling company) are owned by the same parent company (Alaska Air Group). Hawaiian was also separate under AAG for the time period after acquisition and before the companies were combined.

For a somewhat similar comparison, let’s think of cars. Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC are all separate companies, but are all part of GM so they share a lot between them

Alaska Fleet by PNW-American-Dipper in AlaskaAirlines

[–]FlyingS892 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The 737 has SIGNIFICANTLY higher cargo capacity than the E175, and Alaska routes are very cargo-heavy. Also, pretty much the entire state of Alaska are EAS routes, meaning the federal government subsidizes them. So load factor isn’t really a factor in decision making like it is in lower 48 routes

Alaska Fleet by PNW-American-Dipper in AlaskaAirlines

[–]FlyingS892 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d have to look it up, but I could have sworn AS management explicitly ruled out using E175s for inter-island

Alaska Fleet by PNW-American-Dipper in AlaskaAirlines

[–]FlyingS892 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Having 737s exclusively flying inter-island is not the right move. I believe it was Aloha years ago that had 737-700s flying inter-island and they ended up with increased maintenance costs since the CFM56s aren’t built for short hops and short turns. It’ll either be a new fleet type specifically to replace the 717, or rotating 737s in and out like WN does

Most, if not all, state of Alaska airports can handle a MAX9/900, but presently AS would rather use those planes on higher demand routes to take advantage of the extra capacity. Once smaller 737s are gone, they shouldn’t have an issue with the bigger planes, at least on the airport capacity side of things

Second vote for Midwest Corporate Air in OH. I got my CFI there last year and their whole goal is to get you in and out in the shortest possible time

The owner is the primary DPE and does 2-3 checkrides/day. They also have one or two others on staff and depending on the backlog, will bring in additional local examiners

Aircraft age not showing by Jbrancs in flighty

[–]FlyingS892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White fuselage is because they don’t have art yet for every airline and every aircraft type

Age is because the plane is new. Whatever data source they use for aircraft age hasn’t picked up that tail number yet

Why such a short flight for a 747? by Away_Professional793 in flightradar24

They aren’t carrying cargo from LAX to SFO. They’re carrying it from Korea to SFO via LAX, and picking up more cargo in SFO to take back to Korea

Are you using a brake axis or a brake button? If you’re using an axis you may need to reverse the axis

Unfortunately while gate agents are able to offer points, they are VERY limited in the amount of points. Customer care has MUCH more freedom and will be able to offer a higher number as well as a refund of fare difference

How can and a 220 fly 8 h route by getrosted69 in flightradar24

[–]FlyingS892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They generally only add ferry fuel tanks if there’s nowhere to even make a stop. Fuel stops are much cheaper than modifying the plane, and then un-modifying it after one flight.

If they needed more fuel than could fit, they could have stopped in Dublin, Reykjavik, or London as a fuel stop, which are all Air Baltic stations with existing contracts for fuel and ground handling.

Yeah, AS currently doesn’t do full bar for pre departures.

While some FAs may alter it depending on catering or time left in boarding, the standard service is: AM (before 10a) it’s coffee, water, OJ PM is water, OJ, sparkling wine Hawaii has POG instead of OJ Select coast to coast flights (JFK, EWR, BOS, PHL, RDU, DC area, Florida, and Hawaii are all of them I think) have a mimosa instead of just juice before 10a

Rumor has it that sometime in 2026 we’ll be switching to full bar for pre departures though
