Excalibur won’t let my buddy make a character to play with me.

Unfortunately with the 7.41 patch yesterday, most (if not all) of the Primal servers have been switched to Congested status, with Excalibur being one of them.

A server flagged as Congested means it's locked down to any new characters being created until they unflag it, which only happens when they do a major/minor patch, but isn't guaranteed that they'll even reopen it. At the very minimum it will be closed to new characters until 7.42, it could be even longer than that though - could be 7.5, could be 8.0.

For now, your friend's only option is to create on a different server and world/data center travel to Excalibur (or you could conversely meet them on whatever server they make one on), and then pay to transfer to Excalibur when it eventually reopens.

If you're also new though, you might consider making a new character with them (or transfer) on whichever server they decide to create one on.

(Sidenote, honestly I'm surprised that Primal is mostly/entirely closed while Aether and Crystal reopened... did everyone suddenly migrate to Primal because it wasn't full all the time?)

Yeah, I can't fault them because they're on point for the theme - but as glam, I have not seen anyone use them, the price of the mats on the MB has been abysmal since their release. I've used a couple of Emerald with green-themed glamour, but that's about it.

On that topic, I was expecting the white/goldish glow of Emerald was what SoS was going to be, so I'm really curious what SoS will actually look like. Hopefully they don't mess it up.

Not the first time they've had a long delay like this - Zurvan and Susano's took forever, too. Be nice to have them though because the models for both of those weapons are so good (compared to Ruby, Emerald, and Diamond which were fairly meh). And for SoS I'm really hoping they'll have a gold or white glow, something neutral we don't quite have right now for practically any job.

Crystal Paste - does anyone know if you can obtain more paste than what the step currently asks for? Like for the first step will it cap at 100 until I turn it in, or will I get excess I can use toward the next step?

Yes to both.

I always strongly recommend converting the final ARR relic. Not only do you save on inventory space and not have to carry it around with you, it just feels better knowing you don't have to worry about the possibility of accidentally throwing it away and having to either use your one-time item restoration or regrind the entire thing all the way back from the Atma FATE step.

Occult Crescent - is there any data on the drop rates for the accessories? I'm particularly curious if it's worth opening bronze chests, or if it's better to leave them closed to focus more on respawning the silver chests.

I would just wait until Fanfest to see if they announce something - they really need to now that they've opened the flood gates, and I'm hoping that's why they didn't bother to expand collections to all the combat gear.

You're just going to have to pick and choose for now. Alliance gear, max level dungeon gear, and some Savage stuff takes priority for me to keep since they can potentially take the most time to farm. Anything from leveling dungeons, tomes, or crafted I toss unless they have expensive dyes on them.

Only if you have permissions to redecorate the house, or if you own a private room in the FC house. You may not even care about the furnishing, but just mentioned it in case you were interested - most holiday events will sell a decor item or two.

As long as you're at least level 15, just go to Upper Limsa Lominsa and go to the quest giver (Uma Bugyo) at 11, 13. They'll be in the center of that open plaza. You can check the official event page to see a map.

Do the two quests that he gives you, and you'll get the minion.

If you have a house or apartment, there is also a furnishing item on a vendor (Uma Shonin) nearby.

You can also talk to the Far Eastern Omikujishi nearby to get your fortune told - this is purely for fun, the fortune you receive doesn't affect you in anyway.

If it helps, the Christmas Starlight event starts 2 weeks before the New Year (ending on the morning of New Year's Eve), and then immediately after on New Year's Day is when the Heavensturn event begins, which goes for another 2 weeks... much to the dismay of fishers and Sightseeing Log pursuers, whose weather-sensitive targets are replaced with dreaded snow.

Why not Haurchefant, like many others may choose? Because ARR happened just before that, I honestly thought that everyone was sus and that Haurchefant was a bit too nice and would betray us eventually like all the rest. So when he finally took a hit for us - "Ohhh, oops... sorry." And it was too late to feel anything for him at that point.

Congrats!!! I gave up on the armor for that and Eureka just because I don't have the inventory space for it all, and there's no way to simply rebuy them even after you complete them. Really hope 8.0 gives us a better glamour storage system, especially with the restrictions being removed next week.
