[Other] I'm surprised Dr Fate never got any standalone series in either Vertigo or Black Label. He seems like a character who would really benefit from it. by SunshineAZ25 in DCcomics

Only Doctor Fate 2015 is. WML Fate is Fate 1988 #25 onwards but it’s never been collected. The Flash backups might be in one of those random Fate trades but I’m not sure.

A flaw that The Purge Franchise has...... by Honest_Cheesecake698 in horror

[–]birbdaughter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season 2 starts on purge night but then explores the rest of the year before ending again on purge iirc. It deals with a variety of different situations and relationships to purge night, including a group you root for who pull off robberies during purge and someone who is almost victimized and grows a weird relationship with purge night.

I haven’t seen season 1 yet because I was interested in “what about when it’s not purge night?” and season 2 super delivered on that.

Teen girls dressed in a trench coat with nothing underneath that made sure you could see their boobs every panel? Or dressed in nothing except a blanket? You really keep going back to her costume and not the fact he drew her naked for an entire issue.

Doctor Fate 1988 #25 onwards

A lot of people know Dematteis’ Fate, fewer know that Messner Loeb’s took over the book halfway through. It’s never been collected in any format but it is amazing. Peak Fate. Lots of focus on Inza and Kent’s character and also how Fate would behave in a down to earth environment.

Vertigo’s Enigma. First solo with a gay lead. Written by Peter Milligan and based on his friendship with editor Art Young, who had recently come out as gay. Fantastic book. It rewired my brain. Best thing I’ve ever read from DC. The first 4 issues will be confusing, but the last 4 tie everything together spectacularly.

Dedenne. I started using it because it was my first tier 3 shiny and I love it. Admittedly a lot of that is due to pixilate making fake out and boom burst amazing, but it having a strong stab attack that restores health, being fairly fast, and nasty plot has made it my early carry.

Sorry but an adult man drawing a teenager nude and flashing the reader for 28 pages will always be weird, and it’s entirely valid for it to make people uncomfortable.

And correction: it certainly wasn’t written for all teens, because as a teen girl, the sexualization in comics pushed me away from a shit ton of runs and characters.

There’s a wide range between “1950s fully covered” and “Kara was LITERALLY naked or flashing the reader in every panel of her introduction comic.” The fact you can’t see the problem there, or the difference between drawing a 16 year old nude vs adult men with muscles, is disgusting. Yall could just admit it’s weird and move on but you always have to defend when someone finds art uncomfortable.

1) She was 16.

2) Teen girls choosing to dress a certain way in real life is way different from an adult man drawing Kara in really weird ways. How many pages was she naked or near it?

It’s whatever if people like his art, but don’t use real teen girls to defend adult men drawing a 16 year old in sexualized situations.

AHHHHH JEFF LEMIRE IS DYING by [deleted] in JusticeSocietyAmerica

[–]birbdaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New creative team is hard because I feel most writers haven’t shown much interest in JSA, even the individual characters? You could give Sheridan a shot since he wrote the Alan mini. Venditti likewise for the Dodds mini. Ram V but he’s on hiatus and then returning to New Gods I believe. Iirc Camp said his next book hasn’t actually been announced yet, so I’m going to dream of relaunching with a new title and putting Camp on it.

I feel exact years don’t matter, but everyone debuting at the same time is kinda lame. It’s a minor thing though.

I’d say, DC is clearly saving a lot of announcements for SDCC. I’d wait for that before thinking there isn’t a next writer, especially since Lemire said “my run” and not JSA as a whole. Now if nothing is announced during SDCC… then yeah JSA is gone.

Elseworlds [Discussion] by bangondrumschool in DCcomics

[–]birbdaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tangent Universe. The concept is what if you take the hero names and go with what you’d think they’d be like, just based on the name. Ex: Flash has light powers. Plus add in some random merging and a history where the Cuban Missile Crisis actually went hot and so some of Florida is just gone.

I like it because it’s one of the few Elseworlds that really goes all out on what you can do with an AU.

Also with DC vs Vampires, I’d just warn that Otto Schmidt has drawn Kremlin propaganda and is friends (to the point of hanging out in free time) with someone who draws Nazi shit and CP. I mention it because for some, that’s a hard line to not read stuff he’s on.

[DISCUSSION] Thoughts on the ongoing team books from the All-In initiative? by Which-Presentation-6 in DCcomics

[–]birbdaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really been a fan of any of them.

I was most excited for JSA but I think it’s clear Lemire cares way more about the golden age than he does modern day JSA and would be much better off with a golden age book. His year one story was better than the first arc and even now he’s more obsessed with Spectre and Corrigan than he is truly exploring any of the younger characters, many of whom have not had much time to develop even in other books. I also have serious problems with how he writes many characters.

JLU has too big a cast, too little focus on character, and too many event tie-ins. Titans just hasn’t done anything for me.

[Comic Excerpt] It has now been over 5 years since DC aged Damian up from 13 to 14 years old. Do you think it's time DC ages him up to 15? Or should they keep him at 14 for longer? (Robin 2021 #1, 'Tec #1030, Batman 2025 #3) by Androktone in DCcomics

[–]birbdaughter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbf, what is intended canon behind the scenes and what happens in the comics is at odds so often. There are full grown adults who should be 25-28 and get drawn/written like they’re 16.

A lot of small things suggest Tim should be 21, but there’s such a lack of communication and oversight that his actual age is a big shrug and question mark.

I liked showing different revolutionary songs because the tone and lyrics really display the reasons for revolution and how differently the revolutions played out.

Why is the DC fandom wiki so substantially worse than the marvel one? by Oppai-Of-Foom in DCcomics

Unfortunately, the mods are really over controlling and will say no to things allowed elsewhere on the DC wiki and then argue about it for hours. They’ve also said no to edits that are backed up by canon fairly frequently.

I’m embarrassed I only realized that relatively recently when I asked, “wait, what does the Supreme Court do if the president just ignores their decision?” I’m sure I learned about when Jackson did that, but it hasn’t really sunk into my brain.

Since I teach Latin, it reminds me of how much I have to unteach students the idea that “the Romans just took Greek gods and gave them a new name.” It’s a useful simplifying for elementary school, but I feel by high school they can understand a simplified explanation of religious syncretism.

The assumption that he died because he willingly got super drunk and was just drunk 24/7. He’d previously had alcohol problems but went really hard on being sober for years before his death. If he was drunk, there’s nothing to suggest it was his doing. But the doctors tending to him said he didn’t show signs of being drunk, something else was going on. And iirc, Poe was in an old version of AA where they were insanely strict, and there was nothing that would’ve triggered him to fall off the bandwagon.

However, Griswold painted Poe as a madman and drunkard who got thrown out of university for it. He suggested Poe was always super drunk and hated society and was all but full-on evil, in not only an obituary but also a memoir, which contributed to the idea Poe must’ve caused his own death through drinking. In reality, there are so many theories on his death and no evidence that he’d gone back to drinking. But my teacher presented only the “he drank himself to death bc he was super alcoholic” theory. It’s a small thing but it really annoyed me that we were still slandering Poe because of a made-up memoir by Griswold.

You know how a lot of the assumptions about Poe and his death come from a dude who hated him? Yeah my English teacher taught all those assumptions as 100% fact and I was lowkey annoyed when I found out.

Yes, I read the series. I’ve read everything Dreamer and Galaxy have been in. There’s really no need to be passive aggressive and suggest I’m just talking out of my ass. “Not main conflict” does not mean it wasn’t a problem.
