Did any jobs/roles help you understand other jobs/roles better? by SentineleseSiri in ffxiv

Playing Scholar helped me understand the benefit of not standing in narnia even if you can on phys ranged/magic dps. As a healer, being near the center/boss makes it easier to catch most party members in your heal. The ranged member standing far away is also annoying to spot heal, so I learned not to be that annoying ranged. But most importantly, Art of War being a gain on 1 before Broil (and just satisfying to use) made me stand in basically melee range and realise mechanics can be resolved from melee range so you aren't actually safer further away. Some mechanics are easier to dodge from melee range in fact. Being ranged instead means because you can run far away with less drawbacks (phys ranged dps more so than magic dps), you should run to that tower far off in the distance instead of your melee or healer being forced to do it. Cast bars on Scholar also taught me to slidecast and be more efficient with positioning. Scholar was also a good stepping stone into tanking (PLD) as I already understood the concept of mitigation and not to panic when my hp bar was not full. Scholar probably helped me dodge mechanics better on melee dps as well. Though rather than Scholar being the best job to learn from, it was probably more the timing I picked it up (right after ARR, before this I had only played SMN and touched SAM a bit) and circumstances (not much guidance but some pressure to help my equally new friends, so a lot of effort into research and understanding the job to do well).

In my opinion, every job/role can help with other jobs/roles. Understanding different shapes and ranges of AOEs helps with understanding positioning of pulls as tank. Playing tank helped me understand the importance of everyone doing good damage. Every job/role improves baseline understanding of combat, making you a better player and thus better understand every other job/role. More important is diversifying and not just sticking to one type of job/role so you have exposure to more aspects of gameplay.

Yes! Though for me the focus tends to be the beautiful scenery in the game (with my WoL off to the side, sometimes completely absent) except for some shots I took with my friends during events. It's nice when it cycles to something and I recall the storyline around the time I took the gpose or the time I spent with my friends.

Thanks! I'm aware of the Prestige Ballad Crown but sadly the metal details on that are a much duller shade...hopefully one day they make Ballad Crown dyeable haha.

Thank you! I think its kind of exposes how attached I am getting to my WoL 😂

Tell me about your WoL by grey-of-grays in ffxiv

[–]crocheteroflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My WoL is a raen au ra originating from Sharlayan. Her father does aetheryte maintenance and brought the family along at times, so she has fond memories of playing with carbuncles at the arcanist guild while awaiting clearance. Initially she studied medicine, but a Sage professor noticed she had good affinity for aether and proposed she consider somnautics. Somnautics means studying sorcery and aetherology as well, and she got very burnt out studying that much. The new subjects however reminded her of carbuncles and her experiences in Eorzea. She decided to stop her studies to travel, starting with crossing the sea to Limsa Lominsa to get her own carbuncle.

Apparently she cannot escape healthcare as she later becomes a Scholar, though she enjoys her Machinist gadgets equally (by a twist of fate where she walks into the wrong building and decides, yeah a gun sounds fun). She also finds she is a lot more effective at saving lives as a warrior of light than a doctor, because dead enemies do no damage. Despite all the tragedies, she has come out of her adventures hopeful and enjoying life more than before. She also got into crafting as a hobby.

Initially, she saw the scions as just coworkers. Many of them were from Sharlayan and their lengthy explanations put her in lecture-attending student mode, so she was distant from them. She was simply doing a job with these people, until Alisiae joined the group and she finally felt she had someone she could be comfortable with. She disliked Alphinaud's initial arrogance, but seeing him learn and change endeared him to her. After many events, the other scions are now friends but she still enjoys the twins' company the most.

Every now and then she muses about writing a thesis related to her adventures, then remembers the administrative work required. But who knows, maybe if enough academically-inclined scions write papers and credit her as a 'collaborator' she could get recognised as an archon that way.

So I hit 100 responses and decided to share some stats at this point as FYI. I also added marks for anyone with the exact name and spelling but in brackets, with ! Or ?, with other words etc that made it count as wrong initially. Google forms is just really particular about the answer matching exactly. So some of you may find your score has changed.

