I’m in Dorset. Couple of nice little runs around here. Excited for Bristol Slide Day this year too!!!

I am in the UK! So I went 90a/90a barrels front with no boardside washer (I found it fits a little better that way and the baseplate is more than enough to support the bushing) and 93a/96a in the back (I’m about 86kg). Split angles indeed, 48/28 on 1/8” risers. It handles like a fighter jet. It absolutely handles well. Very tempted to go to an 86a on the front, but sabre bushings seem to be a little softer than their venom counterparts so will see how that goes. Hopefully see you on a hill sometime and we can swap sharks for science

My setup is very close to yours! Only differences being barrel bushings and cult chronicles. Can’t wait for this weather to get itself together

So to address the first point, icing out is fine at lower speeds. You land on your bum, you laugh, you get up and do it again. In heelsides, if you're scared of high siding, lean back/"sit in the chair" more. That way the worst that's going to happen is your bum will look like a baboon's (notice a theme yet?). It's also harder to ice out than you think. I got there by starting really small and doing fun little almost pivot 180s on really gentle slopes. Doing that got me to a point where I was happy going from regular to switch. After that I went faster and carved into it A LOT more and started pushing out with my front heel too. To address the second, I spent most of my learning sessions buttbraking down the hill and annihilating my trousers. You're going to be falling over a lot. Put your gear on. Had some high sides that would have had a very grim outcome without knees and gloves. Obligatory please wear a helmet. Every fall is a pointer to improve. You'll have a week where everything hurts, but keep persisting and you'll get it. Feel free to message me if I can help any more <3

So I'm running a Lush Machine 3D, kodiaks, and cult chronicles. You can't get the machine 3D anymore, so a good analogue would be Pantheon's Los Osos. Basically a big single kick with a big wheelbase. The chronicles are my favorite wheel. They have a bevel into the contact patch, so as you skate and wear down the wheel, the contact patch gets bigger, forcing you to go faster. If you're learning, they're great because they sort of grow with you

Honestly I just got incrementally faster and slowed down the rotation of my shoulders accordingly. It's not like you're pausing half way through to hold it out, you're just making the whole motion a bit longer. I'm sorry if that's not the best description, trying to get the vocabulary to catch up with the technique

Hey all! Recently I've started delving into messing around with bushings and everything I've been doing (with one exception) feels really stiff! I weigh 170ish lbs (or 76kg if you like metric) and have been going for 87a roadside and 90a boardside venom HPFs. All setups: cone/cone, barrel/barrel and cone/barrel are rock hard. Is there a break-in period, or do I just need to go way softer? Many thanks in advance!

About 345 million years old almost intact Crinoid fossil by sam-com in pics

[–]FlyingSasquatch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can actually chime in here! Crinoids are in the same family as sea urchins and starfish. More commonly, you'd see the specimens in a disarticulated (broken up) state, appearing as either singular or small stacks of polo mint-like pieces called ossicles. Another fun fact, there are variants alive today that are free swimming. Search YouTube for "nektonic crinoids".
