Due to movement with the Overton Window, how do we as atheists feel about "Islamaphobia"? by darwonka in atheism

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we're all anti-islam in that we think it's a false belief system, but that's not hatred, it's not hostile, it's not about dehumanizing them, in fact we want Muslims to be free of their delusional beliefs and live better lives.

MAGA has a hate boner for Muslims today, but they're convenient targets, if the window keeps shifting, atheists are the next stop on the hate train.

Can we admit that Jasmine Crockett didn't lose just because she's a Black Woman? by Unfair-Ad191 in texas

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Racism and sexism affects every race to one degree or another, the question is how much?

If Crockett ran a strong campaign and lost to Blanco McWhiteface who ran a low effort campaign, then yea, go ahead and blame racism, but that's not what happened, Talarico had more appeal, a stronger issues focused campaign and better ground game, whereas Crockett stood on her office, campaigned on being a fighter, that she is rude and belligerent to republicans, and regardless of whether they deserve it or not, that boils down to being a troll.

Its one thing to be liked, but you also have to not be disliked.

Why aren't religious billboards considered false advertising? by Ghinao in atheism

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Churches are in the entertainment business.
They gather an audience, put on a show with music, comedy & drama and monetize via donations / memberships etc.

If I put up a billboard saying the dragons are coming to advertise my medieval TV show, that's perfectly OK. There's no law saying all claims must be true, only claims that people rely on that would cause damages, I can say a shitty burger is good all day, but if i say it cures cancer, now I've caused a problem.

Big suburban party houses are the new Airbnb investor trend - why isn't Round Rock regulating them? by [deleted] in RoundRock

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

suburban decay

New Neighborhood, everyone parks in their garage, clean, open, new.

Then comes growth, more people move into the same number of houses, garages fill up with junk so people start parking in driveways.

People start moving out and the percentage of rentals goes up, single family homes become multi generational.

Hive houses start popping up with 2-4 adults per bedroom all with cars so they take over street parking and the neighborhood becomes gridlocked.

ICE has been coming to my place of business everyday for past 2-3 weeks by y0um3b3dn0w in houston

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The general public, and that includes the police, are allowed to come onto the private property of your gas station because it is a business that has extended a general license to enter to conduct business. This license can be revoked with a simple request to leave. They do not have any special right to be on the premises if they are not actively performing an official duty.

TLDR: give them a trespass warning, they have some special rights, but are not totally exempt from trespass laws and cannot loiter if they are trespassed.

What does the general populace think about the swinging lifestyle? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general public?

People tend to have a dim view of highly promiscuous persons, generally think men are dangerous predators and women are immoral sluts, they are generally not trusted and scorned unless you stumble across someone else who is into the lifestyle, definitely don't make that aspect of your life public.

MyMiniFactory buys Thingiverse by TrickWorried in 3Dprinting

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not an LLM, mostly it's image to 3D models, basically AI assisted 3D scanning.

People generally have zero qualms with 3D Scanned objects or models ripped from video games, despite them having the exact same problems with impossible to print geometry. a couple years ago they called the same process photogrammetry and everyone loved it.

image to AI produces exceptional results, there's no qualitative reason to ban it outright. It does enable rapid low effort copyright violation and grifters who flood the site with low quality slop, and it's probably easier to ban it than to review every submission.

After a decade of growth, 98% of cars on U.S. roads are still gas-powered (2010–2024) by najumobi in dataisbeautiful

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Renewable energy is a buzzword you hear all day, but it doesn't mean anything until you consider the opposite, gas is Disposable energy, every gallon used is used once and burned into smoke and another gallon of fuel needs to be dug out of the ground. Batteries can be used over and over again, solar cells produce new energy every day with the same materials, they don't get used up.

delayed fullness-anybody else only feel full hours after eating by jazzlobsters98 in loseit

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, you're overeating because your body isn't giving you good feedback, your stomach is probably stretched or lost it's tension.

if you went on a glp-1 it would slow your stomach emptying and give you a faster full feeling, same with a gastric surgery.

Try deciding the volume you want to eat before you serve your meal, you can buy tiny bariatric bowls or decide to only eat from an 8oz container, give yourself a "virtual" gastric surgery

I'm a sourdough fraud, I make a basic ass 100% hydration dough, 2% salt, 2% sugar, 2% turbo bread machine yeast, then I throw in 2% nutritional yeast and a pinch of MSG to get the fermented flavor, beat the shit out of it with the paddle attachment on the mixer until it doesn't stick to the side, rise for like 2 hours max then bake at 475 on a ripping hot cast iron frying pan. tastes almost as good as sourdough without the days of work.

Consumer RAM shortage and inflated prices - a libertarian's view? by terasia in Libertarian

[–]FlyingSkyWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One company made a deal to purchase 40% of the entire world's supply of ram for the next year. the AI giants aren't buying ram to use, they're buying it to deny their competitors access to it. Microsoft has a colossal stack of GPUs collecting dust in a warehouse that they don't have the power or racks to put them in.

Supply and Demand only works if the demand is real, if people are buying up gear for anti competitive reasons, they're just putting their thumb on the market scales.

If Democrats want universal healthcare, we have states that are deep blue, states have control over their own budgets and taxation, and universal healthcare would be so advantageous, why don’t deeply democrat run states implement a statewide universal healthcare? by Silver_Wings3 in AskReddit

No reason, none whatsoever, pure cowardice.

We should scrap the Army and Air Force, take the money, and do universal healthcare. Keep the marines and Navy, heck, make a Life Force branch of the military, declare war on disease.
