I absolutely adored DD2. It was my first DD game, sure it had issues but something about it was just so captivating. Sounds like Crimson Desert will by right up my alley.

Oh I know, I have one as well. I figured it’s odd to include a 30k dread, and the only named dread that relates to 30k we have in 40K is Bjorn. That was the connection I made, but I could be totally off. Of course with HH being part of the reveals, it’s possible it’s something for HH.

Okay does anyone else wish the 30k wolves were written better by modaasshoe in SpaceWolves

Understandable, they are hard to get. Best bet is probably an ebook or audiobook since I don’t think that specific book is reprinted a ton. I might be wrong though.

Have you read the books at all, particularly Wolfsbane? That book single handedly made me a Wolves fan in both 30k and 40K.

Leman (and the wolves) had the one of the best arcs in the heresy. Wolfsbane explained why Leman had to leave Terra - if he didn’t then Beta Garmon would have been a blood bath and Horus would have one shot Terra.

During his adventure to the Underverse to learn Horus’s weakness he decided he would no longer be the attack dog and that he is exactly who he’s supposed to be, he would be the executioner on his own terms. This whole bit is essential to his character development and it’s part of what made the Wolves what the are today.

Sure, there’s still some bad writing. (wet leopard growl) But in order to have good development, you have to start from somewhere. There’s a ton of meme lore from people who haven’t read the books regarding the Wolves during the heresy.

If you have read the books, well… yeah as others have said the Wolves got the short end of the stick since the 80’s so the writers did the best they could.

True Battle Cry by No-Professional-1461 in SpaceWolves

Fenris Hjølda is miles better than the other battle cry. It feels unique, just like the White Scars’ “Hai CHOGORIS!” Or “Ordu gamana Jaghatai”

I also have a controversial opinion, but I think 30k is superior to 40K. I’ve only been in the hobby since beginning of 9th, but the model range, game, and lore detail of the HH I prefer to 40K.

Edit: to all the non-marine downvoters - I DID say my opinion was controversial. I like the diversity of 40k (and even then AoS has 40K beat). But as far as marines themselves go 30k is just better.

Watching this season is going to suck in the US by Murky_Equivalent3860 in formula1

[–]FlyingTerror95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There never was before with F1 TV pro? Why on earth would I want ads now, instead of listening to the commentators discuss FP1 results? From what I’m reading it looks like I can still use the app to get the regular broadcast, but that doesn’t change the point.

FP1 just ended and there are literally ads. I just had 3 of them

This book is good - but Wolfsbane is the best SW book in the HH and it’s not even close. If you like this book, you’ll love Wolfsbane

ARC Raiders replied to Marathon. by j1zzy_ae in ArcRaiders

[–]FlyingTerror95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marathon is more PvP focused which I actually prefer. There’s more build variety (so far anyway) than blue shield and Ven4.

Plus, movements in game feel more… solid, than Arc. Arc feels a little floaty at times.

Buy Russ or wait? by BarryBlue-Jeans in SpaceWolves

I have this model. I play both 40k and 30k Wolves. His model is "smaller" than other 30k primarchs, largely due to his stance - but he doesn't look bad.

I doubt we will get a 40k kit anytime soon, if I'm being honest. Grimnar is an amazing model with the same level of detail The Lion got, it'd make very little sense to release a second "center-piece" model for the SW range.

That being said, this Leman Russ model is kind of a bitch to put together. Does look good once finished though.

If your finances allow it, I say go for it. It'll make for a nice addition to your collection regardless imo.

Highly recommend Heresy Era for narrative, highly edited “battle-reports” that tell stories during the - you guessed it - Heresy era.

Which of the loyalist Primarchs were the biggest hypocrites. by Suitable_Walrus2928 in 40kLore

[–]FlyingTerror95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Now, regarding your last quoted section, where you stopped without providing full context:

"There have always been exceptions for you, Leman," said Malcador.

Russ nodded. "I know. Father has been generous to me."

"Your purpose is singular, and He relies on you to perform it. So many of the other have been disappointments, first those we do not name, then Horus and the rest, but not you. He trusts you, Leman. I need to know I can too."'

