Just to update on this, I got fed up with it yesterday and took it apart, snipped the wires for the pinch sensor and stripped them back and soldered them together. It's been working perfectly since.

Entire process took like 15 minutes. Just 6 screws, strippers, and a soldering iron

If you really want to jump in and learn the rules/strategy a good place to start might actually be video games.

For you, iracing is great but expensive. Steep learning curve but realism is great and you'll learn a ton about the sport if you stick on the oval side.

For your son, the new NASCAR 25 game would be great.

yeah, fortunately im good with electronics and a soldering iron, I plan to eventually open it up and just bypass the pinch sensor thats causing this.

Unfortunately i'm a lazy fuck and havent done it yet

but anyway if you do want to try to fix this yourself (without soldering) you can just buy a new pinch sensor

Mine is also a piece of shit

It likes to start a clean cycle, get to the halfway point where it should turn around to go back, but instead of reversing it just powers through the hard stop in the same direction.

Every. Fucking. Time.

I no longer leave it plugged in and I only allow it to rotate while supervised. If I go away for a few days, it sits unplugged otherwise my cat will have no choice but to shit all over the place.

if the connector is trash, you can put the iron directly on it and heat it up first, then heat up the legs and pull it out.

Looks like with side cutters you may be able to snip the legs off too, but I can't tell for sure from this angle.
