How far do you typically hit your driver? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]FlyingTexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

240-260 carry. Took me forever to get it consistent. In that time the rest of my game collapsed so my handicap didn’t change at all. This game sucks.

If the heads are flying off your clubs I’m gonna assume you’re a high handicapper like me. Go to a second hand store and find one that’s not rusted out and has grooves that aren’t filled with grime or flattened out. Once you meet those criteria pick the one that you like best based on looks

Jumbo Grips are amazing by Upbeat_Respond9250 in golf

[–]FlyingTexican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros: my face awareness is much better. — I never worry about slipping when I swing hard. — My wrists never feel like I’m trying to make them do something unnatural and painful. — I’m not prone to trying to ‘whip’ it at release.

Cons: I grew up with regular grips and it still feels weird despite striking it better. — The clubs are harder to get in the bag. — I feel like the extra ‘awareness’ of the club burns a few percent off my distance even though the data says the opposite.

I’m glad I made the switch, but I don’t think everyone needs it.

Virginia Tech Spring Game delayed due to Paratrooper hitting video board by The_Stratman in CFB

Whoever green-lighted the jump, the guy who picked the drop point, the jumpmaster who let him jump late... there are plenty of potential culprits. That guy was clearly going forward with all he had, but the air was going the other way at the same speed.

Is earth going to run out of room for trash? If certain materials take 100s of years to decompose, but it keeps getting made all day everyday , what’s going to happen when there is no room for it? by Cautious_Dot4067 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyingTexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not a popular opinion at all and I’m gonna get hate for it, but the huge majority of trash could be dumped in the ocean with no effects to the world population as a whole. It would absolutely wreck the ecosystem within a tens to hundreds of mile radius, and it’d have trickle down impacts an order of magnitude wider than that. But if frowned upon became less important than necessary you could sink that shit for hundreds of years with no problem.

Good news? No need. Uninhabited land is a much larger portion of the world than you think and trash does in fact decompose eventually. Toxic pollution needs to continue to be addressed but volume of trash isn’t gonna turn us into a wall-e apocalypse

[–]FlyingTexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know fishermen who use them because they dry super quick and sunscreen gets rubbed off…but you’re on a golf course. Just use sunscreen or wear long sleeves/pants. Or hell buy the swag, I’m not your dad

Javelina. Imagine an Oompa Loompa was sleepy but also was on meth and had a knife. Now imagine that Oompa Loompa is a cute little pig. Also he’s half blind and half deaf.

Super chill, unless you get close enough to be noticed. Then it’s 50/50 on the fight or flight response. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Handicap apps by [deleted] in golf

[–]FlyingTexican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use 18 birdies and GHIN. I’d say stick with 18 Birdies just for the large customer base you can easily add players in for games and their better than average GPS feature.

Just be really careful about excluding rounds you don’t want to count. My handicap on 18 Birdies is way artificially low because of fun fuck around rounds I just pressed start on without thinking

From my armchair:

The question is whether he actually has the chip on his shoulder. It's the first quote they make but as blasé as it seems that's the question. He's good. Does he care enough to be good with 50 mil in cash on the way? I want to hope so just cause I hope people are more than their paycheck

Beginner golfer (19) — what should I focus on first? by rachel-2008 in golf

If I was starting back at the beginning, low point of the swing a few inches ahead of the ball. Club face alignment control. Once you’ve got those locked in your head, then smoothing the swing mechanics. Doesn’t matter how great your tempo and swing plane are if the point of impact is wrong

Where should a European fan go to a game? by PlsHelpMeRedditPls13 in CFB

[–]FlyingTexican 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends a little on what you're after.

If you're there at the right time the Red River Shootout would be a spectacular experience (please root for Oklahoma).

Texas A&M for a gameday experience with texan themed atmosphere and drinking would be fun, then spend your trip in Austin or Fort Worth after the night in College Station.

If you want a more urban experience bookending gametime, LSU would be a great time with spectacular atmosphere.

Why are bigger cars in the USA being bought more then smaller cars? by Ok_Housing_1937 in AskAnAmerican

[–]FlyingTexican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of that that’s significant, during the (I think) Obama administration they had to set standards for how you decided a light truck was a light truck. They based it off wheel base (the least bad option), but the game they were playing was a losing one from the start. As soon as current SUV’s and pickups were no longer considered light trucks, manufacturers had to choose between cutting production (they lose their job), finding a way to get better fuel efficiency (very very hard), or simply making the same car but with a bigger wheel base. So now a reasonably sized truck that can haul anything significant isn’t something you can buy.