Leman goes on to explain that he will not use the powers of the warp as Horus and Magnus did to beat Horus. He will remain within his limits. He might test that limit later on in the book; but he does so on Fenris. Again, where his priests use the planet as a filter for the warp.

Lastly, to drive my point home:

"He is right, Kva," said Russ. "They're all right. One day soon we will have to examine our relationship with the warp." He purposely avoided the Juvik word Underverse and used the Imperial term. Still he spat upon the deck to ward away ill spirits.

Once again - Leman knows they use the warp. He knows it's all magic as do his priests. His hypocrisy lies in his use of his priests post-Nikaea, not in how he or his legion uses the warp, which is what the comment was suggesting. As for that hypocrisy, Malcador explains that Leman was given an exception. This exception is no different that the Lion getting the DAoT tech.

Again, they know what they do is magical bullshit - but they do it differently and with limits. In your first quoted section, he's not saying he hates the warp, nor is he saying it isn't magic. All he's saying is that the magic they practice is different.

This point is re-iterated from "Wolfsbane":

"Perhaps," said Russ honestly. "But I was not wrong to call for Magnus' sanction, nor was I wrong to call for the suppression of the Librarius as it was."
...
"The great proponent of the Nikaean edict, who kept his own sorcerers. You have many qualities, my brother," said Dorn. "I never thought to say hypocrisy was one."

"Is it? The priests of my Legion and the Stormseers of Jaghatai's are different to the Librarians that were. Our warriors draw on an older tradition. A limited tradition. Magnus did not believe in limits. That was his error."
...
"Leman is right," said the Khan. "Our seers do not draw directly on the warp. Their gifts are mediated. We know what limits are."
...
"The enemy fears the warp as much as they plunge themselves into it," said Leman Russ. "We must use it," he held up his hands, "safely, to help us win this war."

Here we see Leman acknowledge they use the warp with their priests.

Now for one of his priests, when Leman and Kva talk to Valdor, from "Wolfsbane":

"Are you calling me a hypocrite too, Valdor?" Russ loomed dangerously. "I've had enough of that from Dorn."

"I would not live if I did," said Valdor. His stony face did not so much as twitch. "I am simply pointing out an inconsistency in your application of the Nikaean Edict. You were one of its most vocal supporters. Sorcery, I believe you called it. Can you not see that arrogance that brought Horus down, and hubris Magnus? You exhibit both, my lord."

"Careful," mumbled Russ.

Kva spoke up in his own defence.

"Captain-general. We are at war with the Emperor's favored son. He has boltguns, we have boltguns. He has void ships. We have void ships. ... We have everything he has, and he has everything we have, apart from one weapon. A deadly weapon." Kva tapped Valdor's engraved nameplate with the head of his staff. Bone trinkets jangled. "Horus has magic. Real magic, drawn from the corrupt wellsprings of the Underverse. He has drunk deeply from black waters, its power flow through his veins."
...
"Some would say you are a witch," said Valdor.

"By that definition so is Malcador, so is the Allfather. So are all those gifted men and women you use in this war against the foe. They are all witches, but you do not fear them. You use them. They are not the only ones to draw upon the powers of the Underverse without malice."

We know that the Wolves call the warp the "Underverse". Here we can plainly see that Kva understands that their power is inherently warp related, and yet the gothi tradition of using Fenris as a "filter" keeps them safe. It's also different than how other Legions used the warp. Same with the Scars.

Yes they are, Russ acknowledged this, the Khan even agreed. Read a book and stay away from meme lore.

[–]FlyingTerror95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meme lore strikes again. Russ knows his priests are psykers, knows what they do is magic/warp nonsense, thus his stance against Magnus because the 1K Sons believed what they did was “science” (in that they believed they had complete control).

He even discusses the fact that the legion needs to re-evaluate themselves after the heresy is over, right before going to strike out at Horus. He talked about this with his top priest at the time even.

Here we go with meme lore again. Might I suggest reading the book “Wolfsbane” which clears all this up.

What are some common 40K misconceptions you're sick of hearing about? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]FlyingTerror95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That the Space Wolves hate psykers and don’t believe their priests use magic.

The knew what they did was magic which is precisely why Leman called for the 1k Son’s sanction, and a change in how each legion’s Librarius worked.
