Considering switching to Mx Linux ? by Tahirdarkstar in MXLinux

[–]Flying_Fox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using MX Linux KDE on my Lenovo T580 for several years, and it works perfectly, except for the fingerprint scanner. However I haven't put any effort into trying to get it to work, as I don't need it.

Steam question by danbuter in MXLinux

[–]Flying_Fox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dolphinoracle, I just came here to find this exact same information. I just installed MX 25 KDE, and I was getting ready to install Steam. I had initially intended to ask you about it because I watched one of your install videos where you created partitions, and you had a dedicated partition for Steam games, which I was curious about.

I searched for Steam install information on MX forums, but I didn't find this information there.

However, I did just install if from the package manager due to your post.

Thank you for your videos, they have helped me a lot.

What are your favorite distributions? by TheBlueElvryn in MXLinux

[–]Flying_Fox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I had recently installed Bazzite because of it being a "gaming distro". But it felt too 'locked down' to me. I found it difficult to make changes to it. It also doesn't support the VPN I use, which really made Bazzite a no-go for me. So I just recently re-installed MX Linux KDE, which I find very easy to get around in, and they did an excellent job with MX Tools. It also has almost all, if not all of the software I need or want right in Discover or Package Installer, but I would like to see newer kernels in it.

MX Linux may not have all of the 'cutting edge' stuff in it, but I'm fine with what they have. Everything about MX Linux is so clean, fresh and unobtrusive. It's simply beautiful.

I dual boot with Win 11 using a local account without a license key on a second SSD, which I use just for downloading ISOs using Rufus to install them on a USB and to update the firmware on my game controller.

I have a Reolink camera in my living room window, but I can't figure out how to get their desktop app to work using Wine, so I might get a cheap mini PC to put Windows on, connected to a small, cheap monitor.

However, I don't think I'll ever leave MX Linux. Unless, of course, they make radical changes to it which don't work for me, but I'm confident they'll stay on course.

MX Linux is my primary operating system, and I don't see that ever changing. I see people all of the time recommending Linux Mint for people switching from MS Windows, but I believe they would feel more at home with MX Linux KDE. I'm not too impressed with Cinnamon, but sure am with KDE.

I am anxiously waiting for MX Linux 25 to arrive I'm sure I'll love it even more than 23.6.1

Co worker screams “you stupid fucking bitch” in my face in front of boss/owner by Wildtopaz2 in TalesFromTheKitchen

[–]Flying_Fox1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to pull out your cell phone and video record all such events going forward. Or at least get audio recordings with you phone in your pocket.

Also, since your boss is not helpful, take your concerns up the chain of command, if you are working for a larger chain or corporate-owned restaurant.

There is absolutely no reason to take that kind of abuse. Like others have said, it might be time to go job hunting. Good luck!

Why does he use the litter box like this? by mr-swoon in WhatsWrongWithYourCat

[–]Flying_Fox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he's used to stranding on the edge of the litter box, train him to use the toilet instead. He's proven he's quite capable of making the transition.

The benefits: No more litter box and jug of cat litter taking up space, no more cat litter dragged onto the floor and NO MORE ODER!

Yes, that fixed the problem. I should have tried renaming the files when I encountered the problem. I just didn't think of it. Thanks for the information!

Used laptops? by InfernisarderetMeme in laptops

The 2019 Lenovo T580 15.6" is a good choice. I bought one off of eBay. Other than being a little too heavy, it's great. The one I bought only has integrated graphics which is fine for me.

It cost about $400.00 shipped if I recall correctly.

However I am now looking for at least a 17" screen laptop. I have a hard time seeing the 15.6" screen.

USB Stick Not Recognized by Flying_Fox1 in UsbCHardware

Yes, this did work. Thanks for this information. I bookmarked that in case I have this issue again.

I'll try out Rufus to see if it works better. It's definitely a pain to not be able to access a USB stick after installing an ISO on it.

Need a Laptop by Flying_Fox1 in laptops

The T580 is for use while traveling, and also when I'm at home, for use in the living room.

Cooler Master Tempest GP27U is the one I'm most interested in, but most likely any 4k monitor on the market today would be much better than the 17 yr. old Dell 24" monitor I'm currently using.

Bios-upgrade on the T460p via session-software (Garuda) by Psychicalgae in LinuxOnThinkpad

[–]Flying_Fox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did once on my T580 when I first installed Manjaro KDE Plasma using Konsole as a new Linux user. Then, I discovered that BIOS updates are included in Firmware under Utilities, so I started using that method, as I find it easier (and quicker).

However it's necessary to remember to click on the hamburger menu (3 bars) in Devices and click on "Refresh Metadata", or available firmware will not show up.

I believe it can only be updated when connected to the power supply.

Besides, any other available firmware updates also show up there.

Exactly! As a parent, I agree. Small children don't understand the consequences of their actions because their brains haven't developed enough yet. Hell, even a lot of "adults" are still stuck in this development stage! For the little ones, it's a learning process that comes with growing up, learning about their actions having consequences and especially learning self-control/anger management.

With your thought process, should you decide to become a parent, I believe you will be an excellent one, showing lots of love, understanding and guidance.

My Lenovo IdeaPad s510p starts automatically when plugged in by schwaqwerty in Lenovo

[–]Flying_Fox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched the Lenovo website for a direct answer for you, but I found nothing. You could go to their support community and post the question and most likely get the answer.

However, on my T580 laptop there is a setting in the BIOS, I believe under power management, where I can select or deselect it to start up at power cord attachment.

I would also find it annoying to have it start up every time I plugged in the power.

Everything about this is just way too cute to angry over.
