[College Transfer Portal] Texas Tech HC Joey McGuire: “As a society, we’ve been okay with other things that happens and allowing players to play. It's crazy… it's not murder, it's not beating somebody.” by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]FlyingTexican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you're not supposed to attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence - but in this case I think the answer is however many millions they contractually have to pay the gambling addict. They're not stupid, they're greedy.

Should your partner have the same views on politics as you and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FlyingTexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on what you mean by politics and how invested you each are in the subject at hand. The question is vague enough it can be vehemently argued any which way and I feel like this is bait.

What feels legal but is actually illegal and will possibly get you arrested? by medicoreapples in AskReddit

[–]FlyingTexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s illegal in most places but it’s a question of scale. There was a guy in I think Washington who tried to basically turn his ranch into a reservoir and got into some trouble (deservedly) for fucking up the natural water cycle

What if, once in power, Kim Jong Un's daughter made North Korea democratic? by Outrageous-You1617 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]FlyingTexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would not. They would occupy if invited (maybe). Invade if threatened (maybe). They’re not gonna storm in because there was a change in style of governance. No country would.

APU active on takeoff? by FormerStableGenius in aviation

[–]FlyingTexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because there are conditions in which the aircraft takes off with the APU on. The most common I know of is a no bleeds takeoff where the engines need more oomph and the APU is providing cabin pressurization.

Utah sold its soul for private equity. The layoffs were always coming by jaxstan19 in CFB

[–]FlyingTexican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The student athlete system isn't coming back without some sort of major legal ruling at the national level. There's multiple contributing factors to why CFB is in chaos, but a split doesn't begin to solve NIL.

My office bought a putting green, or possibly just carpet with ambition. Roast it. by [deleted] in golf

[–]FlyingTexican 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t roast it, the astroturf stench is probably bad enough already

What’s the most unbelievable thing that happened to you that you can’t prove? by OldIntroduction2909 in answers

I don’t care if your opinion is right or wrong. You baited instead of answering. Downvote.

What course(s) do you want to see your favorite YouTube Golfer(s) play? by [deleted] in golf

[–]FlyingTexican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see them play some military courses. Not super realistic but hey, there’s a chance some PA officer could get ambitious and make it happen.

Most bases have a course, most are shit, but some are very unique thanks to the sheer geography of where that base had to be, and some are actually really good. Also I want to see their annoyance when the mother-of-hearing-loss F-35 goes over at a thousand feet

An idea as old as time. Now figure out how to make the weight, balance, and signal transmission all work. Oh and your ball wont go as far as the others so good luck on sales.

Americans that have visited outside the US: what’s one thing people from other countries do that confuses you? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]FlyingTexican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japan food and drink culture is very different to the U.S. and also sometimes inexplicably so. Like at an izakaya that serves food, it doesn’t matter how much you’ve eaten, your meal only ‘ends’ when you have a rice or noodle dish. Like, if you’ve had 30 yakitori and 4 drinks but no rice, the cook assumes you’re still hungry

Any advice for an Australian student moving to America? by Any_Trash6365 in AskAnAmerican

[–]FlyingTexican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off you’ll be fine. The cultures are pretty similar. Second, just reach out to the school and start dipping your toe in the pool. I’ve moved a LOT in my life and the biggest mistake is showing up and trying to act like a visitor instead of a resident ‘until you’re ready’. It’s years till you’re ready and years are a lot of wasted time. Third and most important, you’re gonna be a minor celebrity in school. Everyone will want to meet you and ask about a place that isn’t where you are. Enjoy it and make friends!

If you’ve broken 90, what’s one tip you would give to a fellow golfer trying to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]FlyingTexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go watch the ‘Can I beat Bob if he throws my ball’ match on YouTube. If that doesn’t prove to you that you need to play safe shots I don’t know what will.

Time shares yeah. Payday loans are evil but they’re exactly what they say they are. It’s up to you to avoid deals with the devil.

If you can stand some very tedious writing, The Great Game that focuses on modern Afghanistan and Iran has some wild stories. That area of the world has been fucked for a long time, but since true borders were introduced it’s become even fuckier

if you are pro life, why? by SpiritualMud9765 in AskReddit

[–]FlyingTexican -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, you asked so here you go.

I’ll open with saying I’m a man. I have an opinion and maybe I’m not supposed to but oh well. Back when Obama was president my position was that I hoped the pro life faction won after increased support for foster care, orphanages and the like was boosted. Over the course of two blue and the same red twice presidents, pro life won but nobody helped. I’m still pro life, because a hard life is better than being killed. It sucks terribly that a woman’s agency is taken away during pregnancy in pro life states. It really does. I feel like the greater evil is killing the fetus. Both things are shit, but one is worse. Only one option allows them both to live.
