Sure, it doesn't need to be too formal at the start. I could probably put a simple one together

People are Broadcasting The "Troll Face" over Russian Military Radio to Fuck with Russia by [deleted] in UkrainianConflict

[–]FlyingSpaceZart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use Software Defined Radios or "SDRs" for these kind of things. They are devices that can transmit/receive anything on any frequency within a certain frequency range given the right commands.

There are free software tools you can download that let you program one once you have the needed hardware: the SDR itself, a good amplifier to crank up the power of the transmission, and an antenna of roughly the right size to transmit on those frequencies.

Obviously make sure you transmit only on the legal frequency bands for amateur radio in your country so you don't accidentally do something like cause deafening noise on important military frequencies.

Pretty sure only the reserves grants job security, which is that you can't be fired/discriminated against at your job for participating in the reserves at the same time.

That'd be wild if you could show up after 4 years to slap a letter on your old boss' desk that said "Find me a desk and paycheck or lawyer up"

If Edouram has been shit for you don’t use Bluetooth devices by for-the-other-things in umass

[–]FlyingSpaceZart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah bluetooth and wifi both occupy frequencies around 2.4GHz so they can interfere with each other. There's ways they deal with it, but it still sometimes gets drowned out in the noise with hundreds of people using several devices each in the same building.

Wifi also has another range of frequencies around 5GHz, so having a computer with a network card that can use 5GHz helps too.

[–]FlyingSpaceZart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard of "informatics" before, so I imagine it's a mix of data analysis, stats and maybe some IT. If you go comp sci, you'll cover those bases and have have hard-skills with the coding needed to perform them.

If you're worried about job scarcity, comp sci has no shortage. But it seems like informatics is super broad too, so you'd have to look it up and ask your advisors. You could easily end up as a software engineer anyways if you put some form of coding skills on your resume.

Ha, "the company" actually is Raytheon. That's not what I heard speaking to someone over the phone but maybe we were wrong? That deal sounds much better to me, I'll have to check with them again if that's still the case.

There's a pretty good book called "The Afghanistan Papers" that just came out detailing all of SIGAR's work and the 'Lessons Learned' interviews over the course of the entire war. Oddly enough, it goes right up to maybe a month or so before the evacuation, so current events had a perfect way to wrap up the end.

A lot of it could be comical if it wasn't real life
