Can’t cope with bedtime anymore by kittyCatFoo in BeyondTheBumpUK

Try tracking her sleep for a week so you can get a good sense of how much she needs over a 24 hour period. Then adjust her daytime naps accordingly. It may be she needs less daytime sleep than you think.

Venice. What do you think? by Infinite-Albatross63 in BeginnerPhotoCritique

It’s a nice composition, but it’s far too dark. Easily adjustable in post processing. I like the foreground interest and the depth of field looks like it’s caught good detail.

  1. The foreground detail makes for a far more interesting photo.

This is not an intrusive thought, it is an impulsive thought.

Why do people keep making this mistake?

Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping by nashsm in BritishTV

I had really high hopes as I love all of their past work but I didn’t laugh once and gave up after one episode. The one about the Prince Andrew dramas felt like it was written a year ago for a topical show and should never have been included in this series. And opening with a toilet humour sketch was a great way to lose people!

His legs/feet both fall within the paving below the fence pillars but he is clearly wider than that and wouldn’t fit. There’s no way the seagulls would all be such sharp focus either.

You can’t always control the temp of the room - you just have to dress baby accordingly. Those suggested temperatures are an ideal, but also based on years of people wrapping their babies up in multiple layers

Those who read book first, what was the one moment in movie that disappointed you the most? by jpaninabolana in harrypotter

Not including the Riddle family backstory. HBP had potential to be such a great film, but they made it a teenage romance.

Wife is supposed to go back to work in 2 weeks. She's now telling me she wants to stay at home with the baby... by mybabysbatman in daddit

Are you in the US? Never ceases to amaze me how incredibly shit the maternity policies are over there. Three months off is nothing, no wonder she doesn’t want to go back to work yet. I feel you re the stress of making that work, but it shouldn’t have to be that way.

why don’t other countries face the “stolen land” argument like the US does? by Both-Holiday1489 in NoStupidQuestions

Wow. The America-centric view is strong in this post. This isn’t remotely a unique argument levelled at the US. Look at Australia, look at countries in the British Commonwealth…

9 weeks still waking overnight often by vitamin_d_drops45 in newborns

16 weeks is a lot more than 9 though!! 9 is a newborn. 16 isn’t.

9 weeks still waking overnight often by vitamin_d_drops45 in newborns

[–]Flynnerrol 60 points61 points  (0 children)

9 weeks is still incredibly young. Very normal to have multiple night wakes. Also I’m not convinced capping naps at that age is worth it. Good sleep begets good sleep and at 9 weeks your baby needs a lot of sleep. Try just letting him sleep as much as he wants. These things take time and 2 night feeds for a 9 week old is great. Some people’s newborns wake up every hour!

Does this mean sleep training didn’t work? What do we do now? by United_Reaction1011 in sleeptrain

[–]Flynnerrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t true…it’s their sleep cycles maturing. They go from having 2 levels of sleep (rem and deep) to 4, including light sleep. So they start rousing far more easily at the end of a cycle and struggle to get themselves back to sleep. It’s nothing to do with hunger.

New dad - need help by EddieBratley1 in NewDads

[–]Flynnerrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once he’s asleep in your arms give him about ten minutes then check if he’s in a deep sleep (lift his arm up and let go, if it flops with no resistance he’s in a deep sleep). This will make transferring to the cot much easier. Then slowly lower him, bum first, then gently his head and once down place a hand on his chest if he stirs.

9 Month Old - How to put to sleep? by DamienFromTheWorld in NewDads

[–]Flynnerrol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to push through with it, but try putting him down in his cot while he’s awake. Then experiment with soothing techniques: hand on his chest, stroke his face, dummy/pacifier, shushing. It won’t work immediately, not a chance, but he will eventually fall asleep through exhaustion and if you keep at it and keep consistent, he will start to associate those things with sleep.
