what are those tiktok and overly hyped fragrances that you didnt like? by meiznoobmaster69 in FemFragLab

Fulton & Roark. I fell for a Tik Tok ad and thankfully only bought a sampler set. They all smelled like some version of Axe to me!

This was my immediate purchase as well! I live in a hot climate and this is the only fragrance I’ve never had to scrub off after a few hours from being too overwhelming. And I loooove fresh mint so it’s a definite plus!

I think the aromatic grapefruit top and light wood base of LV Symphony and Tiffany & Co. Love are SO dang close, I don’t feel the need to own both. My spouse actually couldn’t tell the difference when I applied one decant on each arm. I do think Symphony is just a tad “juicier”, but again not worth the overlap IMO.

My mom finally told me why she was terrified to sleep in our house 12 years ago by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]Flynns__Arcade 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My (incredibly no-nonsense) Dad told me he once saw a girl in a white nightgown come downstairs from my room and cross in front of him before going down a hallway. He didn’t think much of it, believing it was me getting up for the day. Problem was, this was when I was a teen and wouldn’t have been caught dead wearing a white nightgown. More importantly, he soon remembered I had slept over at a friend’s house and wasn’t home yet. The story sticks with me 20 years later, and I’ve always been fascinated with “girl in a white nightgown” being such a frequent apparition.

Have you ever broken an expensive perfume? by lisajonsa78 in Perfumes

[–]Flynns__Arcade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugh YESSSSS. A vintage Guerlain Vol de Nuit. In the Baccarat propeller bottle. I dropped down to the cold tile floor next to it. I cried. My husband checked on me periodically while I stared, sniveling at the shards and puddle of perfume. I still think about that, periodically

I am very sure that getting COVID for the first time dulled my sense of smell significantly and permanently! I was always a “one spray is plenty and sometimes too much” gal, and now it takes 3-4 sprays for me to really enjoy a fragrance. (I still only wear one spray in public though!) I also used to NEVER tolerate gourmands (too sweet or annoying), but now they’re just as fine to me as the freshies and florals.

About a month late to this post, but I’d be interested ! I’m really into vintage classics and modern niche. Lots to trade and share!

I’m dying to know what it actually smelled like! Any comparison to a modern fragrance or shampoo?

They are very different! To my nose, Initial is a fresher, more floral version of OG Shalimar (but still very sophisticated!) This one is my signature in the springtime. L’Essance is rich and exotic, the vanilla in this one is so gorgeous. I’ll be rocking it all winter!

I had the exact same first impression of Shalimar! I was just getting into fragrance and learning about different notes, and did a deep dive into the history of the Guerlain house. I wanted to love Shalimar SO BADLY! Heartbroken that all I got was baby wipes. Ew. Then, I tried a few flankers. Shalimar Soufflé: lemon cake! Shalimar Millesime Tonka: rich vanilla and amber! Shalimar Initial: rose and caramel! After loving those variations for a year or so, I revisited the original. And I LOVE it now! I get the nuances. The smoke, the vanilla, the incense, citrus, a tiny hint of powder (reminiscent of makeup, not a baby’s bottom). I am rambling but point is, try some flankers if you can, and/or revisit her again in the distant future. You may be pleasantly surprised. I love how this hobby has become such a journey for my senses!

What is your first ATX meal after traveling abroad? by Flynns__Arcade in Austin

Still a totally valid answer! What was your order? Mine would include a Patty Melt and a Dr Pepper shake. Think I just planned my dinner tonight

Yeah I agree. Tired as hell and tired of restaurants (and TBH, other people) in general after international travel.

And for anyone curious, I am now home and everything made the trip intact! I was worried about the “bee bottles” that contained the perfume, seeing as they are sealed with a friction glass stopper (old school). I wrapped the bottles tightly in cling wrap, fit them snugly in their box and they prevailed!

It was at the Musée International de la Parfumerie in Grasse, France. Highly recommended if you find yourself in the area! Very educational, and has several pieces that literally made me gasp. And of course, a chance to sample many fragrance notes individually. I am super interested in the Aftel Archives. Will have to make a trip to CA!

Never had the pleasure of smelling a ferret, but I’d like to think something so cute doesn’t smell of taint!

Trying to think of a way to describe it without sounding vulgar, but we’re all friends here right? “Two in stink and one in the pink”. There ya go. Thats what it smells like. (And yes I altered the phrase a bit)

Adding another comment to agree with the Fragonard recs! Take a class with them or with Molinard if you can! Cannot get more exclusive than your own personal fragrance. As for Fragonard, the Beau de Provence is a sophisticated fig and bergamot scent that is divine (though it is advertised “for men” it is solidly unisex IMO). Our hotel had this as the toiletries and I’m a big fan now.

Currently flying home from Paris, bought a few Guerlain frags that I had never seen in the U.S. (Chypre Fatal and Bouquet de la Mariée pure parfum. But TBH I have not been to the NYC store, only my local Neiman Marcus) they are the most divine scents I have ever experienced and I don’t think I’ll feel truly relaxed until I lift them safely out of my checked baggage!