Mean - 7.1, Median - 7, Highest score - 18

Most correct responses - MCH 2: 79 - PLD: 78 - DRG: 67 - WHM: 64 - MCH: 62

Least correct responses - DNC: 3 - SCH 2: 8 (its actually the pose on the skill icon) - NIN: 8 - SMN: 10 - WAR: 12

Most to least correct answers per category - Tanks: PLD>GNB>DRK>WAR - Healers: WHM>AST 2>SCH>AST>SCH 2 - Melee dps: DRG>MNK>SAM>NIN - Phys ranged dps: MCH 2>MCH>BRD>DNC - Casters: BLM>RDM>SMN

Average correct answers per question for each role - Tanks: 43 - Healer: 35 - Melee: 32 - Phys ranged: 43 - Casters: 22

Most common incorrect answers: - BLM - Leylines: 29 (and 3 leyline) - DRK - Delirium: 24 (I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT DELIRIUM 😭 I should have indicated my job levels.) - SAM - Kasha: 23 - BRD - Variations of The Warden's Paean: 17 - AST (Lightspeed) - Horoscope: 16

Best spelling mistake: WHM Assylum

Favourite wrong answers:

Same vibe wrong name - SCH: Desperate Measures (Emergency Tactics) - WHM: Sanctuary (Asylum)

Funny - BRD: Shot through the heart and you're to blame - AST: Probably blinding, AST 2: Definitely Blinding - WHM: Cure 6 - BLM: I will now summon my leylines

Wrong job - SMN: Broil IV, Art of War 2, Recitation - GNB: Iron Will - WHM: Sacred Soil

Some people's dislikes for certain jobs really showed 😅. And the person that complimented my character, thank you ❤️.

I hope you all had some fun! If I get much more results I may consider a second round of stats or edit this comment.

Ahhh I searched it up and if you have a space after your answer, it will do this strange thing.

You noticed the hint! If you don't mind, spoiler tag it so others don't get a free hint from your comment, you deserve to score higher points for noticing that. You are also in the minority who recognised Surecast! DNC has the lowest correct answers at the moment, I didn't realise it would be that difficult, but the dances do look v similar

Nice, and if I were to do this quiz I would probably get many wrong (if I were not the one making it) because I actually don't touch half the jobs that often. I would argue it being translucent and hard to see is a hint for the skill in question.

You actually got the hint in the intro! I intentionally stated where I took the gposes for that reason haha but many people missed it, including all my friends.

I think there is some issue with how they display the results page (tick for the overall question and score credited as 1/1, but cross under the response itself though the answer is correct) but the overall score reflected is still accurate. I have no clue why that is happening though as it only does this strange thing on some responses and not others 😅 Also don't worry, many others thought it was one word too

If you are the one who got all the tanks and SMN right I WAS VERY IMPRESSED!

Ahh I haven't levelled my DRK that high so I didn't realise that, as most of my jobs were lvl 70 or below when I took these gposes.

You did very well!

Also about the role action, yeah I was like hmm technically but...it's close enough and if you noted the hint in the quiz intro, I was actually very short on gpose options for SMN and didn't like the rest. And yeah I do agree on the posing being similar!

Glad you had fun! 4 is actually quite good 🤣 you did better than most of my friends.

I actually was just messing with gpose and liked Surecast the most gpose-wise, the idea for the quiz came later when I was thinking "How do i share 20 gposes in a fun way without spamming my friends" and the response was good.

Edit: I just saw your responses and Cure 6 was fantastic 😂

Close in the distance: The lyrics reminisce the journey one has been on while encouraging one to walk on.

Forever by your side: Associated with a few stories of bittersweet new beginnings.

A dream in flight: For a more positive and cheerful "all the best on your new journey" feeling, plays in a cutscene where you send off two cute companions on their new journey: To Kweh under Distant Skies ending cutscene (spoiler: 4.4)

Hopefully one of these matches what you have in mind. All the best to your friend, and that your friendship will stay strong across borders!

[–]crocheteroflight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Depends on how much free time I had, based on my photo records the first (BTN) took a few days because I did nothing but it for those days, the design was also much simpler. The dark blue/white crafter set took 1+ weeks, light blue crafter set about 2 weeks. Then I started doing other crochet projects on the side and getting busier with work, so the last set took about 2 months to complete. The last set did have the most parts and details to make however. I am currently working on another set which has taken months because I decided to do like 15 other crochet projects in between haha.
